Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC 7.3 Linux no longer transcoding WMA (other work though)

2009-03-13 Thread bpa

You need to determine is the slowness in the server, the player or the
network/network processing. Also is it related to network
traffic/decode load due to using Flac.

When playing a stream WMA->Flac - Is menu traversing slow for all
players or just Softsqueeze ? If just Softsqueeze, is menu traversing
on a 2nd Softsqueeze (not playing) on another PC slow ?

When playing a stream WMA->MP3 ( disable use of WMA->Flac and WMA->WAV)
- is there any change to above behaviour ?

Have a look at the server log of "network.slimproto" and see if there
are bursts of messages at very short intervals (e.g. one per msec).

Hi Folks,

can anyone put me out of my misery. Does anyone else run with iTunes

anyone see the same issue as me or does it work for everyone else? I

So what about 7.2.1 broke when they moved to 7.3? Why can't Logitech fix

On a Mac, the Pulsar application (RogueAmoeba.com) works very nicely on

[SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes issues

2009-03-13 Thread giomania

Hi, I am fairly new to SqueezeCenter, so hopefully this is just a newbie
mistake. I performed some research, but I think I have a unique
problem.

I have a mixture of .WAV files ripped from CD's using iTunes, as well
as iTunes purchased music. The purchased tunes were recently all
upgraded to DRM-free 320 Kbps AAC files (.m4a). The issue is that I
cannot play the purchased music via the Squeezebox Receiver, while the
.WAV files play just fine.

Another small issue is that I cannot view the album artwork for the
.WAV files. I can see them just fine in iTunes, however.

Here is the detailed background on my setup:

I am running SC 7.3.2 beta on a Ready NAS connected via ethernet. I am
using the iTunes plug-in, as I ripped all my CD's via iTunes, and have
around 75 purchased iTunes music. The purchased music was recently
upgraded to DRM-free 320 Kbps AAC files (.m4a).

I have a Squeezebox Receiver connected via ethernet. I use only the
SPDIF (Coaxial) connection into a Denon AVP-A1HDCI.

I use an iPod Touch with the iPeng plug-in to access and control the
SBR.

Thanks for any input.

Mark

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes issues

2009-03-13 Thread tcutting

I don't have any real experience with iTunes integration, but here are a
few things to think about.
Did you re-scan your library after "upgrading" to the DRM-free AAC
files?
One issue may be that the AAC files need to be transcoded in your NAS
to the appropriate "native" format for the Squeezebox. It may be that
the NAS isn't properly configured for this conversion, or is not up to
the task in terms of processing capability.
In terms of the WAV files, you might consider transcoding to a
"compressed lossless" format - my understanding is that WAV doesn't
support all the tagging, and that might be the issue with the album
art. Also, WAV takes up about twice the space as a lossless-compressed
file. Normally I would recommend FLAC, but that isn't supported in
iTunes (as far as I know), so maybe the Apple lossless (ALAC?)... but
that's not natively supported in the SqueezeBox hardware, so you should
think about what's most important to your application.

Thansk for the input.

I re-scanned the SqueezeCenter after upgrading to the DRM-free AAC
files, but do not think I re-scanned iTunes. Which one were you
referring to?

According to what I saw, the SBR can pass through AAC files via SPDIF.
Is that not correct? Also, my AVP can decode them also, so that is
compatible.

Storage space is not an issue...hence the choice for .WAV.

If .WAV files cannot be tagged, would they still show up as listed by
Artist / Album / Song? They are being listed like that now, so I
assumed that was tagging added by iTunes.

Again, I am a newbie.

Thanks.

Tell me more about Lazy Search. Does "lazification" need to happen
every time you scan for new? Every time you clear & scan?

Any plugin can set and clear SrvrPowerCtrl blocks via the CLI without
having to worry about whether SrvrPowerCtrl is installed or not. If
SrvrPowerCtrl isn't there, the cli call is harmless and does nothing.

E.G.

Code:

  #Prevent untimely suspends, etc..
  my $blockcode = $client->execute(['srvrpowerctrl', 'setblock',
'reason_for_blocking', 'block_owner']);

  #my long running process...
  #...
  #...

  #Unblock suspends, etc...
  $client->execute(['srvrpowerctrl', 'clearblock', $blockcode, 'block_owner']);

Wrapping a long-ish process in those set & clear block cli requests
will prevent SrvrPowerCtrl from interrupting a process by shutting down
/ suspending / etc.

Cross posting for Stuart's benefit:

Any plugin can set and clear SrvrPowerCtrl blocks via the CLI without

E.G.

  my $blockcode = $client->execute(['srvrpowerctrl', 'setblock', $blockReason,

  #my long running process...
  #...
  #...

  #Unblock suspends, etc...
  $client->execute(['srvrpowerctrl', 'clearblock', $blockcode, $blockOwner]);

-- alternately, a stateless implementation:

Code:

  #Prevent untimely suspends, etc..
  $client->execute(['srvrpowerctrl', 'setblock', 'reason_for_blocking',
'viacli']);

  #my long running process...
  #...
  #...

  #Unblock suspends, etc...
  $client->execute(['srvrpowerctrl', 'clearblock', 'reason_for_unblocking',
'viacli']);

Wrapping a long-ish process in those set block & clear block cli
requests will prevent SrvrPowerCtrl from interrupting a process by
shutting down / suspending / etc. The calls have the added benefit
that, if SrvrPowerCtrl IS installed, the
"reason_for_blocking/unblocking" messages get displayed briefly on all
clients.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Classical.com will not connect

2009-03-13 Thread bpa

If classical.com is using WMA then it is probably a bug in Softsqueeze
which happens very frequently since 7.3.

To test if it is the Softsqueeze bug
1. Install lame if you have not already installed it and restart SC.
2. In WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes- disable Windows Media ->Flac
and disable Windows Media-> WAV. This should leave Windows Media -> MP3
enabled.
3. Try to play classical.com

Another thought.

I'm not sure if Classical.com is implemented on SC like Napster. If it
is then some changes may be needed to the conf file.

If you are using a Linux based SC with AlienBBC providing the
Softsqueeze WMA support then the changes are detailed here.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.70 (windows frontend)

2009-03-13 Thread indypants

DrLovegrove, I've just discovered Moose, and it absolutely wipes the
floor with SqueezeCenter - well done. I could kick myself for not
finding it sooner. Fantastic work.

If I was being greedy (and I am!), these two things would be high on my
wish-list for future improvements, and I'm sure they would win you even
more fans:

1) I'd love the ability to search for a list of words, and for those
words to be matched seperately in any order against any tag, including
comments and genre, and using a logical "AND". This is how Winamp's
media library works, and I know many people regard this as it's most
powerful feature (if only it could stream to the SB).

2) When searching, it would be really nice if the song results pane was
organised in exactly the same way as the now-playing panel - with the
same customisable columns. At the moment its hard to tell which of the
resulting songs are by which artists without individually selecting
them.

Once again, an excellent bit of software - please Keep it up.
I genuinely think this is the best thing that's happened to the
SqueezeBox.

It does work on my hardware squeezebox. Just not on SoftSqueeze.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Classical.com will not connect

2009-03-13 Thread bpa

My suggestion relates to Softsqueeze and a bug when playing WMA stream
which have to be transcoding to play on SOftsqueeze.

Disabling the WMA->Flac & WMA->WAV transcoding will not affect "Native"
for hardware player but will force transcoding into MP3 for Softsqueeze
which is a workaround for the Softsqueeze bug.

Everything for WMA is grayed out except for the native one. So I guess
they are disabled??

Classical.com is MP3, not WMA. It should work fine on Softsqueeze.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.70 (windows frontend)

2009-03-13 Thread paltomare

I too just discovered Moose, it is a big improvement over SC.

I am having difficulty in two areas.

First, I have about 4500 albums, I have Moose using my Slim database
but when it scans for albums it always stops at 2052 albums. Is that
Moose's limit?

Second, I cannot get all of my album art to display, in fact only about
10 albums do. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Any ideas anyone?
