RetroBrowser is an applet for the Controller (the remote half of the
Duet). The applet makes the display look like that of the classic
Squeezebox SqueezePlay is the desktop version of the software that you
see on the Controller normally.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] New Plugin Request

2008-08-05 Thread Ashy72

Hi I have an idea for a plugin that would really benefit me.

I would like a plugin to turn off my headless linux server box from the
squeezebox itself. At the moment I use my pda with pocket putty and
login with my user name and password then issue the command sudo
shutdown -P +0 (to turn off instantly use 0) then enter my password
again, thats it. However its a bit clunky using a stylus and pda
keyboard. A simple menu item in extras to issue the commands to the
remote server would be a lot easier.

Anyone interested and have the ability to do this for me? It would be
most appreciated!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.67 (Windows frontend)

2008-08-05 Thread Dr Lovegrove
2008/8/2 Phil Meyer [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
 I've got some Moose suggestions:

A simple instant hover text tooltip may be nice for mouse-over tray icon

Yes, good idea.. I'll add that in.. This would solve the 'toast eating a
click' issue too..

 2. Double-click on tray icon opens Moose window, but another
double-click on tray icon doesn't close the window.

Likewise, easy enough to add..

 3. If I change the player volume using the slider control on the main Moose
window, the control remains active, but there's no indication that it's
active. I've occasionally accidentally then subsequently changed the volume
by using the mouse wheel, instead of scrolling the playlist up/down. Perhaps
after changing volume, the focus should be lost?

Not noticed this, but I can see how it could be quite annoying.. I'll
have a play..

 4. Not sure what the popcorn button is meant to do.

Everything, anything and nothing. See Sean's microwave manual. :-)

Actually it sends the 'popcorn' command to the server. If you add a line to the
server's custom.map file such as:
popcorn = modefunction_PLUGIN.RandomPlay::Plugin-tracks
it'll make a press of the button start random songs mode.. At least it used to,
but i suspect the plugin format's changed now ?

You can pretty much do anything with it though.. Fire off a MusicIP playlist,
reboot your server, turn off the lights..

I'll add an option one day to hide it..

 5. In Library window, there's a Genres filter. Is this work in progress?
Popular and Alphabetic only have All Genres and More Genres - which is
 empty.
Ah. I think I've just worked this out. I forgot that last time I tried to
do a scan, I got an error about ratings column, so although I can see music
items listed under Server library tree, I get no albums in Library/Albums
 tree node.

Yes, you need to do a full scan - the genres are read after everything else.
There was a fix for the ratings error a while back.. Are you on 0.67a ?

changed since the last scan and waalaw a completely different album
started playing. Kind of cool. Random by choice. So I take it that
you had better update the scan when it tells you.

Moose uses the server's track ID's to play tracks.. As you've found, these
have a habit of changing on the server when it does a scan.

Enjoy,

2008-08-05 Thread gharris999

OK. Yet another new version posted at the head of this thread:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521

New features: The sleep button feature is now a sleep+hold feature
thanks to peterw's AllQuiet code. This allows the regular sleep button
behavior to remain undisturbed.

Also, in the plugin settings, you can select the action to take on a
sleep+hold button press: display the plugin menu, shutdown, suspend to
SN, etc.

This potentially makes shutting down/suspending/hibernating your server
and switching your player over to SN a one-button affair. And
hopefully, this earns WAF points.

This is the most important feature that is missing today in my opinion.

However. I'm wondering if the easiest way to listen to rating changes

One more thing I noticed in my Windows XP environment. After the SB3

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Totally confused by SoftSqueeze versions!

2008-08-05 Thread tcutting

Squeezeplay has been offered as the official softsqueeze replacement.
I believe the path is that the audio support for the controller (when
it's available) will evolve into audio support in the desktop
squeezeplay application. One concern is that many folks use
squeezeslave as a lite desktop player which runs in the background
and uses few resources, and whether the squeezeplay player will be
nearly as efficient.
On the positive side, the squeezeplay player is supposed to support
more variations of services than squeezeslave (and softsqueeze?).

(When I say official I mean that both Softsqueeze and Squeezeslave
are really 3rd party applications and so not officially supported by
Slim/Logitech but Squeezeplay will be a Slim Devices product).

 -f -k -t 20
 ..actually execute psshutdown?

2). on your ubuntu box, can you execute:
 sudo /sbin/shutdown -h 5

 ?
Hi.
Thanks for your help so far - still only shutting down squeezecenter
though, not the PC.

sudo /sbin/shutdown -h 5 worked.

Yes, that's right. Currently, there is no way to cancel the action
once you press sleep+hold. You really, really need to mean it. Adding
a cancel option here is going to involve a fair amount of work, I think,
and more than I'll have for in the next couple of weeks.

tamanaco;326241 Wrote:
One more thing I noticed in my Windows XP environment. After the SB3
switches to the SN it takes the psshutdown.exe about a minute to
execute in the server. I tried using -t 5, but it still takes the same
amount of time. Anyone else seeing this? Is there some setting in SC
server that might be delaying the psshutdown.exe execution?
Yes again. There is a two minute time-out built into all the switch to
SN actions BEFORE psshutdown.exe / shutdown gets executed. This is
there to allow a SBC to follow along with it's player in making the
switch. If you don't have a SBC, the wait accomplishes nothing except
annoying you. I ought to make these time-outs a user setting.

But absent that, if you want to experiment with modifying your copy of
the code, edit Plugin.pm and look for the line that begins:

sub initMenuItems {

..then look down for the lines assigning values of 120 to cmdwait.
The cmdwait values are the seconds to wait after switching to SN
before initiating the shutdown, suspend, etc. Experiment with reducing
that number.

Did you follow the instructions in the readme file about editing the
/etc/sudoers file? I'm sorry, but my distro is Fedora and I know next
to nothing about other distros. But I'm guessing that yes, the password
requirement is the problem. Somehow, you have to convince sudo to allow
the user squeezecenter to execute shutdown, pm-suspend and
pm-hibernate all without requiring a password.

I prefer it like this anyway. Admittedly, I haven't tried this yet, because
I've configured Execute plugin to use sleep.hold to suspend ;)

However, I was hoping that I could use this SvrPowerControl plugin instead, and
the sleep.hold would instantly start the suspend (no 15 sec delay). Does it
work in power off mode too?

 Any ideas?
Sorry to ask about obvious things that you've probably already done,
but I'm not seeing anything in the log entries that raises a red flag.
The log entry:

[08-08-05 18:30:01.8852] Slim::Schema::forceCommit (1483) Warning:
Trying to commit transactions before DB is initialized!

shows up in there because the plugin effectively kills SqueezeCenter as
part of the prep for a shutdown. I don't know that that's really
necessary, but this aspect goes back to Adrian C's original code. The
plugin makes no attempt to recover gracefully from a failed shutdown
attempt.

Did you follow all the instructions in the read me about editing the
/etc/sudoers file?

Code:

Add the squeezecenter user to the /etc/shutdown.allow file:
  touch /etc/shutdown.allow
  echo 'squeezecenter' /etc/shutdown.allow

  Edit the /etc/sudoers file:

Comment out the line with: Defaults requiretty
so that it reads: #Defaults requiretty

Add these lines to the end of the sudoers file:

## Allows members of the squeezecenter group to shutdown this system
%squeezecenter ALL=NOPASSWD:/sbin/shutdown
%squeezecenter ALL=NOPASSWD:/usr/sbin/pm-suspend
%squeezecenter ALL=NOPASSWD:/usr/sbin/pm-hibernate

Also, have you looked at epoch1970's debian install notes distributed
with the plugin?

Have you verified that the paths to shutdown, pm-suspend, pm-hibernate
are actually /sbin/shutdown, /usr/sbin/pm-suspend,
/usr/sbin/pm-hibernate? If those utilities reside at paths other than
those above, you'll need to edit the sudoers file to accurately reflect
those paths and you'll need to go into the plugin's settings page and
fix up the command paths there too.

Sorry I don't have any easy answers. Linux seems like an entire
ecosystem and I'm used to dealing with just a single species: Fedora.

it'll make a press of the button start random songs mode.. At least it used to,

You can pretty much do anything with it though.. Fire off a MusicIP playlist,
reboot your server, turn off the lights..

I'll add an option one day to hide it..

Sounds pretty useful, although would be better achieved by confuguring the
popcorn action within Moose, rather than editing a keymap file?

I've managed to get it to shutdown!
I followed the instructions here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Sudoers

specifically:
Shutting Down From The Console Without A Password

Often people want to be able to shut their computers down without
requiring a password to do so. This is particularly useful in media PCs
where you want to be able to use the shutdown command in the media
centre to shutdown the whole computer.

To do this you need to add some cmnd aliases as follows:

Cmnd_Alias SHUTDOWN_CMDS = /sbin/shutdown, /sbin/halt, /sbin/reboot

You also need to add a user specification (at the end of the file after
the %admin ALL = (ALL) ALL line so it takes effect - see above for
details):

your username ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: SHUTDOWN_CMDS

I've not tried suspend etc yet, but I'm confident that between my half
a brain and google I can work it out :)

Thanks for all your help and for making a great plugin!

it will play the whole program or ten minutes, I have always had a bit

a solution to fix this; all boxes are connected on a gigabit network
with a 4meg DSL connection, in a simple format, please? (While typing
this count Arthur strong got to 4 mins twice and now is at 23mins)

This usually happens on Windows system but rarely on Linux as well:
* which have the TCP parameters tuned either by the user or a
application which claims to improve network performance (e.g. download
speed).
or
* using a satellite internet link

Choice is either revert to standard settings or remove --bandwidth
1000 from relevant lines in the custom-convert.conf file. There
is an alt version of the conf file with the bandwidth option removed.

When bandwidth is removed - Listen Again programs will take 10-15
secs to start rather then 2-5 secs. This delays will also happen after
a ffwd or rew.

In the folder where you installed the AlienBBC plugin (usually ends with
server\Plugins\Alien) there is a file called custom-convert.conf.

1. Stop SC
2. Rename the file custom-convert.conf to custom-convert.conf.old
3. Copy the file custom-convert.conf.alt and call new copy
custom-convert.conf
4. Start SC
5. Try Listen Again but it will take between 10-15secs between
pressing play and audio starting.

That means either the new file is not called custom-convert.conf (e.g.
check zero 0 for o (letter o) or _ for - etc.) or the contents has
somehow got corrupted or file permissions got changed.

Double check the name permissions of the conf file.

Other approach
1. copy the file custom-convert.conf.old and saver the copy as
custom-convert.conf
2. Using Wordpad (not Notepad) edit the file custom-convert.conf and
remove all --bandwidth 1 options from the lines in the file.
3. Close and save the file.
4. Restart SC.

Yes, that's right. Currently, there is no way to cancel the action once
you press sleep+hold. You really, really need to mean it. Adding a
cancel option here is going to involve a fair amount of work, I think,
and more than I'll have time for in the next couple of weeks.

I'm fine with it. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something that
you overlooked. As someone else mentioned, the 15 Sec wait should
either be reduced or eliminated if the cancellation option is not
available. If I really did not mean it... spare me the extra 15 seconds
of torture :-)

gharris999;326353 Wrote:

But absent that, if you want to experiment with modifying your copy of
the code, edit Plugin.pm and look for the line that begins:

 sub initMenuItems {

..then look down for the lines assigning values of 120 to cmdwait.
The cmdwait values are the seconds to wait after switching to SN
before initiating the shutdown, suspend, etc. Experiment with reducing
 that number.

I'll try editing that line and experimenting with different values to
reduce the wait time. Making these time-outs a user settings would be
nice as it would allow each user to adjust the timing according to
their system's performance.

Hmmm... I dream of a SBC... but I need to wait for a reduction in
price. The WAF index is very low for the SBC at the current price.

Thanks again for your quick response.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC with SlimServer 7.1 Problems

2008-08-05 Thread David_KM

Is anyone else having problems with AlienBBC and the latest SlimServer?

I'm running Windows XP...

I re-ran the automatic installer for AlienBBC, and no entry for the
excellent plug-in in the SqueezeCentre :-(

Many thanks ;-) in advance!

(where can I download the previous version of Slimserver...)

I was hoping that I could use this SvrPowerControl plugin instead, and
the sleep.hold would instantly start the suspend (no 15 sec delay).
I really should make the regret and the wait after switch to SN
timeouts user configurable in the settings, or perhaps make the
sleep+hold actions use minimal time-outs. In the mean time, hack away
at Plugin.pm and reduce the time-outs there. Look for the lines that
read:

$nDeferTime += 15;

and reduce that 15 to something that's more to your liking.

Philip Meyer;326373 Wrote:

It appears to work the same whether the player being IR-ed is on or
off.

Did you install AlienBBC 2.01 for 7.1 ?

If you installed AlienBBC 2.01 for 7.0 or AlienBBC 2.0 for 7.0 - they
will not work as they are set up to work on 7.0.x only

I have been trying it for some time now. I very much like the sleep hold
option. Excellent solution!
The only drawback is that the command of psshutdown is still not
executed. it is the XP taskbar but not doing anything.
Guess it looks like an XP permission issue. which I cannot figure
out...
I'll keep looking into this.

I quite like the delay/chance to abort when selecting through the menu. I was
thinking that sleep.hold could be instant.
However, thanks for the pointer; I think I may simply reduce the defer time.

Does it work in power off mode too?
It appears to work the same whether the player being IR-ed is on or

Great.

I'll see if I can get the latest version of the plugin working, and then I may
be able to remove the Execute plugin to reduce my enabled set of plugins by one!

Thanks,
Phil

I fired up my xp pro dev box this afternoon and tested the latest
version of the plugin with today's 7.2 nightly. No problems, as far as
I can tell. Everything I tested seem to work smoothly. Are you running
as an administrator on your XP box?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2008-08-05 Thread renkwist

gharriss- let me compliment you on an excellent plug in- it does work
exactly as planned when shutting down my server. However, it can't turn
it on. I have a dell vostro pc and a duet receiver. The receiver is
connected to pc via ethernet cable, and the controller talks directly
to the squeezebox (I dont have a wireless router). The pc has a
wireless pc card that gets wifi from my neighbors (with permission)
which i use to get squeezenetwork, radio, etc.

Turning off with your plugin works perfectly. But on turn on, nada.
When the pc is off, the duet receiver stays blue. The controller tries
to connect to the squeezebox, but can't since pc isn't on, thus nothing
happens. Also, when pc is in hibernate, same thing occurs- receiver
turns blue, and can't wake pc unless i move mouse or use keyboard;
nothing on the controller can get pc to wake up since controller itself
is trying to connect to squeezebox to no avail.

would love your help or anyone else's- I am sure I don't have something
set up properly and this would be a killer feature to be able to turn on
pc from off or sleep. thanks again.
