I'm joining this thread late and kind of confused. Is this program
needed or just an easier way of installing plugins? Is 7.3 different
with the installation of plugins? Can you still manually install them
in the plugin folder or do you need something like this? I've never
had any problem with plugins so if this isn't something I need I'd
rather do it as I've done in the past.

It's an easy way to install plugins. You'll get a list of plugins available
online, with description, version etc. Add it with two clicks of the mouse. No
need to download, search the plugins folder, unpack etc.

Can you still manually install them
in the plugin folder or do you need something like this?

No. It's optional. You can still go throught the whole lot of the old hassle if
you prefer :-).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: 7.3 Plugin Installer

2008-11-25 Thread Phil Meyer
I think there's a bug in the Extension Downloader page. I haven't played with
this much, because I have many plugins already installed manually, and I'm not
going to uninstall them just to install them again in the wrong place.
However, I thought this was worth reporting:

I added Erlands repositry:
http://erlandplugins.googlecode.com/svn/repository/trunk/latest.xml and pressed
return - it said it had saved changes. I didn't get anything listed on the
Extension Downloader page. I pressed the Apply button and refreshed the page,
just to make sure. Still nothing.

I added another repositry: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/slim7/repodata.xml.
Finally I got a list of plugins that I could choose to install, plus those that
were already installed.

I believe I have all of Erlands plugins installed, so it looks like if there
are no plugins that can be installed, then installed plugins are not listed
either?

Some more comments:

1. Author - for Erland's installed plugins, the author is not listed. It knows
there are plugins available, and I assume he has put his name in the repositry
xml file, so why not display it?

2. The version isn't displayed for manually installed plugins. It would be
useful to show the currently installed version, and the version available from
the repositry.

3. Why can't manually installed plugins be uninstalled/updated through the
Extension Downloader? Surely all it needs to do is delete a plugin folder, and
unzip the new content to a folder? If the original plugin folder can't be
deleted, then report that it can't be uninstalled/updated automatically.

4. Is there any recommended standardisation for the Author name? eg.
Firstname Lastname, Lastname, Firstname, forum user name?

5. Do plugins only get listed as available if they are appropriate? eg. if the
SC version is outside of defined min/max plugin version limits, is a plugin
listed? What if there are multiple versions of a plugin for different versions
of SC? Is each one listed, or only the most appropriate version?

6. Can a plugin have dependencies? eg. Only allow TitleSwitcher plugin to be
installed if MusicInfoSCR is installed?

I'm going to have a go at creating a repositry for my plugins later. What's
the latest status of this? Do I need to host it on my website and add the
repositry link to the wiki page? Will the page automatically be parsed to
pre-load the repositries into SC?

Cheers,
Phil

I am seeing a lot of plugins that I could install, but haven't got an interest
in, or are not appropriate. Perhaps it would be a good idea to include another
checkbox column that would allow the user to hide chosen plugins, eg. plugins

This is similar to the Microsoft Update site.

This would make the list more manageable for end users.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2008-11-25 Thread sderuiter

Hi,
I have a Boom, v. 7.2.1 installed and 5.7.0 (5.8.0 gives the dreaded
404 error on settings).

I've tried all possible solutions, I think, but the display on my Boom
is messy with SuperDateTime.

1. I don't understand the settings. First two pull-down boxes, either
yes or no, I don't know what the second one does.
2. 3-line display and 2-line display. Does a Boom have a 2 or 3 line
display?
3. The normal Date plugin is able to show the time when off, however
SuperDateTime does not. If I power on the Boom, the time is shown
again.
4. I can see the weather image (clouds, f.e.) and some text. I
sometimes (mostly when off) see a sun with horizontal lines through it.
Not sure how to get one or the other.
5. The display shows 2 layers on top, I think because 3-line and 2-line
displays are shown together.

Current settings: yes, yes, 3-line:empty, 2-line: %1 (line 1), %T (line
2).

I think this plugin is capable of doing what I want (show time,
weathericon, current temp and maybe another number, no scolling text),
but I seem to be unable to make it do so!

Thanks for you help.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: 7.3 Plugin Installer

2008-11-25 Thread Philip Meyer

Thanks. I haven't tried installing/uninstalling plugins through this
new approach, but I have every expectation that it will work well,
according to other peoples experiences.

The selection grid works well, and it will help inexperienced users to
easily install plugins that are hosted in the SC repositry (when there
is one).

However, for developers, beta testers or people that have a lot of
plugins from a lot of authors, it seems that it may not be all that
useful at the moment, or will at least exhibit pain moving from old to
new mechanism for each plugin in turn.

What happens if SC is upgraded and an installed plugin version is no
longer considered suitable for SC? Does it automatically uninstall, or
just highlight it as incompatible?

With the download extension, it won't list the plugin if the plugin
version isn't compatible with SC? So I assume it could uninstall a
plugin, and not list it following an upgrade of SC. I'd get no
indication that it had done it?

At least if it was listed but as incompatible, I could download
manually and tweak the maxVersion element.

I'll post some enhancement requests.

I like the idea. I think the hide logic should be based on a checksum
of plugin name + description so that hidden plugins would become
visible again if the description changed (but NOT based on mere updates
to version, changelog changes, etc.). Imagine my PowerCenter plugin --
it used to only support Linux. Windows users naturally would hide info
about a plugin that didn't run on Windows. When I added Windows
support, I could've updates the description in the repo Windows users
would then see that plugin again. Basing the hide logic on name+desc
would let users learn of new features, while keeping hidden any plugin
whose description/features hadn't changed.

I like this idea but I would like it to work in the opposite direction.
If a user selects Title Switcher I would like it to either
automatically check MusicInfoSCR or at least inform the user that he
needs to install MusicInfoSCR for Title Switcher to work. This is
also relevant for SQL Playlist which requires Dynamic Playlist to
work.

To enhance this even further it would be nice to also make it possible
to suggest other plugins which can be installed to enhance the
functionality. Similar to what apt-get does on Linux where it suggest
other related packages to install.
As an example if a user install TrackStat it would be nice to give the
user information that he will get enhanced functionality if he also
install Custom Scan plugin (which is required for TrackStat to be
able to import/export from iTunes and MusicIP). It's not a requirement
though, TrackStat will work perfectly without Custom Scan.

Maybe we need some elements like this:

Code:

  requires

  /requires

And also something like this:

Code:

  suggestions
  extensionMusicInfoSCR/extension
  extensionCustomScan/extension
  extensionDynamicPlayList/extension

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Changing mp3 files for flac but without losing trackstat data

2008-11-25 Thread Tver

I'm currently in the proces of upgrading my mp3 collection to flac, but
I would like to do that with as little loss of trackstat data as
possible.
If I copy the flac files with an identical filename into the same

Trackstat use the extension of a file (.mp3 or .flac) as an
identifier?

If it does what would be possible worarounds apart from manually
changing the database (which would be my last resort...)

Yes, you would loose the statistic

Tver;363641 Wrote:

If you are using the latest version of TrackStat the following is
supposed to work assuming only the flac file will be part of the
SqueezeCenter library after the change:

1. Perform a TrackStat backup (make sure the backup succeeds so you get
a backup file filled with information)
2. Change the files and perform a full rescan
3. Perform a TrackStat restore

The restore operation is supposed to be able to reconnect tracks if the
last 3 directories and the filename without the extension is the same as
before. It will only reconnect it to the flac file if the mp3 file is no
longer part of the SqueezeCenter library.

If you do it like this there is always another workaround available if
it doesn't work. If it doesn't work you can open the backup xml file in
a texteditor and replace .mp3 to .flac before you perform the
restore.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Changing mp3 files for flac but without losing trackstat data

2008-11-25 Thread Phil Meyer
I submitted the change for Trackstat backup restoration, which Erland has
applied to his code. I'm not sure what version it went into - it's probably a
good idea to get the latest versions installed to be sure you have the change.

For each statistic in the backup file being restored, it first looks for an
exact path/filename match in the SC database. If it isn't found, it tries to
re-associate the statistic with a song having the same artist/album/song name
path on the end of the URL. I also stripped the file extension off in this
check.

So, as Erland says, if you make a full trackstat backup (not a bad thing to do
anyway), and then a full rescan, and restore the trackstat backup, it should
marry the stats back to the new files.

It works for me, but it is a bit specific still at the moment, in that my music
storage path structure is M:\Music\Phil's
Music\genre\artist\album\filename. As long as the last part
\...\...\filename part doesn't change, you will be okay.

A further enhancement could be made to the restore functionality to recursively
look back through shorter end-parts of the URLs until a match is found, but
there would be a concern that a song may be found on another album by another
artist. My current change was kept simple and is therefore still fairly quick.

I think I also added additional logging, so if it doesn't work, you could turn
the logging up to info or debug level, and look in the log file.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2008-11-25 Thread indifference_engine

Hi Erland ( everyone), I'm a bit of a noob with forums so apologies if
my netiquette isn't quite up to scratch. I've been using
CustomBrowse2.4 with SC7.2 7.3 without problem. I use the artists by
letter and albumes by letter extensively and love it. I upgraded to
CustomBrowse2.5 on SC7.3 using the repository extension download
feature which works nicely but sinse then Ive had problems with CB.
The plugin shows in the plugins screen and appears to load but when I
go to Manage Menus - Create New Menu - Artists by letter I just get a
blank screen where I should get a bunch of options. Seems to happen
when adding any menu. The log file contains this:
[08-11-26 00:01:37.4507] Slim::Web::HTTP::_generateContentFromFile
(2483) Error: file error - cache failed to write
webadminmethods_newitemparameters.html: No such file or directory

I've checked and webadminmethods_newitemparameters.html is present
here:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\SqueezeCenter\Cache\InstalledPlugins\Plugins\CustomBrowse\HTML\EN\plugins\CustomBrowse
(I haven't moved it so I assume that is where it's meant to be?)

If it helps, I used to have a similar problem with ResetVolume that was
due to a packaging error which has now been resolved.

Thanks for a great bunch of Plugins,
Doug

Is this with 7.3? I haven't checked out the new plugin installer yet.

Greg, just a heads up. For those of us using the new Plugin Installer
the MHCPAN folder was moved to Cache folder. I got your plugin to
work by putting second copy of the MHCPAN folder in the Plugin folder.
Maybe you should adjust your plugin to also look in the Cache folder
 for the pearl code. (treebuilder.pm)

Can someone experiencing this issue please check their log files to see
if there's something more descriptive. The file it's complaining about
exists in the exact same location between 5.7 and 5.8... bit
dumbfounded!

Thanks

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2008-11-25 Thread GoCubs

I just installed a fresh instance if 7.2.1 and then installed 5.8.0 with
the website .zip file and am able to access the plugin with no problems.
Is anyone else out there running 5.8.0 with no issues?

Is everyone certain they installed the plugin into the correct
directory as in:
C:\Programs\SqueezeCenter\server\Plugins\SuperDateTime

NOT:
C:\Programs\SqueezeCenter\server\Slim\Plugin\SuperDateTime

Please confirm. I'm not sure what else I can do to troubleshoot.

restarting too) but no joy. I'm on SC 7.2.1.

 Anything else I can try?

I've had no problems with 5.8 and the 7.3 svn updates.

There was some discussion of your plugin in this thread:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=363450postcount=41

I don't understand most of it, but maybe it will give you some clues.

Your plugin stopped working after I attempted to install Michael
Herger's MHCPAN through the new extension downloader in SC 7.3 betas.
So maybe that is the common denominator for those of us having problems
with SDT 5.8.

Is HTML::TreeBuilder required now? I don't see any reference to it
 in 5.7's Plugin.pm.

Yes it is. It's in the code, trust me :)

Please download 5.8.1... You may have to hit refresh on your web
browser to see the update on the website.

In 5.8.1 I've switched to .par packaging which 'should' resolve the
issues some people are having. Please let me know if they continue.

Thanks
-Greg

I've gone ahead and posted 5.8.1 to www.gregbrown.net. I've switched to
.par packaging which 'should' resolve the library/missing file issues
some of you are having. Please let me know if the issues continue.

You may have to hit refresh on your web browser to see the update on

Also new in this version are updated Duet weather icons, courtesy of
Sue C. These new icons are much cleaner looking.

Thanks

Same problem with LastFM. It shows
 MIS_REMOTE_TITLESWITCHER_MIS_REMOTE_ARTISTCOMPOSER in the display (I
have defined ARTISTCOMPOSER to switch between ARTIST and COMPOSER which
 is usfull for classical music).

Are you using the very latest and greatest MIS version?
