The portion of the log you posted doesn't really have what I'd like to
see.
Most common problem is something isn't entered right, or missing, for
the API Key or the weatherstation you want to use. The latest version
allows the weatherstation to be specified by US Zip Code, Airport Code,
or wunderground weatherstation ID. There is a "switch" now on the
settings page to select how you are specifying the weather station you
are using. You also need a valid API key from weatherunderground.com

A good test is to turn on debug for the SDT Plugin (go to your LMS web
page, go to Settings, then the Advanced tab, and pull-down to the
"Logging" selection, find "(plugin.superdatetime) - SuperDateTime
Screensaver" and change to "Debug" and apply. Monitor the server log
(go to the Information tab of the Server Settings page, and select one
of the links next to Server Log File). Look for a line which has the
http: call from SDT (should look something like:+

15-10-31 20:38:45.9847] Plugins::SuperDateTime::Plugin::getWunderground
(2968) async request:
http://api.wunderground.com/api/xxx/conditions/forecast10day/astronomy/almanac/hourly/lang:EN/q/90501.json

Copy the complete http: address (everything from "http://"; through the
end of the line), and paste into the address of a web browser. It
should return text information for all of the weather information in
.json format.

Bottom line, make sure you entered your API key correctly, and you've
correctly selected your weatherstation.

If you continue to have problems, I can send you my email address so you
can provide a more complete log file.

max2play as url doesn't work. I do not why, but in the end I found out
what the mac address was.

So, now I have a fixed ip address and it works. Thanks for your

One question: On my server I have 63500 songs. When scanning squeezebox
server hangs around 32500 songs and doesn't go further.
Any thoughts about that?

http://max2play in the browser should bring up the web GUI.

I'd leave the fixed IP until you have got it all set up and working

About Windoews I am only going on what other users have posted - I
haven't dealt with WIndows.

I said it is hard to pin down.

LMS has its own DNS lookup and caching which is different code to
ffmpeg's so differences would not be unusual. The problem with HLS is
that different segments are on different servers each one requires a DNS
lookup. If the read request gets delayed - LMS buffer gets depleted
perhaps just by 0.1sec at a time.

LMS is using a single core and its own version of multithreading - a
"select" loop (i.e. LMS looks at all I/O request that are ready and
picks one) - however I don't know whether LMS is treating DNS request
differently to others such as audio or slimproto. If a processing task
such as plugin hogs processing and doesn't let LMS back to "select" loop
- I/O are not handled. ffmpeg is properly multihreaded (i.e. if running
on a mulitcore CPU there are more scheduling options) and ffmpeg could
makes overlapped HLS network requests for audio so there is more leeway
to recover from delays.

I did see some posts about that, but how does it fit with:

Rebuffering only occurs on Boom and not Radio (both using the same
  server)
Using 'ffmpeg' to handle HLS eliminates the problem

For the 2nd point, if it was a DNS caching issue, wouldn't you expect
both HLS implementations (iPlayer, ffmpeg) to have the same problem?

Yes, the Name Resolution service caches DNS results for far too long.
But that's on Windows running as a DNS client, I have no idea what extra
issues the Windows DNS Server might cause. The client issue is easy to
fix, permanently disable the Name Resolution service (I think I have the
name right) but be aware all DNS lookups now go out to the DNS server
your router gives out in it's DHCP response. I point that at a Raspberry
Pi running dmsmasq so that I have local site caching in my house, but
without Windows doing any of it.

Wasn't there a Windows specific issue about Windows caching DNS info for
too long ?

I'm not disagreeing with your method to minimise rebuffering - just that
the underlying cause of the problem was not detailed.

The rebuffering is a difficult problem to pin down and as a result ther
has been no defintive solution. I'm outside the UK so with lower data
rates the issue is not as prevalent but when it starts happening I have
tried multiple tests and added instrumentation to LMS and AFAICT LMS
handling of DNS requests for BBCiPlayer plugin has some sort of problem
when compared to ffmpeg doing the same DNS request on the same stream
resulting in the plugin missing a segment. With live streams LMS can
only buffer a few seconds of audio by delaying audio start. Once the
live stream has started playing with each segment missed this buffer is
depleted until you get rebuffering which is effectively stop and start
the stream again. The rebufferiing is not as noticeable with Listen
Again since whole p[rogram is available it is possible to refill the
buffer while audio is playing in realtime

Sure - I wasn't trying to imply that the transcoding load was being
decreased, just that there was one less process in the pipeline (i.e.
using AAC -> FLAC, both faad and flac were used in conjunction, whereas
with AAC -> MP3, I only saw one FAAD process running). I guess the
processing load would be similar, but I was just trying to determine
whether any of the codecs in the pipeline were causing the issue... so
by removing one factor (i.e. the separate flac binary), it seemed
useful.

Maybe I should have specified - I'm running this on a Core i7-4770 with

This is on Windows Server 2012 R2.

For DNS, I'm using the Windows Server DNS service which relays to my ISP

And, I'm afraid, I need a little help for doing this on LMS running on a
Netgear ReadyNAS. Presume I just have to use FTP to connect, and then
update the .PM file. But what credentials do I use for the FTP
connection?

So pleased there's a resource to come to every time the BBC break our
squeezeboxes

The post is good but can be misleading in places.. The above point
about MP3 is wrong - if you disbale Flac then LMS would transcode AAC to
MP3 so you are not eliminating any transcoding processing.

ffmpeg and faad use the same encoding library - just that ffmpehg can
handle http/

The issue is not really about faad transcoding but about processing time
and time available to handle DNS while dealing with other LMS stuff.
The main problem with the rebuffering is due to DNS and there are some
fixes specific to this. You didn't say whether you are using Window or
not and I believ there are specific DNS fixes to help Windows users.

LMS is coded to run on a single core - it will only use another core is
when a subprocess is created such as for transcoding (faad, flac,
ffmpeg, lame).

This means LMS has to deal with playing audio as well has HLS decode and
DNS lookups - so the basic speed of the system will matter. Offloading
HLS processing to ffmpeg means moving the HLS and DNS lookups to a
second core and even on a single core (e.g Raspberry Pi) it is a second
process and so can be scheduled separately.

Okay I want to apply this patch, but I have no idea how to do it. I run
LMS in to Linux environments Max2Play and Vortexbox, so no windows type
GUI and I am a complete numpte at Linux commands!
Where in the directory structure is the file that needs to be replaced?
Given time I can probably hack my way through the Linux commands
necessary to do it, but any help with pointers on how to do that would
be much appreciated.
Thanks
