Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: UPnPBridge = integrate UPnP/DLNA players with LMS (squeeze2upnp)

2015-11-25 Thread philippe_44

Hi - I'm thinking about release 0.2.6.0 but I've made numerous small
changes and correction here and there, some being inspired by the
mistakes I discovered while developping the Chromecast Bridge. I've done
tests, but this starts to be a lot of burden for me to try all
permutations and combinations and some help would be greatly appreciated
as I'd like to avoid releasing a problematic version. Here is the list
of changes I've made, and if some of you could be brave enough to test
this -dev-14, use it normally, maybe try some of the new features and
report back, I would be very grateful. I'm looking for problem around
pausing, repositioning, playlist automatic move to next track. There is
no change around audio format management.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/lms-to-upnp/files/dev/repo-sf.xml

Thank you

Features
- Volume changes on remote are detected and forwarded back to LMS
- 'volume curve' is not used any more, but the build-in LMS gain
- Add to start playing automatically on power on
- Enable icy metadata (streaming radio title changes) for players that
support it
- add to control usage of icy metadata
- Use remote artwork when available instead of coverid
- add option to authorize players to close/re-open
connection on pause and seek through byte
- UPnP event subscription is now used (for Volume), so now device is
not removed as long as subscription is auto renewed, even if it UPnP
discovery is missed

Correction
- Artwork was not set when LMS server address was not discovered (when
set explicitely in XML config file)
- Server was not discovered ip:port set in XML config file, so the
version could be missed and aiff bug workaround (7.7 vs others) would
not work
- now forces a proper 'stop' of the UPnP player (was
a pause that did not always work before)
- in Linux the mutex timeout for sq_open could be set wrong creating an
long lock for player requesting the same file times (concurrent HTTP
GET)
- When receiving on/off, do not force a STOP anymore
- Remove parameter (was unused)
- Remove parameter and replace it by SetMute function

- (P) update some strings
- (P) add ICY metadata option
- (P) set log lines to 1000
- (P) add byte_seek option
- (P) link to log, config and guide were potentially system-wide
conflicting

Unfortunately I'm out in the countryside and I don't have any true
Squeezebox hardware players here, so I will not be able to test it. But
I'll have to try it some more with CCA - so far, every song I've tried
using "Song Mix" for, has come up with "No Item", so I doubt that it's
the songs that are obscure... But I will test some more.

This can make the server busy . How many tracks total is it when you hit

My two penn'orth.

I've been a BBC listener through LMS for ten years and have to thank
you, Triode and the many other contributors who have made this a great
pleasure over the years. The two new experimental plug-ins are working
fine for me.

Wind back is not something I'm missing at the moment. My connection has
always been rock solid and I'm a dyed in the wool traditionalist who
likes to either listen to programmes when they're on the wireless or a
day or two later if I miss them. It is however a feature that is coming
in on not only web based players but also things like Sky TV Movies
too.

If you do a full release, and you're in agreement I think you should ask
Triode if he minds you taking over the main BBC iPlayer plugin with
suitable accreditation to him and the other contributors.

It doesn't seem to be a CCA specific problem.

The same tracks that fail to create a mix for CCA also fail for
Squeezeboxen.

Likewise those tracks that are able to create a mix for Squeezeboxen,
can do so for CCA.

This is true for me with phone/app and LMS webgui.

These would fall into a mod to the Extras where user can play a program
from "today" schedule which has started within the last two hours.

Just play a track, if you've ticked "Don't stop the music" as in picture

As most of us are Squeezebox users I don't think many use the BBC web

demand for the feature.

I often start listening to a program after it has started, so I think
skip back to the start/a few minutes would be a useful feature.

You have done all of these for the Radio !

If you are so keen on the cricket/football/tennis etc. - you'd have
already been listening on car radio, on fm radio or internet radio on

As I see it - these all come skip back a few minutes maybe 10 max.

You can find out when artwork is being request by enabling logging for
artwork and artwork.imageproxy. I assumed when you cleared cache.db you
cleared the artwork.db file as well.

Personally I think I can live with a device that plays all the streams I

I am looking for opinion on how it could be used, whether it really is
useful and also whether useful functionality could be implemented within
the constraints of the present UI. I only use live playback on TV to
replay a few minutes so I'd like to be informed of the real "use cases"

Once the DASH version of the plugin is "released" then this question

The xml feeds that are being used (e.g.

they've got schedule information going into the future. I though

Only Extra has the "Live" program schedule - so that could be done off

Is one very useful use case of this is listen-again before the program
has finished? A lot of shows (particularly radio 3 concerts) last a long
time, so it is a nuisance if you missed the start and have to wait until
it ends and shows up as a listen again url. Since the schedule is known,
this could be implemented to look like normal listen again - just that a
seek beyond the current time will fail.

The layman that I am, thinks this is really intended as a "missed the

on the web based iPlayers.

On the freesat and freeview boxes this has always been present as a 2hr

Agree with you entirely that menus/layout should be top level. The icons
changed due to the disabling of the code rather than the menu change.
It's no big deal and was more tongue in cheek as I happen to prefer
those icons but radio is for listening after all!

There is a feature of BBC DASH live streams I'm scared to consider
because I think the UI implications are very involved and would affect
all UIs - make it really hard to test.

For live streams BBC support 2hrs playback - AFAICT playing any live
stream can be told to start up to 2hrs earlier. Intended use is "live
playback" to say go back 15 mins and listen to somehting again. This
feature overlaps with "Listen Again" so I'm not sure whether the effort
to implement it is worthwhile as not many people would use it.

The UI issue is that on LMS the time is usually "live" with an elapsed
clock on left or a duration bar where position is indicated. Live
Playback would require somehting like a 2hr duration bar but marker
always at RHS except when user pushed back.

This conversation epitomises why I want to disconnect menu updates
/variations from plugin updates. Plugin updates should be for bug
fixing, feature enhancements and "protocol" changes. Making it easier
to change menu layout/update URLs although it will still require an LMS
restart due to caching could reduce postings. User could also create
and share different layouts (e.g. UK only, National live and Listen

Probably too complicated, but I'd like to see a setting which changes
the menu display to show either UK or Non-UK Live (not both). It's too

I actually updated the world_service url's in the menu.opml that bpa is
now using here - those are in the same form as the other radio station
urls rather than the rather odd ones that had been used previously.
These are 96kbps rather than the previous 64kbps, and there are actually
separate uk and nonuk urls that both work. They are both the same
bitrate though and seem to play the same thing AFAIKT.

I included the different URL for uk world service on DASH as well just
in case it does turn out to play different uk-only content. It does look
to be valid, and returns a good dash .mpd (index) file. It's just that
the stream data fetches return a 503 code saying "The server is
temporarily unable to service your request. Please try again later.".
So I thought it might start working soon - and this is a test version,
after all. But maybe it won't ever work...

So yes, to avoid this confusion it is probably best to use the nonuk URL
in the uk section for now.

I'm not sure what the BBC are doing - I suspect the World Servcie HLS
and DASH are mainly test . The official list of feed only includes a
MP3 feed to Worldservice whereas HLS is listed for all other stations.
This ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/imda/imda_transports.xml ) used to
be the "official" list for vendors before IMDA disbanded but it is
still maintained

If I'm not mistaken the same URL was used for both UK and nonUK with the

The typical use is to add some playlists to the queue. I use both my own
playlists created with playlist generator, and som playlists from
Tidal(former Wimp).
Sounds like I have to do an update of my LMS version and see if this
solves the problem.

Thanks. I am in the uk. Will have a go at tuning to a non-uk version.

If you are in the UK then this is a known problem (see a few posts
earlier). DASH for Radio is still beta on web browser and so it's
possible BBC haven't turned on the UK World service DASH feed. The
non UK URL works if you really want World Service.

Using the latest version (Win 7, LMS 7.9 latest) after deleting your old
repositories and adding your new one. No error is visible on iPeng. The
world service icon is displayed but there's no sound. I can look into
this later, if still an issue, when I get home tonight.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version

2015-11-25 Thread utgg

Just a small thing. For completeness it would perhaps be good to include
mrw's patch for fixing the 'More Info' display of file format and
bitrate. Patch description is here:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?53229-Announce-BBCiPlayer-Plugin-(UK-only)&p=817083&viewfull=1#post817083.

The bit to remove the redundant icon url at the end of the constructed
iplayer://aod? string certainly seems very sensible to me. Something
additional would need to be added to DASH.pm as well as HLS.pm to get
the bitrate to also show up.
