Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Browse by Music Folder and erland's plugins

2009-03-25 Thread erland

Try to enable "info" level debugging of "plugin.customscan" in
SqueezeCenter Settings/Advanced/Logging and post the log after you've
entered a folder that took long time.

If SqueezeCenter generates rescan events when you browse new folders
this will trigger a full Custom Scan rescan operation. I had a look a
few weeks ago (in SC 7.3 or 7.4 (don't remember)) and it didn't look
like it generated these events in my own setup.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Browse by Music Folder and erland's plugins

2009-03-25 Thread wnshall

Lately I've noticed that when I Browse by Music Folder (from webUI,
squeezebox, or controller) that SC locks up for a variable amount of
time -- sometimes just 5-10s, sometimes 40-60s, and sometimes even
longer. I've noticed that mysqld gets kicked off and uses a fair bit
of CPU during this time. I use many of Erland's plugins (CB, Custom
Scan, SQL, Dynamic Playlist, Trackstat, Trackstat Playlist, Custom
Skip, Multi Library) and I recently updated a number of them, so I
wondered if they might be source of the delay.

I tried testing by disabling all of Erland's plugins and then adding
them in one at a time (stoping and restarting SC each time) and timing
Browse by Folder. It is a little tricky because whatever is getting
scanned in is being stored somewhere so that there is a delay only the
first time you browse to a folder (except that this must get
"forgotten" on the timescale of a day, because I discovered this
problem when I navigate to the same folder every couple of days.)
Because of this, during testing I navigated to 3 or 4 different, new
folders each time. I found that SC alone is quite snappy, less than 5
s for each folder. Adding SQL, ML, and CB produced just a slightly
longer delay, maybe as much as 10s. Adding Custom Scan produced a
range of longer delays, from 30 s to as much as 3 mins! (Although some
folders scanned in just 5 s -- and the delay doesn't seem to be
proportional to the number of sub-folders or files.) Under the Custom
Scan settings I set Custom Tag and Mixed Tag scanning to manual, which
improved the delay times. Adding Track Stat and Track Stat Playlist
(alone or with Custom Scan) also yielded moderate delays. So the
culprit seems to be something to do with Custom Scan and possibly Track
Stat.

Does anyone know whether it is typical for there to be a short delay
when browsing by Music Folder, should mysqld be running, and whether
the delays I'm experiencing are abnormal? Any ideas why Custom Scan
might be making these delays longer, and is there anything I can do
about it? Any insight would be appreciated.

(BTW running SC 7.2.1 on XP )

Err... You did find what? In your favorites??

iPeng 1.1 supports the "Random Play" feature but 1.0.5 doesn't. Or are
you talking about the "shuffle" mode on the NowPlaying screen or in the
Albums, Genres or track listings? The latter will only play the current
selection randomly.

But hopefully 1.1 will be out in a few days...

How many channels in your file ?

Have you disabled native Flac decoding and set up SC to do server based

tallpaul,
The AlienBBC is probably another issue which is associated Softsqueze

What version of SC are you running ?

I'm getting this too with some programmes from Alien BBC. For example
"Wake Up to Money" on Five Live which is 64kbps CBR, RTSP sounds like
Pinky and Perky. But then live streamed Radio 4, which is also reported
as 64kbps CBR, RTSP comes out fine!

Tis very odd.

It shouldn't need a refresh at all in this case, but I think I missed
this case in 2.6 so it seems to still do a refresh. I'll try to fix it
in a future version.

The duplicate creation of the database is just a cryptical log message.
In a large table the fastest way to delete all rows that are part of a
specific scanning module is to:
- Drop the table
- Recreate the table
- Fill the table with all the entries besides those you wanted to
remove

A "delete" statement with a "where" directive is a lot slower when the
table is large. It uses delete statements if less than 2 rows
should be deleted, with more than 2 rows it uses the drop+create
sequence described above.

So what you are seeing in the log is:
- At 19:19: It deletes the Custom Tag entries and then performs the
Custom Tag scanning for about 30 minutes
- At 19:53: It deletes the Mixed Tag entries and then performs the
Mixed Tag scanning for about an hour (which seems extremely slow). I
wonder if this would be faster if it was performed in smaller chunks.

There is no support for "new/changed" rescan in Custom Scan at the
moment.
I think it might be possible to implement "new/changed" rescan in
Custom Scan but it would require me to use internal api's which could
change at any time, so I don't think I like to do this, especially
since the scanning process in SqueezeCenter will change a lot in 8.0
which hopefully will make the Custom Scan plugin obsolete.

It's an attribute when you edit the "Tags" menu (or another menu based
on the Dynamic Mixed Tags template), you will find it in "SqueezeCenter
Settings/Plugins/Custom Scan/Manage menus".

Similar attributes also exists on the Mixed Tag menu template.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Looking for AlienBBC v1.6 (for ss6.5) for Linux

2009-03-25 Thread dborn

Until I move slimserver/squeezecenter onto an x86 computer, I am stuck

I am looking for the latest version of AlienBBC that runs on ss V6.5 (I
believe it is V1.6.x). On the developper's website, the links to this
version are dead (eventhough the pages describing the older versions
are still active). I did not find any contact info on this website
(thanks to spammers no doubt) so I'm turning to this forum for help.

I want to play some RealAudio radio streams from a local Montreal
station so I can ditch the alarm clock altogether and use my SB2 as my
alarm clock!

Thanks in advance,

[SlimDevices: Plugins] CustomScan: Needs optimization, seems to "waste" 54 minutes after SC rescan

2009-03-25 Thread Moonbase

Using SC 7.4-25680 and CustomScan 2.6, I observe what I think
unneccessary activity by CustomScan that seems to "waste" 54 minutes
after each SC rescan on my system here.

Yesterday, I did a complete "clear & rescan" in SC and could nail it
down a bit. Here’s what SC and CS do:

COMPLETE CLEAR & RESCAN ON 2009-03-24:

- 15:05 SC clear & rescan start
- 18:57 SC rescan finished
- 18:59 CS Syncing CS data start *
- 19:18 CS Syncing finished *
- 19:19 CS creating new database *
- 19:53 CS creating new database AGAIN
- 20:51 CS apparently finished but 100% CPU & mySQL activity starts,
  blocks SC completely (incl. playback)
- 21:09 CS really finished, SC responsive again

The whole rescan process took 6:04 hrs, 3:54 hrs for SC + 2:10 hrs for
CS. I think CS could save at least 54 minutes by omitting the steps
marked *, thus reducing CS time to 1:16 hrs and overall time to 5:10
hrs!

CS seems to unnecessarily do a resync after SC’s rescan has finished,
and -twice- creates a new database (at least that’s what the log
says).

-SERVER.LOG- EXCERPT:
-(attached, due to post size limits)-

MYSQL \"LONG QUERIES\" LOG EXCERPT:
-(attached, due to post size limits)-

This behaviour is also seen when only doing a "scan for new/changed
music".

Can anyone please confirm this?
Erland, any great ideas on how to speed this up?

Ahh -- thank you! My playlist folder was set to E:\Playists (can you
see the typo? :-)

Next time you're in the editor near that code, could you add a

He! :-)

Usually I try for Radio 4.

It's not an iPlayer issue. I get the same result with Radio 7 ASX feed
if accessed via More Radio..>Radio Feeds UK & Ireland > Browse UK Radio
by Genre > Children's > BBC Radio 7 (WMP) -
http://www.bbc..co.uk/radio/listen/live/r7.asx.

The feeds play fine on my laptop via Winamp/WMP etc, but not on my main
workstation. Both run XP Pro and Windows MediaPlayer 11. Both play all
non-BBC asx playlists with no problems.

And
I have Squeezecenter 7.4 on my laptop. I've connected a SD hardware
player to it and the BBC asx radio feeds play perfectly!

Conclusion: There is something in (or lacking in?) my main PC that is
stopping (just) the BBC asx feeds playing via both resident software
players and the resident Squeezecenter server.

This is perplexing.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] DVB Radio Add-on for Linux

2009-03-25 Thread anguston

This DVB solution sounds ideal for my requirements, however I have a
question. My squeezecenter machine is also used as a MythTV backend and
as such has a Dual DVB tuner. I'd like to use the same card to get DVB
radio to my squeezeboxes.

Is there anyway to share the same card? Obviously this would only work
if MythTV wasn't using the tuner. But i rarely record two channels at
the same time, although would like the option to.

Also, if i'm listening to the radio and MythTV is scheduled to record
something then i'd like it to take control of the the tuner and not
miss the recording, even if this results in loss of radio.

What do you think my chances of getting this to work are?

Thanks,
