I just assumed the Beeb had done one of its famous changes for the sake
of it, since the vpid option doesn't work in playHLS either this
season.

Had to resort to loading the web player and then checking each stream
in LMS until I found the one playing through the web page ...

After receiving the dreaded general transient error with Triode's plug
in (Orange logo,) I switched to the official app with the Spotify
handler and it's been running for a couple weeks without problem. The
advantage with the official app is I'm getting the Discovery Weekly
playlist, which I wasn't getting anymore on the third party app.

It IS about different philosophies. He chose to add the functionality
you wanted even though it required him to do so in a manner I would
consider a waste of resources. While I chose to keep the app as lean as
possible. Different developers have different priorities when it comes
to the design and features of an app.

Yes I know he has rewritten iPeng several times, but a few times was
because changes in iOS broke backwards compatibility and forced him to
rewrite and I commend him for doing it.

Judging the "commitment, capabilities, quality and budget" of a
developer based solely on what you see in an app is a simplistic view
and it's a little insulting. Do you actually know the challenges
a developer faces when developing for these two platforms? I would never
comment on an iOS developer's capabilities just because their iOS
app is not as good similar apps on Android because I have no idea what
it's like to write for iOS.

"dash:":

I remember last year about audio events number but never figure out how
to get to vpid.

However there are a few different things in the MTIS compared to a
normal program and which the plugin doesn't expect such as service types
"pc_stream_audio_webcast_nonuk_a_p122" and
"pc_stream_audio_webcast_nonuk_a_p123" and this may stop playing.

If you want to use a simple DASH based player to test DASH urls as some
mightn't play in BBCiplayer you can yse the reference player in Firefox
and Chrome

http://dashif.org/reference/players/javascript/v2.4.1/samples/dash-if-reference-player/index.html

Paste the URL you want to test and then click "load" - the default
option is to start playing.

Sorry - As I browserd the javscript network log - I managed to spot the
important "GET"s.

I only get non UK URLs - the top level MTIS URL is generic but when BBC
spots the source - the relevant UK or NON UK response is sent

Javascript debugger works in Chrome and Firefox.

Open the BBC web page and play the stream and stop it.
In Chrome right click on the page and click "Inspect" from popup menu
and then select the "Network" tab (after Element, source, Console)
In Firefox right click on the page and click "Inspect Element" from
popup menu - and again select "Network" from in new window tab

Then start the stream (you may have to relaod the page) - after a bit
pause the stream and look at the network events

If itheprocess can be formalised in some way - the I might be able to
add somehting the the BBCiPlayer plugin to make it easier to use. As it
stand it could make sense to have many "Audio Stream Event" streams
predefined but do they go from 0-70 ?.

Assigning unconnected players to servers is not possible because Squeeze
Ctrl does not connect to players directly. All commands from the app
are sent to the server which then controls the players. That is how the
Squeezebox system works.

The core of the app is designed and coded to control one player at a
time. This is why the Player Manager is separated from the rest of the
app. It is a special case that allows control of multiple players.
Bringing that type of control into the main app would require an almost
complete rewrite and quite frankly I think its a waste of resources. The
ability to control multiple players incurs a lot of overhead. If you
have four players certain processing and network activity will have to
be done four times. When the vast majority of the time you would really
only care about the current player, all that extra work would be a
waste.

As to the list that shows the servers and the players assigned to them,
the app doesn't actually directly know about the players on the other
servers. It depends on the currently connect server knowing about the
players on the other servers. This in turn depends on the servers on
the network talking to each other and exchanging player lists. Because
of this, it's actually not a very reliable list. To reliably do the
drag and drop you suggest would mean that the app has to connect to
every server simultaneously (this is how iPeng does it, according to
pippin the developer). Once again it would require a large rewrite and
also a little wasteful for something you probably won't do that often.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Annouce: Squeeze Control, a squeezebox remote app, is now available for Android

2017-04-28 Thread soundcheck

Ok. Got it.

I had a customized home-menu with Music Source turned off. Stupid me.

However. I still have issues.

1. If I switch to a server (top menu) that has no players connected the
Home-screen stays blank.
There's no way to assign a player to that screen.
2. Now the app has server/player handling at four different
positions/menus.

It would be nice if player to server assignment and sync of players
could be arranged
from e.g. the bottom player menu.

That bottom menu shows server and assigned players already.
It would be nice if by e.g. a "drag" a player could just be moved to
another server in that list.
Players that are not connected to any server should show up in a third
list as not connected.

Sync of players could be arranged by marking certain players and e.g a
long tap would sync them.

This way the "Music Source " and "Managed Player" menus could be
removed.
Only two menus to handle servers/players would be left.

Just a thought.

Thx.

In some countries there's also 'Qubuz' (http://www.qobuz.com/). I don't
have experience with them. They are not available in Denmark where I am.
But they seem to be expanding and have high-res streaming too.
