Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2010-08-03 Thread danco

That's not an issue. You can write a similar script to turn Jiggler off,
and set the on-idle behaviour to run that script. Then all that happens
on idle is that control is passed back to Energy Saver. Or your script
could just do nothing, and leave Jiggler running if you wanted.

I also use the PowerSave plugin that turns my Squeezebox off when it's
not been used for a certain length of time.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2010-08-03 Thread danco

It's a touch confusing, as the on-idle and not-idle interfaces are
different.

For a not-idle script, you give the full path to the script in the
obvious place.

For an on-idle script, you go to the Custom Commands at the bottom,
give a name to the command and the full path to the script you want.

Then (I can't recall if you have to stop and restart Squeezebox Server,
in addition to clicking Apply, but it can't harm) in the on-idle
selection (and anywhere that there is a menu of scripts) your named
scripts will appear in the menu to be chosen.

Can you play AAC streams such as http://www.somafm.com/illstreet32.pls
on your Boom / Classic ?

If not then your SBS is unable to transcode AAC streams which is the
default format for Listen Again. IN this case either fix the SBS or
disable AAC in iPlayer plugin.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2010-08-03 Thread hvb83

C'mon guys, we're talking about a $10 app here, that was working at the
time it was bought. A $2 app probably doesn't use as many and as
complicated functions as iPeng does and probably many apps didn't need
to be changed again in order to work under iOs4. Most of those
developers probably have just send the file to Apple again, just for
the iOs4-approved badge. In iPeng a lot of functions are being used,
one of them was bound to stop working.

Comparing it to a $80+ app isn't fair either, as those guys probably
have a 10+ development team.

I'm not saying an update fixing the issue should not have been released
by now. But in all fairness, the alarm setting function isn't it's main
feature, most users probably use iPeng for what it was designed: as a
controller for your music collection.

>From what I've seen from an email I send Pippin in the past and in his
replies on forum boards, he is very serious about providing proper
support. If you have a look at this topic, 90% of the questions could
easily have been found by using the search function. In many cases it
is Pippin who is providing answers. Seems he is a bit of a
perfectionist, which isn't nice when you're waiting for a new release,
but at the same time iPeng probably wouldn't have been designed to the
level it is already. Other apps simply need more updates as they aren't
being tested as much and have more anoying bugs during everyday use.
With that I'm not saying iPeng is bug-free (a simple look at the bug
tracker will show this is not true), but in everyday use you probably
won't find as many things that are off in comparison to many other
applications with this level of complexity.

In 80 apps I bought the past 2 years, I probably removed 70 of them
after a few weeks and only 3 of the remainder I use every day, one of
them being iPeng. Not only because it's very useful, but also because
it works like a charm. Even my girlfriend uses it without compaints,
which does account for something.

That said, I understand your frustration about the $10 price and the
lack of updates, as it's a heck of a lot for a app that sets your
alarm. ;)

Changing the stream has fixed the Listen Again streams, and I can't

is not doing transcoding...

Yes NAS is not set up to do transcoding of AAC stream. You need at
least 7.5.3 for SBS supplied transcoding. Since it is not a Logitech
supported platform, I'm not sure about your NAS will have the
appropriate version of faad.

Take a look at the Database Query plugin, it allows you to export stuff
to comma separated files, flat XML or structured hierarchical XML. I'm
not completely sure there is a template for playlists but if there
isn't it should be fairly easy to make one. You might be able to do it
yourself if you know some SQL and XML, but if you need help just let me
know.

The Album Catalog Creator tool might also be of interest if you want a
bit nicer reports, I'm not completely sure if it supports listing
contents of playlists.

I'm not sure it is going to work on 10.4. At present the bits I have
built are for 10.5 only (which I can change), but I also see you get
error from libspotify which I can't.

If you want to PM me your email address I can try to send you a 10.4
version of the two binaries I build. But I am not sure this will work
if libspotify is also creating errors.

a new template for playlists. If you find that Album Catalog Creator
cover your needs, I'll just put a playlist template on the todo list
for some future release of Database Query plugin.

Also, Database Query are missing some links in the Default skin, so to
be able to create new queries(reports) you need to temporary use the
Classic skin to make the "Create new data query" link in the Database
Query plugin menu accessible.

It's more random, that's for sure. It's much faster when I launch it. I
have my music on a Syno DS209+II, and when I launched random mix in
squeezebox server 7.4.2, the system froze 4-5 seconds.

It's also faster and better when skipping through tracks. All tracks
are listed. With my squeezebox only the next 100 tracks was listed.

simple option for it. Sometimes i switch between external ip (when i am
not within wifi range) and sometimes its on local ip 192.168.x.x range.
I believe that if you switch between the 2 it will ask you if you want
to move the players too. (while its basicly the same source) thats how
i lost my players once, and that happened with mysqueezebox too :)

I know you can get them back and all, but the more WAF factor the
better.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2010-08-03 Thread pippin

Well, the next iPeng release currently under rewiev by Apple will at
least make sure you (and your GF) will find the players since it
automatically switches servers if a player has moved (there is an
option to turn THAT off).
Now maybe you should give your library a nice, distinguishable Name and
just tell your Gf that's where she has to click if she wants your/her
music.
Mine just decided to only ever use Napster since she discovered that
one: too simple :)

Thanks Danco.

I think I have this working - but only by replacing the Hibernate
instruction (which I probably won't use much) with a call to the stop
jiggler script. Then I set action on idle to be hibernate. What I
couldn't find is where and how to create a custom command or script.
Any suggestions where I need to look.

Thanks

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2010-08-03 Thread shawje

Update - It's preventing sleep beautifully. Unfortunately it's not
letting the mac go back to sleep when it becomes inactive.

I have two scripts - jigstart.sh which is called when not idle and
which starts jiggler. Jigstop.sh stops jiggler and is used as the
hibernate command - so srvrpwrcontrol is told to hibernate when idle.

Jiggler starts beautifully when expected. It stops beauttifully when
expected. Unfortunately jigstart is then called again for no obvious
reason and seemingly called every minute thereafter. Presumably
srvrpwrcntrl thinks a player is active for some reason, despite having
previously decided that it was inactive. I've posted the server logs
below. Thanks for any suggestions.

As I've posted above, I'm sitting on a sailboat in the Adriatic, seven
time zones away from my squeezeboxes and servers. I'd like to be able
to help here, but my brain is too addled from too much sun, seafood and
vino. I'll try to put some serious effort into ReallyPreventStandby
when I'm back home in October.
