Very interesting Pippin. So does this mean from the next release iPeng
will have similar functionality to do what Squeeze Mobile currently
does? I have downloaded Squeeze Mobile onto by iPhone 3GS but still have
not got it working properly.

I look forward to the next release. Have you any approximate release
date? I guess I will need to transcode my FLAC files into MP3 for it to
work?

I use the touch cover art to play feature but I can also see that this
could be confusing for new users.

I use the touch cover art function all the time and would miss it if it
was to be removed.

For those unintentionally trashing playlists with the function an
option to turn it off would help. I personally would instead like it if
you, pippin, could address this feature request you yourself made quite
some time ago: https://trac.penguinlovesmusic.de/trac/ipengnat/ticket/55
(Add Undo for anything that clears the playlist) An option to restore
the last playlist would help, I think.

By fancy test kit I probably meant your 'digital storage

oscilloscope using a comm port or similar?

did some more tests.. highering the gap and macro_interval works..i can
make the interval between pulses longer.
But i can't get them lower then 98ms even with gap 0 and
MACRO_INTERVAL=20 it's still 98ms.

So i think thats a limitation of the controllers timer function.
maybe it's possible to force timings lower then 100ms not to use the
timer function and time them by program execution time...

i use a rigol 1042cd digital scope like the image i attached.
but there are also software scopes that use your soundcard as an
input..
thats fast enough for doing this..
like http://www.zeitnitz.de/Christian/scope_en

just connect a generic receiver tsop1738 to +5v and your soundcard
input , and i must be possible to get the same pictures..

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Beta: Weather-Screensafer for Controller/Radio/Touch

2010-01-02 Thread bluegaspode

This is very strange !
Mine is working again (without changes from my side).

I was inbetween analyzing the problem, all I could see in the logs was,
that my Controller tried to connect to mysqueezebox.com (without
success) all the time and that it looked like it didn't get any response
from wonderground.

As soon as the errors for mysqueezebox.com disappeared, the
weather-applet started to work again.

So I think that due to connection problems to MySB.com the controller
somehow lost its ability to connect to other sources (like wonderground)
?

I just don't know :(

I suggest to reboot your Controller/Radio/Touch first (long press on
the power button). Then try the Screensafer again.

If you still have problems post again and I'll explain how you can
retrieve log-files which will help analyzing the problem.

Hi,

I have recently set up squeezescrobbler and it seemed to be working
fine, but without audio. From another thread I found that you have to go
to the squeeze server settings in the web control panel, select the
player tab, select audio from the drop down menu (defaults to basic
settings), change MP3 streaming method to proxied streaming.

This fixed my audio problem.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster Volume granularity

2010-01-02 Thread gdpeck

Hi,
I am using IR Blaster with an SB3 to control NAD receiver. I use a mix
of iPeng, SB3 IR remote, and Squeezebox Radio to control this SB3
receiver combination. The SB3 volume is fixed at 100, and I send volume
up and volume down commands to the NAD receiver. I'm using an lirc file
and none of the commands are learned. The problem I am having is that
the volume control is too coarse. So one tap of the volume up or volume
down increases or decreases the volume too much. I'm thinking that the
IR command is simply being blasted at the receivers IR port for too
long. Is there a way to set a shorter duration? Would learning the
volume up/down commands from my NAD remote help?

Thanks!
George

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: KidsPlay 2.4.0: per-player button macros

2010-01-02 Thread Marc

Peter,

I'm trying to do some testing here, but am a bit confused.

I've been struggling with just trying to get a playlist to play via
kidsplay macro and not had success (never tried the 'playlist play'
syntax with the prior version).

I've got a couple of itunes playlists that show up at the SBS web GUI
and play fine on the Radio if requested from there. I could not
originally get them to play after connecting to the server CLI and using
playlist play playlistname, but I finally figured out (I think) that I
had to resave them at the GUI to make them accessible that way due to
some glitch in the way itunes playlist integration works. Once I did
the resave (wish SBS would just resave the itunes playlists
automatically after every itunes rescan) then I could play them directly
from the CLI using playlist play playlistname.

The same exact command doesn't seem to work from kidsplay, though. I
know the macro is getting executing because the display text is showing
up at the Radio, but the playlist shows as empty. This behavior is the
same whether I try defining the operation from a player specific macro
or from a global macro.

Interestingly (at least to me), when I do a 'playlist play
playlistname' directly at the CLI, the CLI itself seems to add the
default playlist directory for SBS to the front of the playlistname when
it responds (and the playlist starts playing at the Radio).

Any clue about what's going on?

Marc

Your SQL works in my 7.4.1 installation and I get different tracks
every time.

You don't have a Custom Skip filter active that skip all but 10 tracks
?

I suppose you have already checked the server.log file and there isn't
any errors in it ?

I think I added a and dynamicplaylist_history.client='PlaylistPlayer'
to my playlists that looks similar to your at some time, you can try if
it works better if you add that. If you have multiple players in your
system there is a risk your current playlist will skip tracks played in
a playlist on the other player, so if the other player has played most
tracks in the library this SQL would return the same tracks all the
time.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2010-01-02 Thread MillmoorRon

I don't have any Custom Skip filters active and I only have one player
(SB3) on my system. The new version of the SQL also does the same
thing.

Database query tells me:
Number of 4 star rated songs1576

If I do a Custom Browse of songs of specific rating the first 10 tracks
are indeed the ones that the SQL returns. These are also the ones I have
rated SINCE installing the new system and importing my old Track Stat
backup!

If I change the SQL to return more than 10 it does appear as though the
other tracks are random. Very Odd.

Does this give you any clues as to what is amiss?

Could you run the SQL with Database Query and add
track_statistics.rating to the shown result ?

It could possibly be that you have enabled automatic ratings which will
increase the rating when you completely play a song. In this case there
might be 86 in the database but it's still shown as a 4 start rating and
another track might have 85 in the database and also shown as a 4 star
rating. If there are exactly 10 tracks with the top rating number in the
database this might explain the behavior.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2010-01-02 Thread MeSue

Hi Pippin,

This is probably a rare use case, but I thought I'd ask about it. My
iTouch is jailbroken and I usually keep iPeng running in the background
when I am at home. I've noticed some games and other apps make volume
changes which makes my Squeezeboxes change volume if iPeng is running in
the background. Also sometimes I'll want to change the app volume
manually, and that changes volume on the Squeezeboxes, too.

Enabling the volume buttons is a good feature for iPeng, but not so
good when it's running the background. Can you think of any workaround?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2010-01-02 Thread MillmoorRon

Not sure exactly how to do the first thing, but I exported my TrackStat
backup and looked at the offending tracks and they do have ratings of 81
or 82!

I do have automatic rating enabled however I have the percentage
increase/decrease set at 0. Maybe these few tracks were played whilst I
was still setting everything up?

Could I edit my SQLs to select 'rating=x' rather than 'as top rated'
to get round this problem.

Thanks very much for your speedy help - I was worried that I'd
corrupted 3 years of trackstat data!

You have the following choices as I see it:
1. Add the following to the SQL: and track_statistics.rating=80 and
change order by track_statistics.rating desc,rand() to order by
rand()
2. Change order by track_statistics.rating desc,rand() to something
like order by floor((track_statistics.rating+10)/20)*20,rand()
3. Set the rating manually with IR remote, Controller or web interface.
This will change the 81 and 82 ratings to 80.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Replacement plugins for AlienBBC

2010-01-02 Thread bpa

For x86 Linux based systems - users can add WMA lossless and WMA Pro
support on x86 Linux based SBS by installing a Windows library on their
Linux system. Installing a Windows library on a Linux may be illegal so
it is left to the user.

1. Install PlayWMA plugin
2. Install mplayer
3. Find a copy of wma9dmod.dll either on your Windows system or via
Google. Save it in the library defined by your mplayer build (on Ubuntu
it is /usr/lib/win32 or /usr/local/lib/win32). Make sure permissions and
ownership is correct.
4. replace the PlayWMA plugin custom-convert.conf by the attached file
making sure to rename it to custom-convert.conf
5. Restart SBS and test.

As the Windows library is a 32 bit x86 library, this method will not
work on non x86 system or possibly on 64 bit Linux kernel.

The conf file is setup to resample 48kHz file to 44.1kHz.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] scpowertool --hibernate not working

2010-01-02 Thread Phil Meyer
I use Server Power Control to Suspend or Hibernate my server from players.

This has been working well for a long time, but recently Hibernate hibernates
my server, but then immediately wakes up.

Suspend still works - it suspends until I send a WOL (or it gets close to alarm
time).

I've tried manually performing scpowertool.exe --hibernate in a console
window, and get the same effect - server hibernates, but then immediately wakes
up.

If I hibernate via Windows, it stays hibernated.

Any ideas?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] I cant get past number 10

2010-01-02 Thread Pluganator

nstalling Squeezebox Server on FreeNAS is easy following these few
steps:

1. Set up FreeNAS on your box. There's good documentation available
in different languages.
2. Download Squeezebox Server from the Logitech web site in the
Perl Source Code flavour. If you're downloading a nightly build, then
take the bulky Unix Tarball or the smaller FreeBSD build.
3. Get the latest SlimNAS distribution.
4. Get the SlimNAS installation script.
5. Create a share (Mount Point) following the FreeNAS
instructions, make it available through the protocol of your choice
(CIFS/SMB for Windows).
6. Open the above share, create a sub folder slimnas and copy all
three files in there.
7. Make sure the SlimNAS file is called slimnas.tgz (rename it if
needed)
8. Go to the FreeNAS administration web page.
9. Open Advanced/Command
10. Execute /bin/sh /mnt/YourShareHere/slimnas/slimnas-install.sh -
this will take a few seconds (or minutes...)

When I run the command line I see the box with $ /bin/sh
/mnt/data/slimnas/slimnas-install.sh but nothing else happens any
Ideas?

2010-01-02 Thread AHodsdon

Question: What do you think about quot;touch-to-play-albumquot; for
cover art in iPeng?

- I use this and like it.
- I don't use this and it disturbs me
- I don't care

Thanks for bringing this up, Pippin.

I've frequently had my playlists destroyed, which can be pretty
frustrating. Most of the time, though, it's *not* the touch cover to
play that does it. Instead, it's when I'm selecting individual tracks
and I don't hold my finger down long enough to bring up the contextual
menu. The most frustrating thing is that I almost never want the
immediately change track behavior.

In my ideal world, there'd be a setting that made add to playlist
*always* be the default option. In other words, you'd need to use the
contextual menu to get iPeng to immediately play the track (and destroy
the playlist). This would happen at the track level and also at the
touch cover to play level.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] scpowertool --hibernate not working

2010-01-02 Thread gharris999

Try using the task manager or the sysinternals process explorer to make
sure there are no spurious SCPowerTool.exe instances hanging around in
the background.

If there aren't any, then, no, I'm not sure what's going on here.
SrvrPowerCtrl's hibernation via SCPowerTool.exe is working just fine
with my Windows 7 64bit machine.

I was seeing something like this with the same machine when I had Vista
64bit on it. The machine wouldn't stay powered down! Suspend would
keep the machine asleep, but a straight power-down or hibernation
wouldn't. I never did figure out what was going on.

This problem went away when I wiped the system and installed Windows 7.
And since a straight hibernation via windows works for you, I doubt you
have the same problem I did.

How about the sysinternals psshutdown.exe utility? Does psshutdown.exe
-h keep your system hibernated?

What version of windows are you using?

When I register your repository per your first post, your applet does
not appear in the list -- hence I cannot use the applet installer to
install it. I manually scp'd the files over and it worked fine -- but
I'm wondering why adding your repository didn't do anything. I had this
same problem much earlier with SuperDateTime not showing up either after
adding the repo to the repository (when the extension downloader just
came out), but that was so many releases ago I don't think they're
related.

I'm using a Radio with the latest 7.4.2 SBS.
