No luck, I'm sorry to say. The new Squeezeslave player only plays

I guess I install the 7.3.3 patch first, then install a 0.9 binary. I

2009-07-01 Thread Dean L . Surkin

Ralphy:

Thanks for getting back to me. I am running .8-25. As noted in my third
post in this thread,Squeezeslave runs, but will not play any FLAC
files--it will only play mp3 files and Internet radio streams. I have
two mp3 files and a few thousand FLAC files in my library.

I verified that my Duets properly play the FLAC files, so the problem
is not with SqueezeCenter. It appears to be some weird combination of
SqueezeCenter 7.3.3 and Squeezeslave, where Squeezeslave and
SqueezeCenter are running on the same machine.

I appreciate your time. Thanks also to maggior for his time and

I finally narrowed it down--I can play Internet radio and MP3 files (I

This started when I upgraded Squeezecenter to 7.3.3.

Update:
I am able to get Squeezeslave to run by using the command

padsp /usr/bin/squeezeslave.

However, still no sound. I ran the command pulseaudio --dump-modules,
and got a list of all my modules, but with n/a/ next to each one. I'm
not sure what this means--are these modules loaded, and just not in use?

I seem to recall there was a command-line mixer for Pulseaudio, but I
cannot recall the command. I'm wondering if all my mixer inputs got
reset to zero?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Upgrade to 7.3.3 broke Squeezeslave

2009-06-28 Thread Dean L . Surkin

I've had Squeezeslave version .7x working on Squeezecenter up to version
7.3.2. However, upgrading to 7.3.3 caused Squeezeslave to deliver no
sound when playing any song on my server. Internet radio still worked
(though still with the long-time bug that lower bit-rate channels play
back at higher speed and higher pitch).

I tried upgrading Squeezeslave to version .8-26, and now I get the
error message
Portaudio error: host error.

I have checked permissions, and there has been no change from before:
Squeezeslave, Squeezecenter, etc. are all members of the Audio group, as
are root and my username.

I'd appreciate any help.

Here's more info on my system:

Ubuntu 8.04.1 Server (headless)
AMD 64 bit version (Squeezeslave version is the AMD64 version--that's
why I didn't try Squeezeslave .9, since there's no compiled version
available for AMD64 yet)
2 Gigs RAM, plenty of RAID 5 space, plenty of un-RAIDed boot and swap
partitions
ECS motherboard with ATI/AMD 740 chip set (integrated sound and
graphics).

If you have thoughts on this, please recall that this system was
working previously.

Please don't assume I know very much about Linux. While I was
programming in Fortran back in the 1960s, I am far from my programming
days. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable with Windows, but this was
the first Linux box I ever built.

Thanks again to anyone who can help.

Will there be a common library shared amongst the various async skins

What is SlimDevices' vision about this ?

Issue:  trying to generate an ML instant mix through the remote fails;

it. e.g. press and hold play button, and get the option of either ML
or MM instant mix - select ML, and player hangs for a while

while SS loads the entire library).

SB displays message "failed to retrieve resource". In addition, SS
loses connection with ML. Need to restart both MoodLogic and
slimserver before I can use ML again. This, sadly, triggers a rescan
of the library :(

Worth mentioning that MoodLogic support recently told me that
Squeezebox is currently not supported. It SS/ML seems to work fine
from the web interface, but clearly not from the remote.

Shall I log this as a bug? Or...?

I've written a plugin that should work with any radio tuner card.
The plugin comes with an example that runs under linux with the

A little extra coding should support other os's and other radio tuner
drivers.

I very much appreciate all comments and feedback.

Below is the contents README file, and attached is the zip archive
(which contains the Plugin/Tuner file structure).

-- README -

This Plugin supports streaming from a computer based radio tuner to
a squeezebox. The Plugin does the following:
o Defines a protocol "frq:" which defines a content type "frq"
o Loads up extra type conversions which allow converting frq types
to other audio types (the plugin comes with an example frq to
flc conversion)
o Defines a mode which allows a user to enter a tuner frequency via
the remote control

The plugin comes with a "frq" example program that can control a v4l
(video for linux) FM tuner.

The example program assumes the the v4l2 development libraries are
installed.

To use the v4l tuner the ivtv drivers need to be installed
(see http://ivtvdriver.org/) and a supported tuner card must be
installed.

The example has been tested under linux with a Hauppauge PVR 350 PCI
card and
ivtv driver version 0.4.0.

To install the example program under linux go to the subdirectory src
under the Tuner
plugin and do "make ivtv-tuner-play".

The manifest of this Plugin is:
--Tuner/
Plugin.pm -- Plugin Code
FRQ.pm -- "frq" protocol handler
tuner-convert.conf -- extra conversions (from "frq" to other audio
types)
src/ -- source code
-Makefile -- unix Makfile
-ivtv-tuner-play.c -- v4l source code

I've searched around and can't seem to find the setting or plugin that
does the display on the slimdevices home page -
http://www.slimdevices.com/images/hero_image_03.gif

Is this a setting I missed or a slim devices provided plugin that I
missed on the plugins page? I have found variations of this but not
one exactly like it.
