Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 3.x - Spotify Podcasts on your Squeezebox

2019-12-27 Thread Chippy

Firstly, apologies as I'm sure that this has been covered before, but I
can't for the life of me find where.

I'm happily using Spotty, but this Christmas we splurged on a Family
Premium account and I'd like to assign an different Spotify account to
each individual Squeezebox. Grateful if someone could let me know how I
do this? I don't seen to have an "account" setting at the player level.

Here are the steps I took to get the new HLS streams working on LMS
7.8.0 running on Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8...

1. INSTALL BPA'S PLAYHLS PLUGIN
- In LMS, choose Settings and go the the Plugins tab. At the bottom of
the screen enter the following URL into the respository URL:
http://bpaplugins.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/repo-playhls.xml
- Click apply. LMS will prompt to restart
- PlayHLS should appear as an available plugin to install. Install as
normal (tick the box) and if necessary enable it. LMS will prompt to
restart.

2. INSTALL FFMPEG ON YOUR SYSTEM:
- Download from http://ffmpegmac.net/
- Make sure you choose the right version. I'm using a 32-bit Mac mini
from 2006 so used the 32-bit version; most people probably need the 64
bit version.
- Extract 3 files from the downloaded zip file
- copy the three extracted files (you probably only need ffmpeg) into
the /usr/local/bin directory.
- Note that to complete the last step, I had to modify the permissions
of /usr/local/bin directory to allow me to write to the folder by typing
the following at a terminal prompt:
sudo chown -R $(whoami) /usr/local/bin
(you will be prompted for your password)

3. CHECK
- In LMS Settings - Advanced - Filetype that there a Apple HLS m3u8 File
type and there are 3 ffmpeg entries set and not greyed out or disabled.

4. ADD ONE OR MORE OF THE HLS URLS TO YOUR \"FAVORITES\".
- On the LMS home page, click the pencil icon to the right of
"Favorites"
- Copy the URL for your selected station and enter an appropriate
description.

Your selected stations should now be available in the Favorites menu on
your Squeezeboxen for selection.

Many thanks to bpa, Michael Herger and penguin_sam for helping to point
me in the right direction. The way that the community comes together to
solve these problems and help each other never ceases to impress me :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)

2015-02-13 Thread Chippy

So - I've installed the plugin and the favourites are in place. When I
try to play any of the new streams, the stream looks as if it should be
playing on LMS for a couple of seconds but then stops. No sound is
played.

Presumably, this is because ffmpeg isn't installed on my Mac - but I
can't find anywhere that doesn't have a very painful command line
approach to installation. I've tried about three of these methods (each
of which differs from the others) but get stuck at various "configure"
or "make" stages.

Surely there's an easier way to get this working?!

Please help!

Perhaps I should ask a simpler question: how do you install ffmpeg on
Mac OS X?

I've downloaded from the website, but it's just a zip file containing 3
command line executables. If I run any of them, they just show me a man
page with a bunch of options, but not much else to go on...

Nick - my understanding is that LMS transcodes from the streaming codec
to (lossless) FLAC (for use on the local network), so the stream
shouldn't take much of a quality hit if any.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2015-01-20 Thread Chippy

Hi -
I'm having trouble with the plugin - but only on my Squeezebox Radio.
When I try to listen, I am able to browse the Spotify menus without
issue, but as soon as I try to play a song I get the message "User has
been banned" on the Radio screen.

Spotify is playing fine through the same LMS to my SB3 and Booms, so I
don't think it's my Spotify account.

The plugin self test (on LMS) runs OK until the 5th section, where it
says "player unable to connect". At the exact time that this part of the
test fails, I also see the "User has been banned" message on the radio.

The Radio is on my WiFi network - no firewalls, etc, in play. The Radio
is otherwise working normally.

Any advice gratefully received...

GeeJay wrote:
> I'm having the same issue.

After a complete LMS uninstall/reinstall didn't fix the problem on my
Mac, the following steps finally resolved the issue for me:

1. Start LMS and install Greg's original plugin from the repository (I
didn't have SDT installed after the LMS reinstall)
2. Restart LMS when prompted
3. Download the new version of SDT and extract the folder
4. With LMS STILL RUNNING, open the plugins folder, delete the old
(Greg's) superdatetime folder and replace with the new extracted
folder.

It appears that by installing Greg's plugin first, LMS is "happy" that
an SDT folder is "permitted" to be in the plugins folder. The "updated
plugins" message has now disappeared and the SDT folder isn't deleted
when the server restarts.

I hope that makes sense...

Yep - I fact I've tried unchecking both of those boxes without success.

I should point out that, although LMS reports that plugin updates are
available, when I get to the plugin screen there are no plugins that
appear to be requesting an update - but I immediately see the pop up
dialog box asking me to reboot (or defer until later).

I can workaround the problem by selecting "reboot later", but the prompt
persists everything I go to the plugin screen. And I i restart the
server (via Preferences, etc) SDT is deleted.

Sensible suggestion - unfortunately didn't work though.

When I start the server, the prompt to update plugins is there. Any
reboot and the SDT folder is deleted from the Plugins folder.

2015-01-05 Thread Chippy

I'm having a strange problem using the new plugins on LMS 7.7.5 running
on Mac OS X v10.6.8

The steps I take to install are as follows:

1. Uncheck Greg's plugin to uninstall

2. Copy unzipped updates to
user/Library/Caches/Squeezebox/InstalledPlugins/Plugins

3. Stop/start server (via Preferences)

The plugin now works - however, I now see "Plugin updates are available"
on the LMS home screen. If I go to the plugin settings tab, I am
prompted to restart server. If I do so, I lose the new SDT plugin.

Perhaps this is a problem with Greg's repository refusing to die?! If
so, is there anything that I can do to remove Greg's repository to
resolve this issue?

Hi guys -
Alpha 2 is working fine for me on my SB3 and Boom. It is also working on

characters of the period are capitalized - for example: TODay, TONight.

The issue doesn't appear on the Boom and SB3 - possibly because these
words are capitalized on these devices.

Guys -
Minor issue, but I'd be grateful for any advice...

A while back (possibly a year ago) I used to have my SDT baseball
scores set to "smooth scroll" (at 1 pixel increments). For whatever
reason (possibly a firmware update that moved the scroll functionality
to the firmware) it changed back to a more jerky scroll a while ago.

Belatedly, I'm trying to get it back.

I've made the settings on the "Player/Display" page (1 pixel at 0.011
second updates) which works fine for any song titles, etc - but doesn't
appear to have an effect on the SDT scores.

Any ideas?

Still not working for me - weather location UKXX0085 (London).

Bear in mind that if your server has been running for days/weeks, the
symptom of the issue for me was that the weather/scores from a week or
so are retained as current info. A server restart just gives me with
"weather.com" logo. So if your weather doesn't change much, it may take
a while to notice!

Same here - see post 2069.

I've also had some intermittent weather parsing issues for the past

fine; other times I get gibberish in the description field; other times
I see crazy temps (-17C when it's actually 5C).

My Mac is currently in the middle of a massive online backup, so that
may be the cause. Interested to hear if others have the issue,

Hi Greg -
Understood - perhaps I should stay away from the technicalities and
describe the symptoms. You know what they say about a little knowledge!
;)

>From what I remember, I was previously able to see:

"Today" in the early morning
"Tonight" in the afternoon
etc

SDT would always keep one "period" ahead of the current time. Now, my
options are to view a precise forecast exactly 6 hours ahead, or two or
three "periods" in the future - but not the "next" period in the
immediate future.

Is it possible to have this functionality back?

Thanks again

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2010-02-09 Thread Chippy

Hi Greg -
A question/issue about international forecasts after the Weather.com
changes:

My location is set to London (UKXX0085) and I usually have my
Squeezeboxen set to show the forecast for the next "period" - for
example showing "Today" in the morning and "Tonight" in the afternoon,
etc.

Ever since the recent changes, my forecast display now cycles in the
following order:

Currently -> [time+6hrs] -> Tomorrow -> Tomorrow Night -> Tonight ->
Wed...

It appears that the next period ("Tonight") is out of order (in 5th
position) - it should be between "time+6hrs" and "Tomorrow" (in third
position).

Unfortunately, only the first four periods show the full forecast,
which means that I'm unable to display the usual full forecast for
"Tonight".

I hope I've been able to explain this OK. Please let me know if further
clarification is required!

cheers
Chippy

Has anyone else noticed that the MLB updates have stopped refreshing?
Bizarrely, it seems to have happened in the middle of the 7th inning of
game 3 of the World Series last night. The Yankees were agonisingly
close to moving into a series lead for about 10 hours, until I
rebooted...

Now I'm not getting any info whatsoever (tonights upcoming game 4, for

I guess the problem with this workaround is that I'm woken by whatever

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer 0.9 - with UK and Non UK Support

Hi Triode -
Quick observation re: 0.9a. The "Now playing" screen on my SB3 and Boom
display the URL (http://www.bbc.co.uk/), rather than the favourite
label ("Radio Five Live").

If I go back to your trusty v0.7 the favourite label displays
correctly.

Thanks. Having been a very happy user of 7.3.3 since I upgraded to Snow
Leopard yesterday, I'm clearly ignorant of a lot of the new features in
both iPlayer and 7.4!

Having read the other thread, you've clearly put in a lot of work to
get AAC working - please ignore my laggard comments about WMA. I'll be
staying on 7.3.4/0.7 for the time being, but when 7.4 gets a little more
stable for (my) general consumption I'm sure the experience of 0.9 (or
whatever it is by then) will be just a good.

Thanks again for a great plugin - and keep up the good work!

I'm using a Mac. I guess anything's going to be slower than the almost
"instant on" that I'm used to. Although to be fair, the "favourites"
issue may have clouded my judgement on this one - I didn't do much
testing after I hit that issue and quickly reverted back to 0.7.

And last night's 7.4 didn't even let me assign preset numbers to
favourites!

Understood - thanks.

I would personally prefer if we had the option to choose streams in

than slightly better audio quality. Of course, those that listen to BBC
music radio may have a different opinion.

0.7 works great for me. I take back what I said about radio startup
taking less than 2 seconds - it's less than 1! :)

Using 0.9 had caused me problems with favourites, but also took much
longer to start playing the radio stream, and occasionally failed when
trying. Forgive my ignorance - I don't know if this is transcode
related or not. I just know that 0.7 gives a great user experience.

I have the same issue - having just upgraded to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, I
thought the problem was related to that. I must have updated from an
older version of iPlayer to 0.9 without realising.

The ability to use favourites is a killer feature on the Boom. It means
I can go from 'standby' to listening to Radio 5 Live in about 2 seconds
- including all buffering. It's pretty amazing when compared to other
"internet radios". (Yes, I'm looking at you Pure Evoke Flow...)

Thanks for posting the 0.7 link. I'll give it a shot...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] MusicInfoSCR 4.3 - now with theOriginal Boom Booklet Layout

2009-01-12 Thread Chippy

> Could you please describe how you get in that situation?

In the MusicInfoSCR plugin settings, I've selected to display the
'sleep' icon in the top right hand corner of my SB3, and I've also
chosen to 'animate' the icon. (I'm not at home at the moment - let me
know if I need to be clearer on these setting details).

Then, I push the 'sleep' button on the remote a number of times to
select a sleep time for the SB3. If I select 15, 30 or 45 minutes, the
icon appears and alternates every second or so with an icon that
includes small circle. If I select 60 minutes, the icon without a
circle appears and then disappears every second. It's as if the '60
minutes' sleep icon with the circle is not included in the plugin.

Using a Mac (OS X 10.5.6) running SC 7.3.1

> Oh well, I think 0 or - don't make that much of a difference, do
they? :-)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] MusicInfoSCR 4.3 - now with theOriginal Boom Booklet Layout

2009-01-11 Thread Chippy

Hi Michael -
Firstly, thanks for a great plugin. Been using MusicInfoSCR for a few
months now on SB3 and Boom - and it's just another example of what
makes this platform great! Thanks again.

I've noticed a couple of minor bugs in 4.3.7:

Firstly, when displaying the animated sleep icons on a SB3 (not tested
Boom), the second image for '60 minutes' appears to be missing. All
other times work fine.

Secondly, I listen to a lot of Internet radio streams, and I use the
'kbps' option in your plugin. On some stations, I get valid info, but
on others (particularly BBC iPlayer stations) it displays '0kbps'. I
appreciate that this info may not be available, but perhaps '-kbps' or
some alternate may be more appropriate in these situations?

Cheers

Hi Greg -
Firstly, a very Happy New Year to you!

I've noticed a small bug running SDT 5.8.2 on SC 7.3.1 (using extension
downloader); Mac OS X 10.5.6 on both my Squeezebox3 (v121) and new Boom
(v41).

SDT is set as my 'off' screen saver. If either SB has been 'idle' for
some time, and I turn the player 'off', SDT appears but will only show
the large time/temp/humidity text and the 'tonight:' forecast. I do not
see the weather icon or the small 'hi/lo' temp or 'prec' %age text -
this left area of the screen is blank.

If I push '+' to refresh data, the missing items appear after a
refresh.

Using weather.com. Please let me know if you need any more info.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2007-08-22 Thread Chippy

Yup. Same here. My weather is for London, UK if that helps.

'Low' temp and 'Prec %' are still displaying OK.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2007-04-13 Thread Chippy

Greg -
Thanks for the reply. My bad! I was trying to use SDT as a screensaver
*whilst playing* (I can't get enough of it!). It seems that SDT does
not scroll to MLB scores when playing a (streaming) radio station
(possibly an SB CPU issue?).

Whatever the cause - it doesn't matter - I've gone back to my previous
settings and all is good.

Thanks once again

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2007-04-11 Thread Chippy

Hi Greg -
I'm also appear to have the issue where the finished games scores do
not show for long after the game has finished; I get tomorrows games
instead. I like in the UK, and your previous fix worked fine for me. Is
this another affect of ESPNs changes?

Caveat: I have recently made some wireless network changes, and my WLAN
connection is a little flaky. Can't rule this out as the cause either
for the time being...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2007-04-02 Thread Chippy

Hi -
I'm also seeing the problem where games in progress - and completed
games also - do not show up at all. Nothing from the Yankee game for
me, anyway.

Mac OS X 10.4.9; SlimServer 6.5.1

Caveat: given the long closed season, I can't be 100% sure there isn't
something wrong with my settings, but after an initial check everything
looks as it should...

Thanks Waldy. I've just downloaded - looking forward to tomorrow night
to try it out...

Not to sound ungrateful, but have you considered making your code
available for the SuperDateTime plugin? It's a great engine, and it's
nice to have the sports scores alternate with the time and weather
info.

Just a thought!

One thing I've noticed - I've set the screensaver to kick in whilst
playing (AlienBBC). But once the screensaver is displaying, no button
press will take me back to the Squeezebox menu, unless I red button
'power off'.

version...)

A little more info: when I try to play Five Live and the data stream
starts, my CPU jumps to around 50% for the perl process, which looks
good. However, I don't have an mplayer process.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC on Intel Mac?

2006-11-23 Thread Chippy

Thanks very much for the responses, folks. Things seem to be much
simpler than the last time I tried this on a PC - however, I still seem
to be one step short of success...

Process so far:
- Installed AlienBBC, MPlayer and LAME.
- Restarted Slimserver 6.5.1 nightly.
- AlienBBC menu appears OK in Slimserver.
- Try playing Radio 5.
- Bandwidth meter on Mac starts showing a constant download stream of
abour 45KB. So far so good...

Unfortunately, my SB3 just shows 'Playing Radio 5', but the clock is
stuck at 0:00.

Perhaps this is my problem...?

"You will need to point AlienBBC to the mplayer in the Application area
and not the one at the top level which is just a GUI frontend."

How do I go about that, then?

cheers

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC on Intel Mac?

2006-11-23 Thread Chippy

Before I frustrate myself silly trying, is it possible to get AlienBBC
working on my Mac Mini Core Duo?

The following line from the MPlayer download page of the AlienBBC
website sounds ominous:

"These binaries are built on Mac OS X for the PPC platform. They will
not work on Intel-based Macs."

So that's it then? No AlienBBC support for Intel Macs?

TIA

Many thanks for that, Craig - plugin is working fine again now. (BTW -
you might like to update step 1 in your installation instructions on

I've also made the change you suggested to the URL, and will post back
later with results.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2006-08-16 Thread Chippy

Don't know what's happened, but trying to upgrade to v4.1 on SlimServer
6.3.1 (Mac OS 10.4.7) has resulted in me losing the plugin completely.
It no longer appears in the Server Settings/Plugins screen as an
option.

Have tried starting/stopping SlimServer, rebooting, downgrading to
4.06, deleting slimserver.pref... etc etc. No luck. Any thoughts?

PS The ZIP files always seem to contain a file calle plugin.pm, rather
than superdatetime.pm. Is this normal?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2006-08-16 Thread Chippy

Hi Greg -
Thanks for a great plugin! I particularly like the 'slide' transition.
One feature update would really make the plugin for me though...

I'm a MLB fan in the UK - so most games take place after midnight local
time. Whilst it's good to be able to keep track of games if I wake in
the middle of the night, it seems that as soon as the game is over, the
display switches to 'next game' mode right away.

It would be great if I could wake up in the morning and see the score
from game that was played overnight. Is it possible to retain the score
for a few hours after the game is complete?

Thanks once again
Chippy
