I finally found, on checking both systems side by side that the mixed
tag menus I set up on the new machine have one critical difference from
those on the old machine - there is a drop down list to select a library
which is available on the old that is missing on the new. As far as I
know everything was set up the same way, in fact when I copied the xml
for a menu on the old machine to the new, the option to specify the
library which was present on the old menu config disappeared.

Can anyone give me any clues?
The identities of the Multi Library libraries can change when you
reinstall, if this happens you need to adjust the menus so they point to
the right library.
If you have already done this and it didn't solve it, could you post or
mail me the xml files for your configuration so I can take a look at how
you have configured it ?

Also check the server.log file for errors, you will find its location in
LMS Settings/Advanced/Logging. I noticed yesterday that one of my web
servers had been down for a while without me noticing it and it caused
some problems for people who used the Download last version of ...
link which is available in most of my plugins in the LMS web interface,
but if this is the problem you should see a lot of error messages in the
server.log saying something like Failed to parse configuration...

It's still available, you just have to setup the alpha repository URL in
LMS Settings/Plugins:

Code:

http://erlandplugins.googlecode.com/svn/repository/trunk/alpha.xml

However, I agree that it has issues, that's why it's an alpha version
and not an official release.
We will see what happens in the future, if LMS gets maintained also on
longer terms I'll probably try to finish it and make an official release
but for the moment my primary focus is on 'ickStream'

I have to say I avoid such scanning too often during the day if I can,
since they now take around 3 hours.

For this reason, I've been wondering if hacking LMS itself to scan
additional tags would be more productive.

LMS 7.7 have a scanner API which can be used to hook into the scanner
and perform incremental scanning in same way as standard LMS scanner
does. This is what I'm using in the alpha version of Custom Scan.

Patching LMS might sound easy, but it's a mess to keep them updated with
new LMS versions and it's pretty complex for people to install them.
It's especially problematic for Windows users where it means that users
can use the standard Logitech distribution for Windows, they need to use
the perl distribution and install ActiveState perl separately. If we
only had to handle Linux and OSX it would be possible to make it easy to
install, but it's still problematic to keep it updated when Logitech
releases a new build. Remember that many people on this forum who would
use the patch are also using nightly builds, so they would basically
have to reinstall the patch every night when a new build is published by
Logitech.

Hi Erland - thanks for the reply. As it happens, I do run on Linux and
I'm also pretty good with Perl. I've been kind of assuming that 7.7.2 is
the end of the line when it comes to officially supported builds, but I
guess I should never say never.

Please would you recap what the issues are with the Alpha scanner (or
point me to a thread)?

Many thanks.

I believe Logitech (mainly mherger) is still committing changes now and
then and there are new nightly builds published, maybe not every night
but at least a few times per month. I personally suspect we might get a
7.7.3 eventually but an official 7.8 release is probably unlikely to
happen unless Logitech decides to start selling Squeezebox hardware
again or wants to shutdown mysqueezebox.com (I believe TuneIn in 7.8
isn't dependent on mysqueezebox.com).

I don't remember the exact details, it was some time since I worked on
it, but this is the thread where the alpha version of Custom Scan was
discussed:

far it's been solid.

i did notice that if you have any old protect itunes tracks (.m4p) that
this seems to trip the plugin up when it encounters them.
