With many thanks to Triode, I now have a fully operational mplayer, and
therefore Alien BBC. Thanks too to the others, especially Steve and
bpa, who helped along the way. This forum works because there are
people like these prepared to help others and give generously of their
time and knowledge. Thank you all.

User reporting problems clearly also help a great deal.

I recall a number of AlienBBC users who have complained of AlienBBC
sound quality but without any specifics - I suspect some of them were
related to this issue.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AudioReview and Biography for new remote controls ?

2008-02-22 Thread pippin

After even more testing I've got another change for Biography, too.

BTW, I do get a lot of Safari Crashes with the Biography Plugin (PC AND
iPod, any Skin. What exactly does that inline JS code import? I don't
see how anything else could cause this since the HTML code is quite
straightforward.

Oh, and the timeout change didn't help. I set it to 10s, yet I do
already get a network issue error after 1-2s. I suspect the plugin
reports a network error while the real cause is that the service
doesn't identify the artist or something. It's clearly a context
sensitive issue.

There are two features (if I remember right): slide show, flipping through
the various artist pictures (can be disabled in the settings) and page refresh.

That's odd. It's a known problem with Allmusic.com. But after increasing the

For other users who want this new build of Intel mplayer, I think there
might be some confusion as to where exactly it is on the AlienBBC site.
It doesn't seem obvious; indeed the link on the instructions section is
to the mplayerhq site.

Also, should mplayerhq themselves be informed that their version is
buggy for some?

Now we've got two alternatives: either I distribute those with the next

would be nice, if you could register the plugins under
additionalLinks.pluginsiPeng, in this case they would automatically
work with iPeng from version 0.3 on.
Otherwise I would use add them to the link table with the next
 version.

If you want to make a common html file for iPeng and the defualt skin,
I think that's possible, but only with changes in the plugin code: you
would have to use the default iPeng classes instead of the manually
defined CSS styles in the code. I cannot just override the default
values since, as you can see from the differences between the two
files, depending on content they have to look different to look good.

Let me bring this up again. It's your choice. If you do nothing I will
distribute it with the next version of iPeng. However, we should keep
this consistent, that is: I don't want to provide an iPeng skin file
and then your next version has it's own iPeng files and in the end
things get mixed up.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] CustomBrowse CustomScan file containing data to join with SC database

2008-02-22 Thread Rik

I was wondering if there is any possibility to use the CustomBrowse
CustomScan plugins to get their data from something like a CSV (comma
separated value) (text) file somewhere on my server. If that data can
be joined with the SqueezeCenter database, it can be shown in the
webinterface or on the SqueezeBox.

As a possible use I can imagine having the purchase date of my CDs
together with an album title album artist name in a CSV file (or file
of other type). If that information can be joined with the SqueezeCenter
database I can browse the dates I bought my CDs when I'm listening to
music.

Thanks,

Rik

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Need a little help on XMRadio and Squeezebox

2008-02-22 Thread pcumming

Cannot log in to XMRADIO via Squeezebox. Not sure why. I have an account
on XM. I can listen online and so on.

I have Slimserver version 6.54 and the XMRadio plugin. Tried it plain
vanilla with the 6.54 download and then downloaded a patch I found and
extracted it to XMRadio subfolder on Windows XP PC.

When I use the Squeezebox it states log in is not correct or something
to that effect. Has a ? on screen with the word Login.

I note when I log in via the web to XMRADIO I use a username and a
password.

In the Slimserver local WEB interface it asks for email and
password-not user name. In the username field I tried email and then
tried the username. Still cannot log in.

My password for XM has a capital letter in it and I entered it a few
times to make sure.

Rebooted a few times and did all I know how to do right now.

Any ideas

Thanks so much
Peter

The plugin itself works. However, you stumbled over a doc fault in my
Developer's doc.
You register pluginiPeng while iPeng actually evaluates
plugins*-i*-Peng. I didn't notice that so far since Erland's plugins
have been the only ones to do this so far and they do it correctly.
Which is kind of funny since it was actually Erland who wrote that bit
of explanation due to my complete Perl and SC plugin ignorance.
Could you change that? It still works with the updated home.html I
posted earlier.
Sorry for that.

The answers to all your questions are yes... I can access the internet

to running 7.0 as a service.

I ran the SqueezeServer Startup Options program and set my user name

then showed that it was no longer timing out.

I interrupted it because I'm iced in and couldn't spend the day without

[SlimDevices: Plugins] How to use Custom Skip and give a song a low rating

2008-02-22 Thread lorirobn

Hi,

I just downloaded the plugin Custom Skip, based on another post where I
asked about skipping songs.

The description on the plugin said I could use it to play songs with a
rating less than 1, or add songs to a Zapped playlist. I don't know if
it's me, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do either of
these. I have searched the forums and googled it. Are there explicit
instructions anywhere?

In one thread, I read about a Zapped playlist. I don't have this...do
I have to set it up?

I guess I do well with detailed instructions. Can anyone point me in
this direction? I am not very expert at using Squeezebox or the web
interface (or the new interface, for that matter) so I need
instructions that walk me through it step by step.

Thanks for any help! I am normally quite computer savvy but seem to be
having problems figuring sb things out.

By the way, is there a way to add songs to a zapped playlist and skip
them from ever playing without using this plugin?

Many thanks...
Lori

You will need to install the TrackStat plugin to be able to skip by
ratings. When TrackStat is installed you will get some type type of
skipping filters in the Custom Skip user interface, one is Maximum
rating to skip which does what you like.

standing on a song in the Now Playing menu to add stuff to the Zapped

that you should hold the Add(+) key on the remote for a second or two
when standing in the Now Playing menu.

As described above, you can add them to Zapped Playlist without this
plugin.
To actually skip them, you will either need this plugin or the Skip
Zapped Songs plugin found here:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=23175.
Skip Zapped Songs is a bit less flexible and just skips songs in the
Zapped Playlist but doesn't do any other kind of skipping.

I don't think any of those plugins would override play.hold, although play.hold
is usually associated with invoking mixers.

MusicIP certainly has a mixer, so could be interfering. Maybe Random Mix?

A while back, I submitted a patch that included some logging in player.ir, to
show when plugins try to register key commands. It will indicate if the key
mapping was successful, or whether it was ignored. Try changing the logging
level for player.ir to info, and restart to see what the plugins are doing.

2. Put the information in a csv file and implement a custom scanning
module to Custom Scan which reads the csv file.
I thought about implementing a custom scan module to read files called
info.txt, which I often include in folders with my music to contain any
interesting information about an album. Sometimes album reviews, sometimes
interesting facts about the recording (such as detailed info for live concerts).

Is this easy to do? Could it find the info file and associate the info as a
tag with each song in the folder that contains the info? Also, could it
instead associate information with albums, rather than songs?

Calling all brave souls with X-10 CM11A computer interfaces!

I've just uploaded a new SqueezeCenter7 alpha release of
PowerCenter[0] that should add support for an additional X10 computer
interface.
http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/slim7/BottleRocket/

CAVEAT: I have not tried this software with a CM11A myself! I've only
just built software that *sounds* like a good fit (http://heyu.org/),
including (even more of a reach here) making some small changes in
order to build a Windows version.

Anyone currently using BottleRocket with SC7 who wants to switch
should
1) shut down SC7
2) find your SC7 prefs/plugins folder
3) copy (or rename) BottleRocket.prefs to PowerCenter.prefs
4) open PowerCenter.prefs and change any instances of the phrase
BottleRocket to PowerCenter -- you should only have that in one or
two spots, in reference to the 'br' or 'br.exe' apps that are included
with the plugin

To use a CM11A controller, change the 'br'/'heyu' path from 'br.exe' to
'heyu.exe' or 'br' to 'heyu'.

Please, please, please let me know if you're able to try out the new
'heyu' support. I haven't yet talked myself into spending $15 to buy
one myself, as my CM17A firecracker is working fine. :-)

-Peter

[0] Yes, PowerCenter. I first named the plugin BottleRocket when it
only supported X10 Firecracker controllers using the Linux 'br'
BottleRocket utility (http://www.linuxha.com/bottlerocket/). Thanks to
Greg Brown of SuperDateTime and SiriusRadio fame
(http://gregbrown.net/), all the SC7 releases, and the last unofficial
SlimServer 6 releases have supported Insteon software. With the new
Controller interface
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41482) and now,
hopefully, support for another X10 controller that does not use the
'br' utility, a more general name seems appropriate.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicInfoScr Help

2008-02-22 Thread RedondoJonathan

Do you mean Server Settings / Formatting? I added Album Artist and
Performer in the Formatting menu, then added it to one of the display
lines in the Music Info Screen, but all that displays on the transporter
screen is Album Artist I must be doing something wrong.

I don't suppose this next question
You can add them in Settings/Interface: it's a bit cumbersome, but you
 can
add those tags to the list of title formats, one by one (enter tag
 name,
 Apply, next).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - adding categories to SC7 favourites?

2008-02-22 Thread ModelCitizen

Cheers bpa. The Listen by Genre is exactly what I have created in my
favourites!

The search is very useful too. But the best thing is it's made me aware
of what I can create in the BBC menus. Thanks.

If I come across the right person or can get access to a right person
in the BBC I might attempt to see if the organisation would be
interested in providing a useful menu structure for the use of third
party players like the SB3. It can't be hard for them can it? Or is
there some factor I'm not aware of or am missing?

I don't suppose by any small chance you might at some time have
sketched out the top levels of a proposed useful BBC radio menu?

Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

It's the music, stupid.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP overriding SavePlaylist's play.hold functionality?

2008-02-22 Thread kyleki

I don't think any of those plugins would override play.hold, although
play.hold is usually associated with invoking mixers.

MusicIP certainly has a mixer, so could be interfering. Maybe Random
 Mix?

A while back, I submitted a patch that included some logging in
player.ir, to show when plugins try to register key commands. It
will indicate if the key mapping was successful, or whether it was
ignored. Try changing the logging level for player.ir to info, and
restart to see what the plugins are doing.

 Phil

Thank you, I'll give that a try.

One thing I failed to mention was the behavior I'm seeing. When I'm
viewing the currently playing song in the Now Playing menu on the
player and hold down the play button, it simply starts playing the song
over from the beginning. I realize this is the default behavior, so
maybe it's not a plugin issue and simply just a bug in the SavePlaylist
plugin?

If the debug settings show anything more, I'll make sure to post them.
In the meantime, is anyone else having issues with holding down the play
button on the remote to save a playlist?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Scanner Plugin

2008-02-22 Thread wnshall

Hi,

Is kdf's scanner plugin still available for ss 6.5? The only site I
could find for downloading was
http://code.google.com/p/kdfplugins/downloads/list
which appears to only have a SC7 version of scanner (and bookmark,
which I'd also like to get.) Any help would be appreciated,

-steve
