Is this possible? Just a theory :)

That's a good idea, and you've probably hit on the reason. It should
have occurred to me. Anyway there are currently some problems with
multi-user support on slimscrobbler. Single user mode works correctly
for me.

I don't use multi-user mode so there could easily be some interaction
here, but Ian Parkinson definitely reported a breakage. There are 2
issues to fix for me. Firstly the config options need to be fixed so
you can get at the parameters. Then I need to start investigating the
multi-user problem.

So,

1) are you using slimscrobbler in multi-user mode (or were you with a
previous config?).

2) can you try in single user mode?

The --d_plugins log definitely reports bad logins for SlimScrobbler
(messages begin in a section starting Creating new Session for
$userID).

In lastFM there are messages that start with Connecting to:
$lastfm_url

Both should report a failure to connect/login in subsequent messages.
LastFM does not appear to report successful connection.

RE: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: LastFM+Audioscrobbler on Ubuntu

2006-03-09 Thread Craig, James (IT)
The LastFM plugin has an option to use the SlimScrobbler login.
If both plugins are installed and enabled this should be on by default,
but you might want to check.
It can store its own login, but if this is not set and you're not using
the SlimScrobbler plugin you will see an error indicating this.

LastFM also doesn't log in unless you're using it, and SlimScrobbler
doesn't (shouldn't) submit music played by the LastFM plugin as that is
logged at their end.

However there is some experimental code logging information from online
radio stations that might mean we have a condition where both LastFM and
SlimScrobbler are logging. However I wouldn't expect that to be the
cause of the problem here.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: LastFM+Audioscrobbler on Ubuntu

2006-03-09 Thread fairyliquidizer

I have been using it in single user mode, however when trying to fix the
initial problems (caused by not finding the libraries (looking in the
wrong place for them, see above)) I tried LastFM standalone and used
the LastFM password option before installing both plugins I
strongly suspect that even though I have changed the settings to use
Slimscrobbler login subsequent installs are picking up on the LastFM
password entered into the web interface for the Last FM plugin.

Is there a way to ensure that all references to login and password are
deleted for LastFM so that I can eliminate this possibility? I think
completely zapping these settings may allow Slimscrobbler to sign in
properly and LastFM to then use that login.

Kanoot,
your log shows that Mplayer starts up and then is waiting for data -
nothing is getting through the Mplayer.

I've had PMs with a user who a similar problem using the easily
available OSX precompiled Mplayer which is quite old (mid 2005). He
replaced the mplayer with a version built by berryk with CVS 051227
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=74125postcount=125 ) and
the problem went away. The berryk link seems to be broken but I was
emailed a copy of the mplayer - I have made it available below. It is
supposed to be a uncompressed mplayer executable for OSX - I don't have
a OSX so I can't vouch for it.

http://homepage.eircom.net/~altondsl/slim/mplayerOSX.bin

Download it, save your current version, rename it to mplayer to install
this version and try standalone Terminal test version first.

If it is not executable or corrupted - I'll ask for another copy.

Kanoot Toobiloo,
It is possible the OSX mplayer is quieter than windows so can you
change -really-quiet to -v in the RTSP / mplayer.sh lines in
slimserver-convert.conf file when doing the log.

This will make mplayer give more info in case it is the source of the
problem.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SlimScrobbler updated

2006-03-09 Thread mwphoto

Hi All,

I've just checked in a significant number of updates to SlimScrobbler
all related to the use of multiple LastFM accounts. This is all
relevant for 6.5b1. Significantly I now do not distinguish multiuser
and single user, there is simple a list of accounts - if you only
configure 1 account then you're single user :)

You can get the package from CVS http://slimscrobbler.sourceforge.net
or as a zip bundle from
http://www.bpscgi.co.uk/SlimScrobbler/SlimScrobbler.zip

Here's some notes from the ReadMe

This version changes the slimscrobbler account prefs significantly, to
allow
users to go back to previous versions we do not delete old preference
settings.
The old preferences that are not needed with this release are:

plugin_scrobbler_default_userid:
plugin_scrobbler_multiuser:
plugin_scrobbler_x_0pw:
plugin_scrobbler_x_0userid:
plugin_scrobbler_password:
plugin_scrobbler_user:
plugin_scrobbler_useridlist:

YOU WILL NEED TO REENTER LASTFM USER ACCOUNT AND PASSWORD SETTINGS

How to install
==
NB Installation instructions have changed! This is not the same as the
V0.34
release that was compatible with 6.2.x versions of slimserver!

- Place the entire SlimScrobbler directory tree into the Plugins
directory.

- The SlimScrobbler directory should contain Plugin.pm and
SlimScrobbleSupport
subdirectory along with some text files (readme etc)

- Restart SlimServer.

- Set your Last.FM username and password. Point your browser at the
SlimServer's web interface, and navigate through Server Settings -
Plugins. You can have multiple LastFM accounts configured. Enter
your
accounts in the plugins setup section of the webpage. Accounts should
be
entered as a single string of 'accountname:password'. The first
account
on the list is used as a default in a number of situations where
account changes
render pre-existing accounts invalid.

NB as you will be aware this exposes your LastFM password - it was
always in the
slimserver.pref file before so it's not a great additional risk, but
I hope
to add a way of hiding this later.

If you have multiple SlimDevices units or streaming clients, you can
use
a different Last.FM account with each one. On each player, use the
remote
to navigate through Plugins - Audioscrobbler Submitter - Select
Audioscrobbler Account and choose the account to use for that
player.

As ever keep reporting bugs issues etc, however as a reference point I
can say it is working with:

6.5b1 on WinXP and lastFM (playing lastFM streams as well as
submitting). Using 2 user accounts, but all submissions on the primary
account.

See my sig for what I've listened to :)

Malcolm,

Thanks for all of your recent contributions to the SlimScrobbler and
LastFM plugins. They're really improved in functionality and features
since you've started taking it on.

I've just updated my version from CVS and I'm testing it from work on
SoftSqueeze. It's playing fine, but I'm not getting any track info,
and I'm not able to use Love/Skip/Ban, presumably because of that.
It's been that way for nearly a week, I think.

I seem to recall James Craig saying something about this problem and
checking something into CVS several days ago, but I don't see any
change in this newest version. Let me know if there is any
information I can provide to help debug it.

Thanks again,

James the version 1.8.1 on your website is dated 3 March, and this
corresponds to the version 1.9 on CVS I have from CVS. This is the

However the web interface at sourceforge seems to be lagging and only

So it looks like you committed it and the changes are present, but (for

2006-03-09 Thread tomlillie

Thanks everyone,

If I understand correctly, then I can use softsqueeze (which does
indeed work with alienBBC) and/or hardwiring the squeezebox as a
diagnostic to see if this is a network problem or a problem with
mplayer cache. I'll try the mplayer diagnostic as suggested by Neil as
well.

The stream does play properly again if restarted

Obviously if it's a network problem, that can be sorted by moving the
player / router. What do I do if it's an mplayer cache problem?

Thanks everyone!

Malcolm,

The version I checked out of CVS also seems to be the 1.8 version. I
used the anonymous CVS checkout information as described at
http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=105780

Namely, I used cvs -z3
-d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/slimscrobbler co -P
SlimScrobbler to check out the file the first time and then I use
cvs update to get my updates. However, looking at the file dates I
have, Plugin.pm in the LastFM directory is dated 2006-02-26.

So it seems it's not just the web interface that's out of date.
Perhaps newer versions need to be made so that they're available
anonymously? I don't know how CVS works.

So, I decided to ignore that and install the versions from the zip
file linked from the first email in this thread. However, neither
plugin shows up in the server interface when I do that. I'm on the
absolute latest svn version, so I dunno if that's too new for you. My
--d_plugins output is pasted below (sorry about line breaks, but it's
from a Windows ssh client):

For this sort of symptom the network problem is probably between the
mplayer app and the BBC server and not the wireless between thr
slimserver and the SB. This sounds like it since restarted the stream
maskes it work OK. Any idea what is the utilisation of the links
between slimserver and internet. Are there bursts of very intensive
traffic ?

I think Slimserver does some background processing (disk scan I think)
every 30 mins - could this be affecting mplayer ? What are the specs of
the system OS, CPU, Ram ?

If it is a network problem, the mplayer cache can be increased but it
only delays the inevitable.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC - Mac OS X and no sound

2006-03-09 Thread kanoot

OK, turned off --really-quiet and turned on -v (verbose in mplayer?)

It still looks like it should be playing (and I can still play real
audio files from command line with mplayer). Looking over the logs the
only error that looks like anything is that it says it can't open the
cook codec (which is installed).

Still - it makes no sense to me.

Anyone see anything in the new log?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC - Mac OS X and no sound

2006-03-09 Thread bpa

Kanoot,

Mplayer looks for a lots of different codecs but it found the right one
(racookmac I think). The chunks labels are shown such as ATDA which is
in fact DATA (PPC has a different byte order to Intel) - this means
ocntact is made with BBC by Mplayer and it is receiving the stream. The
cache was filled - so it looks like the problem is the data from Mplayer
is not being read so either /dev/fd/3 or Flac could be the problem.

Can you remove the --totally-silent from the RTSP Flac lines and see
if it gets more info ?

thanks done that. On reinstall I am still getting the path problem...

and Slimscrobbler doesn't load. I can work around this by linking.
The directory that it needs to find is:

/usr/share/slimserver/Plugins/SlimScrobbler/SlimScrobbleSupport/

note that I will symbolically link the actual directory from in here
/usr/sbin/Plugins/SlimScrobbler/SlimScrobbleSupport/

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC goes 'underwater' after 30mins

2006-03-09 Thread bpa

Neil's test should be run because if standalone mplayer has problems
after 30 mins then it rules out a slimserver problem.

Just for clarity - the network problem to which I was referring is the
link between mplayer and BBC server so if it is that sort of network
problem, hardwiring the SB to router will not solve it.

If it is a network problem increasing the mplayer cache can alleviate
it somewhat but for live streams the stuttering outcome will be the
same - eventually.

That test was inconclusive - Flac doesn't seem to produce any output -
the same on my SuSE systems. I'm at a loss in devising a test to move
this along.

A few posts back (#10 I think) I suggested trying a later build of
mplayer. Did you try this version out ?

2006-03-09 Thread mwphoto

Hi,

Firstly I think you've done the right thing with the symbolic linking
and that is the correct way to install on your configuration. I'll
update installation notes when we finally get to the bottom of it.

As regards the second issue I wonder if we have CRLF issues between
DOS/Unix here. Perl is generally unfussy but I could imagine how it
would interfere with the string parsing and cause what you're seeing.

I know that the code works for me on windows so I expect all the files
to have CRLF line termination. Do you have a way of checking that? (eg
open in plain vi and see if every line has a ^M at the end)

If that's the cause then we can work to a fix.

Malcolm

A few posts back (#10 I think) I suggested trying a later build of
mplayer. Did you try this version out ?

A later build? I thought I had the latest but with their wacky
versioning scheme its really hard to tell.

I also read something from a FreeBSD mailing list about a way to ensure
/dev/fd/3 get mounted as it was a source of trouble as well. I'll try
this out tonight and see what happens.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: LastFM+Audioscrobbler on Ubuntu

2006-03-09 Thread mwphoto

Yes, but I'm not a vi guru I know some later versions compensate for the
differences.

Here's something you can check with but it involves some hacking.

In Slim/Utils/Strings.pm

around line 215 you'll find the line that reports the parse error. Can
you change it to

} else {
my $lastChar = unpack(C,
substr($line,length($line)-1,1));
msg(Parse error on line $ln: $line $lastChar\n);
}

This will show the last character on the line as an ascii code so we
can be sure.

According to your log the build you are using is MPlayer
dev-CVS-041116 which is 16-Nov-2004

I think the latest build on sourceforge is mid 2005. The build I
referred to will fix the Live BBC garbled audio bug was created using
CVS 051227 which is 27-Dec-2005.

2006-03-09 22:21:31.8296 Parse error on line 2: PLUGIN_SCROBBLER^M

highly indicative of a download problem. instead of clicking and
saving the resuling page, right click and choose save as. This
preserves the important unix-style line endings required for parsing
the strings.

Of course, also possible that the original file got posted with
win/dos type line endings and needs to be converted and reposted.

that should have kept it intact. I can't say that I've ever seen line
endings get affected within a zip file. Interesting that it might be
the download. I'd expect jsut about everyone would have a problem
using it in that case. Those ^M's shouldn't be there.

If you can convert the line endings yourself, it should fix things.

wherever those strings are written is where you need to look. I can't
recall offhand if Plugin.pm is the only module for the plugin or not.
(x)emacs usually shows ^M if they are there. vi usually makes me go

The answer is, if it works, it's right.

I think it's
artist/.../similarartists (for a single artist)
or
