Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC and Qnap 409

2008-12-24 Thread stebrennan

Hi, thanks for trying that out. Really appreciated!

I managed to get this working my disabling RTSP - FLAC and MP3 from
the settings in SC web interface.

I'm back to square one tho. All BBC stations seem to rebuffer after
about 7-8 seconds. I'll try another mplayer bin and see if this helps.
Do you have any further advice ref rebuffering (I previously was
running AlienBBC fine on Slimserver 6.5 so I'm not sure it's a network
issue)

Thanks again

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC and Qnap 409

2008-12-24 Thread bpa

If it works with just WAV and not MP3 or Flac - then you have a CPU
problem. The CPU is overloaded and cannot decode RealAudio and
re-encode into MP3 or Flac in RealTime.

That make me believe you are using the wrong version of mplayer-stdout
- if the processor in your 409 does not have a FPU it will be v. slow
at decoding and so you get bursts as it takes longer to decode than it
takes to broadcast.

If you are getting continuous audio (i.e. no loss of content) but with
gaps of silence then it is CPU.

If you are getting audio where some audio has been replaced with
silence - then you have a network problem.

If the problem is CPU then try a mplayer with fixed point (i.e. ends
with -fp).

Hi, I've upgraded the firmware on my Netgear router. So far this seems
to have had some effect. Live streams are working pretty well - I'm
still having problems with listen again, but not the same rebuffering

So fingers crossed!

Just reproduced the behavior.

Facts are:

Try to sync an SB3 to the playing receiver or SB3
Track is mp3
On syncing the SB3, the track restarts.

Settings etc:

unsync at power off: on
wait for next track: default
restore playlist: off
allow late join: 5 sec
precision: 0.5 sec

What can I do to help? Logging options? Anything else?

If you disable NBA teams do you still get the error? What OS are you

call that's failing is related to new CPAN libraries the plugin is
using in 7.3 for parsing. My guess is they're not available for some

 you know ;)
I know you are. In fact, out of deference to French cleverness in
general, whenever I say the word clever, I always pronounce it with
my best Jacques Clouseau accent: clev-airgh. ;o)

epoch1970;374981 Wrote:
 I wrote a long response, then scratched it off to say this: unless
 getNextAlarm guarantees to respond an epoch date (ie an absolute UTC
 date) that is:
 1) picked among all known players *at the time of the query*,
 regardless of their current status (incl. on SC/on SN)
 2) valid for the selected player be it on SC or SN at the time *of the
 alarm*
 then I think we're in the mud. (endless clash of policies, complex
 code, heavy maintenance, unhappy users)

 For me, a clear indication is if the routine also reports on players
 connected to SN at the time of the query.
 If it doesn't, then I feel the contract is too weak. SN does/will muck
 with alarms and SC being asleep couldn't do anything to avoid failure.
 If it does, there's a good chance you shouldn't have to care at all
 about DST changes.
I agree: I think that I won't really know where I stand until I can do
some serious testing. If getNextAlarm does indeed always respond with
an epoch date, then that's half the battle.
epoch1970;374981 Wrote:
 (In any case, DateTime I used in my code has an isDST method you can
 call on a date object (which has a TZ). If you call it on the query and
 alarm dates and see it flipping 0/1 or 1/0, you can start the
 incantation of your liking... )
This is the code I wrote yesterday...but I haven't run or tested it
yet:

Code:

  sub IsDSTChangePending {
my ($nStartDate, $nEndDate) = @_;

my ($sec1,$min1,$hour1,$mday1,$mon1,$year1,$wday1,$yday1,$isdst1) =
localtime($nStartDate);
my ($sec2,$min2,$hour2,$mday2,$mon2,$year2,$wday2,$yday2,$isdst2) =
localtime($nEndDate);

if ($isdst1 != $isdst2) {
if ($isdst2) {
return 1;
} else {
return -1;
}
}
return 0;
  }

So, if IsDSTChangePending(time(), $nNextAlarmTime) returns 1 (Spring
ahead), I'll ask the rtc to wake up an hour earlier. If it returns -1
(Fall back) I could postpone the rtc wakeup for an additional hour.

Please tell me that the French, that great nation of rationalists,
don't do anything as bizzare as is common in the States: allowing
small, local units of government to opt out of observing DST. There is
no DST for the entire state of Arizona. You used to find individual
counties in states like Indiana that didn't observe DST. Thus the map
of the edge of a time-zone in the US ends up looking furry and
changes from season to season. But in France, it's all just one
time-zone, right?

I ask this because my dream of the ultimate beta test of SrvrPowerCtrl
would involve a SqueezeBox, a small 12v powered SqueezeCenter server
with my music collection, a barge and the Canal du Midi. I'd hate to
think that I would have to reset the locale on the server every couple
of kilometers.

Problem was the gdi graphics emulation was pretty slow in ubuntu, which
meant it was all rather unusable.. A year or so's passed though, so it
may all be sorted out now.. Worth a try.. You just need to run the .exe

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Possible Extension Downloader issue installing KDF's Pop3 Email Checker plugin

I installed KDF's Pop3 Email Checker plugin using Extension Downloader - it was

I then went back to Extension Downloader and it offers an upgrade from 1.0 to
r43. Why didn't it offer that version first time round? Anyway, when I click
the checkbox to upgrade and apply, it doesn't seem to apply an upgraded
version, as it reports the same in the log upon restart. ED reports that it
still has version 1.0 installed (BTW, the description string is not expanded
either: PLUGIN_ALARM_DESC - assume the string name is wrong).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Moose and Ubuntu

 You just need to run the .exe under the latest mono..

Hi Dr Lovegrove,

Thanks for your reply. As with most of my Linux experiences, I got a
couple of hours down the road to following your suggestion above and
hit a wall I couldn't climb. In this case, I searched forums to learn
what mono was, executed several commands to install mono, and then
could not figure out how to run the .exe file. I have the Monodevelop
environment installed. Was that right? How would I find out? I searched
for how to run .net apps under Ubuntu and followed what was there.

Ubuntu is extremely frustrating for a new user. Simple activities like
running an application require hours of investigation. Each seems to
have its own procedures and protocols: some require adding
repositories, other new environments, others config file modifications,
others god knows what. I know this is not your fault or issue, I just
thought I'd vent.

Still, if you have any suggestions how to run Moose, now that (I hope)
I have mono installed, I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

That would be a NO. Not for long though. I wasn't aware there was a
newer version. I'll kick the tires and advise if the behavior
continues.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Dynamic Playlists in Favorites

2008-12-24 Thread erland

It seems to work in my own setup.

Does the dynamic playlist you have setup as a favorite work if you
launch the playlist directly from the Dynamic Playlists menu ?

Does it work when you launch it as a favorite ?

If both above works, do you have some playlist option or other
filtering (for example with Custom Skip plugin), that could have caused
the playlist to have no matching tracks at the time when the alarm was
triggered.

I think the backup alarm handling doesn't work correctly when used with
a Dynamic Playlist playlist. The situation is probably the same with
other favorites, it's just that other favorites never fails to add a
track so it is only reproducible with Dynamic Playlist (since there
might be no tracks matching the playlist criteria with Dynamic
Playlist).
