Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC Radio Outside the UK

2009-01-09 Thread ozbrit

I have the alienBBC plugin but while I see BBC Essex under the Local
radio heading, this station will not stream live, with only a play it
again facility for selected programs.
Would I be right in thinking that live streaming for this station is
not available? If thats the case then this software is a bit wasted on
me, as I don't really want any of the other BBC streams apart BBC Five
live (International feed),which is available as a WMA stream already. I
wonder why this plugin doesn't convert/stream all RMA streams
automatically, as the plugin for winamp does.

Should the Genre/SubGenres menu now display a "Various Artists" menu
item at the top of the artist list? I installed CB2.6 but I'm not
seeing this behavior. I noticed that the Genre/SubGenre menu now has a
check box for "use various artists" on the configuration page, which I
checked. The list of artists does seem to omit artist that only appear
on compilation albums, but I'm not getting a various artists item to
access compilation albums. Do I misunderstand how it's supposed to
work?

(I'm using SqueezeCenter Version: 7.2.1 - 23630 on Windows XP)

The live stations were accidentally omitted in some of the versions of
AlienBBC when BBC moved local stations over to iPlayer. The latest
version of AlienBBC has Live streams as well as "Listen Again" for
local stations.

In the meantime just add the following URL to your favorites and it
should play
http://www.bbc.co.uk/england/realmedia/live/localradio/essex.ram

Thanks for the help, I've only had the SB3 for a day, I love it, but
its all very confusing to me, SqueezeCenter, squeezeNetwork, Radiotime.
How many different websites does there need to be?

OK I tried SqueezeNetwork, which seems the most logical place to start
for Internet Radio url's and I get this message: Error -- Invalid
stream. SqueezeNetwork can only play MP3, WMA and Ogg streams.
So I won't be listening to this station thru the modem with the PC off,
which would be best for our poor environment, or have I got that one
wrong :o)
I pasted that url into the what appears the appropriate place in
SqueezeCenter where it says tune in url, I don't get a rude message
there and it does play on my Squeezebox, thanks very much.

Any chance of playing this file with PC off?

Thanks again.

No.

SB cannot play RealAudio stream natively - it needs a PC to transcode
from RealAudio into MP3 or Flac.

All the BBC content that is available worldwide is in RealAudio so you
need a PC to transcode.

Some live streams (e.g. 5live, 6Music, BBC7 and World Service) are also
available in WMA - these can be played without a PC.

If you are in the UK the BBC provides MP3 and WMA services for most
services but local radio is still only available in RealAudio.

I simply wanted to create two playlists one which contains my albums

I have SqueezeCenter Version: 7.1 - 22170
have installed sqlplaylist 2.3.1 & dynamic playlists - when i create a

it doesn't seem to make any difference - when i play the saved playlist
it still picks from the whole library ?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Small bug in ExecuteScript-plugin

2009-01-09 Thread riro

Trying to use the plugin ExecuteScript on a Windows Server 2003, running
SC as a Service.

First of, the logfile says:

Code:

  [09-01-09 14:51:29.5513] Plugins::ExecuteScript::Plugin::commandCallbackPower
(272) Execute: Power Off
  [09-01-09 14:51:29.5517] Plugins::ExecuteScript::Plugin::doThisScript (209)
Execute: using server pref

Execute: Executing C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\SqueezeCenter\prefs\scripts\testscript.cmd

So far so good... but the testscript never fires. So I pulled upp
Process Explorer and filtered it down a bit and found out that it tries
to exec the following line:

Code:

  C:\WINDOWS\system32\"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\SqueezeCenter\prefs\scripts\testscript.cmd"

And that doesn't work (doh)... anyone with some perl-knowledge who can
help out?

Running:
- Windows Server 2003 SP2 (32 Bit)
- Squeececenter 7.3.1 (as a service)
- Perl v5.8.8

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New WeatherTime Screensaver adds graphical forecasts

2009-01-09 Thread bsc001

Hello, I'm new to Squeezebox & the forums. I've been playing around
with this plugin, and I think it's really great. My problem is that
I'm using a SB Boom, and the WeatherTime display seems oriented for the
other SB devices.

Are plugins difficult to program? Would it be a lot of work to add
Boom support so the screen layout doesn't truncate the time display? I
love the weather feature, but I'm using the Boom as the main clock in my
room, so a truncated time display is problematic.

This message is normal, PreventStandby is a windows platform plugin. So
this message is unrelated to your trouble running srvPowerControl.
Perhaps you could erase the former plugin directory (
/var/lib/squeezecenter/Plugins/ ) and contents (note this would erase
your prefs as well I think) and reinstall from there ?
In case SC is running correctly, you could also set traces for the
plugin to a higher level, in order to see what's going on. Under the
Advanced stab in SC Settings page, there are logging options and
normally srvPowerControl has an entry in the list.

(I am running SC7.3.1 on xubuntu 8.0.4 and have the last version of
srvPowerControl installed ok from an empty plugins directory.)

Do you think there is any chance of eliminating the need to pass the
administrator password as an argument? I can't see any way of really
storing that password without causing folks to scream about potential
insecurity. I looked at some of the SHA digest functions and,
cryptographic light-weight that I am, it seems like it would be all too
easy to recover the password from the prefs file given that the salt
would be in plain-text in the plugin code. At most, we would be
protecting the system administrative password with what could be
construed as merely minor obfuscation.

I'd follow Epoch1970's advice: delete the whole SrvrPowerCtrl directory
and and also delete the prefs file at:
/var/lib/squeezecenter/prefs/plugin/srvrpowerctrl.prefs.

Then start over, reinstalling the plugin and making sure that you get
the permissions right for all the plugin files.

I'm going to attempt to install Ubuntu 8.1 in a VM over the next couple
of days. Hopefully, I'll get a working install script for debian
distros that I can include with the next release. Sorry about the
present hassle.

Well, the web UI didn't work with the default skin, and now it does :)
That's the only thing I changed (apart from the maxVersion, which was

Unclear to me right now. Without the "password" statement you get a
popup window, that's better than a blind password prompt from sudo but
won't do since I see no option to record the authorization.
The app requesting autorization is "osascript" which purpose is way too
broad anyway.

I think I'll have a look at the keychain app.

EDIT: To be clear, that's not root's password. What's required is the
password for the logged in user. I think this user has to have admin
privileges (e.g. allowed to install apps.)

You will need to make sure you have checked the "Various Artists
section" is checked in Custom Browse and that the "Various Artists
name" setting in Custom Browse matches the name of the "Various
Artists" object, this might differ if you are using some other language
than English. You will also have to make sure that "Group compilation
albums together" is selected in SqueezeCenter settings.

For some reason I cannot for the life of me get AlienBBC working as the

this a problem a few months ago? Any chance the new version of

The iPlayer "Listen Again" are available in RealAudio and MP3. The MP3
ones are only accessible if you are in the UK. Poor description -
should be "BBC provides most services in MP3 and/or WMA in the UK".

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC 7.3 version - beta trial

2009-01-09 Thread gah789

I would like to report another problem. I have tried to set up AlienBBC
on a QNAP TS109 starting from a clean installation of Squeezecenter
7.3.1 and using the Download Extension procedure - today Jan 9th. The
installation appears to complete successfully. I can access AlienBBC,
locate the various live streams and listen again options. However,
when I attempt to play anything - live or listen again - my Squeezebox
says that it is connecting and then nothing happens. Same story for
Radio 3, Radio 4 & Radio Scotland.

I access the internet via a satellite connection through an ISP in
Ireland. I am able to get BBC Radio live through an internet radio
(Revo Pico WiFi). Further, I can play regular internet radio channels
- e.g. WGBH Classical - without problems.

Checking the Squeezecenter server log gives a whole series of messages
of the following type:

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC 7.3 version - beta trial

2009-01-09 Thread bpa

This is an issue with mplayer which uses ncurses which looks for the
type of "terminal" which is running mplayer.

The QNAP is missing the termcap database. Add a termcap database with
a vt102 entry.

If you used SSOTS then there is an update about this.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] SlimNAS 1.1 for SqueezeCenter 7.1+

2009-01-09 Thread blacksaabbath

Hi all.

I just upgraded from slimnas 0.99 and SC 6.something to slimnas 1.1.3
and SC 7.2 on my freenas 0.686.3 box and all seem to go ok but SC
doesn't start automatically after a reboot. All I need to do is click
the save button on services_slimserver.php and it starts fine, but this
is a pain.

I see others have had this issue with other versions of slimnas - but
no solutions have ever been posted!

What can I check? Where should SC be started from on boot-up?

Thanks in advance.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] How to reference variables in Settings.pm

2009-01-09 Thread m_gustafsson

Hi,
how do I reference a preference variable (test_nameX in this example)
in Settings.pm if it is set in my basic.html like this:
[% WRAPPER settingSection %]
[% FOREACH scr = [0 .. 1] %]
[% WRAPPER settingGroup title="PLUGIN_NAME$scr" desc="" %]

[% END %]
[% END %]
[% END %]

This is what my Settings.pm looks like at the moment, and I guess that
I am quite lost here:

# When save is pressed put the value into prefs
for (my $scr = 0; $scr <= 1; $scr++) {
if ($params->{'saveSettings'} &&
$params->{'test_name'.$scr}) {
my $test_name = $params->{'test_name'.$scr};
$prefs->set('test_name'.$scr, "$test_name");
}
}

# Put the value on the webpage
for (my $scr = 0; $scr <= 1; $scr++) {
$params->{'prefs'}->{'test_name'.$scr} =
$prefs->get('test_name'.$scr);
}

The above code in Settings.pm does not get the correct values for
test_nameX.

What I am trying to do is to have a variable number of settings in my
web interface, e.g. like the alarm clock in which you can add and
remove one or several alarms via the web.

Thanks for any support.

The bad news: my laptop's still not fixed. I thought it was the hard
drive, but after unexpected delays getting the drive I ordered, I've
found more weirdness suggesting a more fundamental problem. So I'm
making lots of incremental backups until my new laptop arrives. :-)

The good news: I was able to reproduce the problem you described, and I
just published SyncOptions 7a23 which 1) seems to fix the problem and 2)
has much more sane logging code, so if you have trouble down the road,
you could set the SyncOptions logging to Info or Error to help
troubleshoot.

Sorry for the problems & the delay in addressing them,

Peter

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Browse - error saving menu

2009-01-09 Thread Kvaks

I've been looking for a way to have albums sorted chronologically (first
album first) when browsing an artist. The reverse chronology (latest
album listed first) that some applications (such as Amarok) use bugs me
no end.

Seeing as SC only sorts albums alphabetically when browsing artists
(but provides chronological order when browsing Library->Albums, why
only there?), I was encouraged when I found the Custom Browse plugin.

I made the following change, hoping it would give me the desired
behaviour:
>
> order by albums.year *desc*,albums.titlesort asc,albums.disc asc
> ->
> order by albums.year *asc*,albums.titlesort asc,albums.disc asc
>
but when I click "save", I get the following error in red letters
underneath the textbox: "Error: Error saving"

Any idea what might be wrong? My system is linux, could there be a
permissions issue with the directory where Custom Browse stores its
files?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC 7.3 version - beta trial

2009-01-09 Thread Sb42

I'm running SC Version: 7.3 - 24282 on Win/XP with Alien BBC
(v2.4a4-7.3) outside of the UK

I want to review programs from the BBC7 weekly archive, but when I
select the Day on the Squeezebox I get a message of 'EMPTY'

Alternately if I try to do the same using the Console I get a link to a
BBC webpage which opens a new browser window on my PC.

We used to be able to scroll through the BBC7 program lists, was this
removed or am I missing something in my setup?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Browse - error saving menu

2009-01-09 Thread erland

The probable cause is that this is a permission issue, Custom Browse
stores it files in the "Browse configuration directory" which you have
specified in the Custom Browse settings page. By default I think this
will be set to the same directory as the main SqueezeCenter playlist
directory.

Make sure the user that runs the SqueezeCenter process have write
permission to the above mentioned directory.

If that's not the problem, enable debug logging of
"plugin.custombrowse" in SqueezeCenter Settings/Advanced/Logging and
post the log after you've tried to save it.

The next version of Custom Browse will give you a bit more descriptive
error message that also shows why it wasn't able to save, for example
"Permission denied".

I certainly can't explain it. If pmi works, I'd say use it rather than
pm-utils. pmi, as a package, doesn't seem to exist for Fedora, which is

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC 7.3 version - beta trial

2009-01-09 Thread bpa

2.4a-7.3 works OK for me when I test BBC 7 -> Schedule->Fri 9th.

How many days get listed when you look at schedule ?

MY SC versin is latest 7.3.2 but that should be an issue since it is
AlienBBC which generates the list.

At a guess there is something wrong in your setup or else network is
timing out.

1. Stop SC. Delete alienbbc.opml file in your playlist or cache
directory and then restart SC.

2. Increase Settings/Advanced/Network Station Timeout.

The "Alternate Listen Again" uses the XML interface which is an
alternate way of retrieving the programs instead of using web interface
which can break. I think all that is missing now is "Categories".
