Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] compile perl in eclipse

2007-10-17 Thread pludder

Hi, I use Activestate Komodo for perl programming/debugging at work, its
commercial unfortunately, but I think they make a free editor version
nowadays, but I don't think the free version has a debugger :( Could
be perhaps be an option for an editor at least.

perl -d works pretty well if you have an editor window with the code
open at the same time.
(at least for my scripts not shure if plugin dev. adds any problems)

Check my sig :)

I hold play down and do not get that plugin appearing :(

The plugin is available from the plugins route.

Is amending IR/default.map correct? Maybe I've put it in the wrong
place...? Anyone able to clarify the file/location in it?

Open a terminal. Change to the directory where Alien is installed. On
my system it's '/usr/share/slimserver/Plugins/Alien', on sdhubbard's
it's '/opt/slimserver/Plugins/Alien/'.

Then write 'sudo chmod -R 755 HTML/'. This gives lots of permissions on
everything below the HTML directory. I did something slightly different,
but this should do the job.

If you're curious read the man-pages for chmod, chown, and chgrp,... or
ask here:)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze - saving options

2007-10-17 Thread thewallofsound

Apologies if this is a newbie question but I'm struggling to find an
answer.

Running Softsqueeze 3.4 on Windows XP Pro.

I want Softqueeze to access a different hostname than 127.0.0.1 - the
default I assume. I change it in the options but 127.0.0.1 is back in
there after I shut it down and restart.

Is there an INI file or something where this is stored so that I can
change it for good?

Thanks for any guidance

play.hold function is used by other things in certain modes. you
need to make sure you aren't running into a conflict.
for testing purposes, try changing the 9.hold mapping under the

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien and w32codecs

2007-10-17 Thread Fletch

Many of the sites with alien installation instructions mention
installing additional codecs. Is that really necessary? A quick test
suggests that I can play all common formats (wma, real, etc) with just
the native mplayer codecs and additional w32 codecs are not needed.
Are there really any internet radio sources out there that would need
additional binary codecs? Note that I am on linux and am interested in
general internet radio compatibility, not just bbc.

GROAN!!

I changed all play.hold to that definition and now under standard
browsing the plugin does get offered... However, on leaving the plugin
it leaves you buried down in plugins, rather than where you previously
were? *sigh* This is clunky!

The additional codecs are not needed for BBC with mplayer 1.0pre8 or

You might need codecs for some smaller stations using old version of

In my experience you may need to stop Squeezecenter, a reboot doesn't
harm either, then delete the cache and the temp file that the scrobbler
plugin writes to (its not in the SC directory - you need to search for
"*pending*" or your last.fm name), then start SC.

One minor irritation with SoftSqueeze 3.4 on Windows is that every time I

Hmmm, I tried to move the icon to the quick launch folder and run it from
there. The desktop icon wasn't recreated. I moved the icon back to the
desktop, and now it stays in position when launched. I don't know why this
would fix the issue.

However, a side effect is that now when SoftSqueeze is launched and comes up in
power-off mode, there is no text. I assumed the brightness setting had been
lost, but when I press the "bright" button on the remote I still don't see
anything on the display. I checked in the player settings via WebUI, and the
power-off mode does have a brightness value of 3.

If I power on the softsqueeze player, the screen text is okay.

Any idea what is going on there?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] NAD Amp : IR Blaster working, direct link not working.

2007-10-17 Thread blah

Hello,
i am currently using (and loving) my squeezebox (v3) with my NAD C325
amplifier. I built myself an IR Blaster (the first on
http://www.lirc.org/transmitters.html works great) which works
perfectly with the attached .ir file (for reference for NAD SR-5 remote
users).
However the NAD amplifier has a mini jack IR Input which I would like
to use (it would be much nicer visually).

So I contacted NAD to have the specs of the IR input. Here is their
reply :
> The C325BEE uses NEC encoding with customer code 877C for it's IR
> commands. Attached is a list of all of the commands.
> The IR input connector uses a 3.5mm (or 1/8") mini jack. The tip of
> the
> connector is the signal and the sleeve is ground. The signal level is
> 5V. The signal can be modulated with a 38 kHz carrier or can be
> unmodulated. For unmodulated signals, the signal can be normally low
> with positive pulses or normally high with negative pulse.

So the IR Blaster with a jack-jack cable should work.
Unfortunately it does not :(

So I recorded using a sound card (I couldn't get an oscilloscope
easily) both the NAD IR Ouput and the Squeezebox's blaster output.
The result is in the attached Zip file. Left channel is the squeezebox,
right channel is the NAD.

As you can see, the NAD is outputting the data with pulse. But I think
the main problem may be the first pulse which is inverted on the NAD
output.
Has anyone ever seen such a protocol and made it work ?

I checked the code of the IR-BLaster plugin but it seems this would
need a modification of the firmware.

Any comment or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you considered using the SR-5 to control the Squeezebox? I usually
don not even have the original SB remote in the living room.

yes i have considered this but since the squeezebox is my only source
attached to the amp I would rather use its remote since it is much
nicer to hold and to look at and it gives direct access to all
functions :)

On Unix, case matters.

It is "SoftSqueeze.jar¨

Huh?

As I previously said - maybe you missed it - I got it to work (to test
it) by changing all definitions of play.hold to the suggested line.

So at least while playing a track, holding play goes into it. The
plugin works a treat but the problem is when you come out of it, rather
than being where you previously were, you're in 'plugin'.

I suspect this is just the way it (SB) works? Hence my previous
*groan*...

Is that the case?

You only want to set the play.hold action for the playlist player menu (now
playing screen). I recommend you change your Default.map back to normal, and
add the following to a file called custom.map:

[playlist]
play.hold = menu_PLUGIN.Scanner

Then select "Custom" keyboard mapping within the player settings pages.

OK... I'll put my backup back and do as you say... And you recon that
when I press LEFT (or RIGHT) out of that SCANNER I should return back
to the track/album I was previously in, rather than being left in
'PLUGIN'?

No. To exit the scanner back to the current playing track, press Now Playing.
