I have been very happy with Qobuz for my listening. Stream with FLAC
and have no problems and recent changes in the plugin make it much
easier to save favorites. Spotify is, unfortunately becoming another
'media' company (as opposed to concentrating on music) and aimed at a
different crowd.

ARD Audiothek now has the entire (I think) set of ARD RadioFestival

possible by this great app. Thanks, Listened to Alan Gilbert and the

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Community Firmware for Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller and LMS 8

2020-12-29 Thread ericj

A quick thank you and positive feedback. It was easy to update 1 radio
and 1 touch. The radio has been stable since no drops of wifi, and no
reboots. Reboots were a bit frequenct, I think because I has installed
saver switcher and two custom-clock screensavers. I never had the
patience to chase that down, but it has not been a problem for a couple
of days.

In case it is helpful, this was with a Max2Play installation running
stretch/raspian.

New life into a great product. BTW, radios seem fairly inexpensive
(~$50?) on ebay now.

My sincere thanks and wishes for the new year.

Update and a reboot of the server did work. Thanks.

I don't seem to be able to edit an existing playlist, but perhaps that
is a permissions problem. I'll explore. BTW, the server is a pi3,

No plugin, but there are direct links available for two of the streams
See

The URL's are both MP3 128k:

http://west-mp3-128.streamthejazzgroove.com/stream

Enter in Tune In URL under radio and can be saved to favorites. Not the

First, I totally understand your position, and continue to appreciate
your efforts in general, and certainly could live without iphone drag
and drop. And, btw, I mistyped. I'm running IOS 12.2. The fact that
Apple does not, by default, support HTML5 Standards is disturbing.

I have done some investigating, and IOS on ipad and iphone have
different defaults. I'll investigate further, but this is documented
here, from stack exchange
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/46392359/how-to-get-ios-11-drag-and-drop-working-on-the-iphone.
It assumes you are programming in Swift, so probably of little help.

Thanks for your quick response

Again, thanks for all the efforts on supporting this interface,
particularly with a large set of target devices. I tried drag and drop
and it worked well on ios 11 on the ipad, but apparently there are
difference in the implemenation of drap and drop for the iphone.
Here, it seems impossible to even select an item. Tapping and holding
currently do nothing. Sorry to be the bearer of bad (but perhaps
useful?) news...

First, thanks for this terrific interface. Early on in this thread, it
appears that the framework used does not work with IOS devices. I use
this extensively on the desktop. On IOS (12.1.4 on a 8 plus), drag and
drop editing does not appear to work. I assume that this is the
responsibility of the framework, but just wanted to make sure that I was
not missing something. Apologies in advance if I missed something in
the thread, but I did look.
Again, great work, and just checking that my understanding of the
situation is correct. Thanks in advance.

My On Demand Peferences are Dash>HLS>MP3>FlashACC

I have the bitrate set for On Demabnd to be Highest DASH

Problem shows does not depend on devices or interface software...I have

My test case is On Demand Radio 3, but many other On Demand links show
the same behavior.

Iplayer extras seem to function, just hard to navigate, particularly

And finally, the iplayer web interface seems to function well for On

Thanks. Very useful indeed and a useful replacement for the logitech
ios app.

One question. I have played bit and not found a way to turn a player
on and off. Useful if the player also control a power supply, etc.

The options on the questionnaire are:
Desktop iPlayer Radio App DAB Radio FM Radio Other Skip

Not the pluginprobably a standard set of categories. Thus I could
not say BPA's wonderful plugin..:)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: ShairTunes2 plugin - Airtunes on your LMS

2015-08-06 Thread ericj

Any pointers will greatly appreciated. As I wrote earlier, the
plugin seems to install fine, and all my devices appear on the iDevice.
I have completely installed LMS 7.9 from scratch. However, when I try
to use airplay to forward something from iTunes, indicates the idevice
is selected, it pauses for about 8 seconds, i, then a message "Cannot
complete action" sometimes appears on the device, and the airplay menu
reverts to the idevice and stops playing the tune that is being
forwarded.

I've enabled debug logging (using the shairtunes setting, assume this is
correct?) and it is not very helpful. Is there other logging that would
indicative? As you can see below, there is no indication that the
helper app is being called, etc..

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: ShairTunes2 plugin - Airtunes on your LMS

2015-07-28 Thread ericj

I have installed 0.17 on my server, LMS 7.9 recent nightly. All my
squeeze devices show up as audio/airplay devices, but when I select one,
the stream goes silent and in about 5 seconds the dialog "Cannot
Complete Action" appears. The stream is then stopped.

I've tried looking at the logs, enabling shairport switch to debugging,
but it does not look that useful

Code:

  [15-07-28 15:18:50.8896] Plugins::ShairTunes2::Plugin::initPlugin (91)
Initialising 0.17 on i686-linux-gnu-thread-multi-64int

and messages indicating that the devices have been published
  [15-07-28 20:19:53.2827] Plugins::ShairTunes2::Plugin::publishPlayer (221)
start avahi-publish-service "Office Touch"

I'm using 12.04 LTS Ubuntu, 32 bit. Is it possible the wrong (64 bit)
helper app is being called?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Eric

Yes, using this did the trick, I suspect that it was slightly simpler,
but that you have a newer ffmpeg.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)

2015-02-15 Thread ericj

I’m trying to get this to work on a ReadyNAS Ultra 2, running Radiator
4.2.27.
Deep down, I believe the is debian etch and the latest FFmpeg, installed
using apt-get is 0.6.7-4:0.6.7-0.netgear2
Installed version 1.1 of the PlayHLS plugin via repository.
Apple HLS m3u8 shows ffmpeg, for flac fmmpeg or flac for mhp3 and ffmpeg
to PCH.

System is:
Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1406285120 @ Sat Jul 26 04:16:38
UTC 2014
Hostname: mcbee2
Server IP Address: xxx.xx.xx.xxx
Server HTTP Port Number: 9000
Operating system: Netgear RAIDiator - EN - iso-8859-1
Platform Architecture: i686-linux
Perl Version: 5.8.8 - i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi
Audio::Scan: 0.93
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1)
Total Players Recognized: 6

Using non-uk low streams, I see “connecting…
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/nonuk/sbr_low/llnw/bbc_radio_fourfm.m3u8”
for example, but no sound and a few seconds later the ‘playing’
indicator stops…..
Nothing helpful in the log files
File plays well in VLC

Its difficult to find a newer ffmpeg for the NAS…. Any suggestions?

How about volume controls? Or have I missed something? also
keystrokes, maybe corresponding to those in squeezeslave?

I think this is great, and the search feature terrific.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Smart Mix plugin

2012-12-28 Thread ericj

Just installed 0.92, a couple of quick observations
--with external sources (MOG in my case), both artist radio and mix
(under the smart mix entry) work just fine.
--with external sources off (my library selected) no luck (no mix is
generated) although I have run a full scan.

In addition, when I try to generate a new recipe using the blender, the
upper frame looks fine, but when I type in the name of an artist, there
is a brief blink of activity, but the lower frame remains blank.

Sorry I don't have more time to do dumps of log files right now, but
this is a great reward to users, and I hope this is a little helpful

Thanks.
Eric

Thanks so much. Actually it does not pay at all. If it is useful, if
I go to the Radio 3 web page and try the HD stream there, it reports
"Not available in your area"

Seems like a missed revenue generating opportunity for the BEEB.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-07-14 Thread ericj

I just bought a premium account, and triode's plugin works very well.
A couple of worrisome moments until I opened my firewall for the helper
app, and checked the security advanced settings to allow other IP's in.

Sound quality seems noticeably better than Napster, and the music
selection better as well. The thing I will explore is coverage of
back catalog jazz and the depth of its classical collection.

Thanks, triode.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] UK: BBC HD Sound - BBCiPlayer Support

2010-10-31 Thread ericj

First, thanks Triode for this. I quite liked the proms (non-electric)
broadcasts that were tested before, and listen to Radio 3 quite often.

Does anyone have a clue of the bitrate of the Radio 3 live stream
outside the UK? It reports 32k cbr, but sounds a bit better, but of
course that could be the result of wanting a higher bit rate. Indeed,
don't tell the BEEB, but I would pay for higher bitrates

Again, thanks. The BBC app is the single best aspect of the squeeze

While ssh shows the files have been transferred, I have no sign the

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Understanding MusicIP moods and recipes

2010-03-08 Thread ericj

I was tinkering this weekend with MusicIP on a Ubuntu box. This is
very interesting. I am wondering if a similar technique would work for
filters? Since I run MIP server headless, I wonder if there is a way of
constructing an xml file (old blog posts about MMM suggest that this is
the format) and copying it to a location.
Alternately, I guess I could try to get MusicMagicMixer to run under
Ubuntu. I tried briefly but got a JAVA_HOME variable not set error.
Has anyone had luck with this?
Thanks much in advance.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I'm just not sure what you mean by
importing the MusicIP data. I am using the MusicIP plugin with the
'import all song data' option selected. This still, requires, if I
understand correctly a blank music library setting, and thus no music
folder in the standard settings.

Surely I must be missing something. And I do enjoy IPeng...

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Browse, Music Folders and both Controller and IPeng

2010-02-20 Thread ericj

I've installed Custom Browse, and get the Music folder working well.
However, this does not show up on either the controller or IPeng Custom
Browse menus.

You may ask why I want to duplicate the servers' music folder
capability. After installing MusicIP, there is no Music Folder (since
one sets this to blank in a music folder setup, I simply wanted this
in addition to my not-well-done tags and the MusicIP setting. For
Erland, I was able to get a 'new' music folder to work by adding the ?
hierarchy =... argument to the browse.html in the xml.

But neither the new, or the old music folder show up. I assume this
is due to the fact that this uses the web interface, but does anyone
have any suggestions.

Thanks for Custom Browse and IPeng to both authors.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2009-08-12 Thread ericj

Great product, one small thought. Some song titles, particularly for
classical music, are lengthy, and strings like Alleg.Chopin might
not be the most helpful. This is how things show up on both the control
screen and the playlist. I realize that we are working with limited
space, but would wrap around on the playlist be a possibility? This
would be similar to the 2 line wrap around one gets in selecting music
(although 3 lines would, on occasion be better)
Thanks

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2009-05-29 Thread ericj

After many months of terrific stability, I have a problem. Crashes on
startup, first on 1.1.1 and now on 1.1.2. I had installed a new
server and router, and it seemed to 'autodiscover' the server, find the
players, and even download albumart, then crash.
I have deleted the app, redownloaded from iTunes, no joy. Also tried
airplane mode and it does not crash, but of course finds no server.
Suggestions?
Thanks for a wonderful app.

Thanks BPA. It solves a problem of accessing the server while
traveling. And buys time for squeezeplay

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: MLB Gameday Plugin 0.0.1 -- alpha testers wanted

2009-03-22 Thread ericj

I'm wondering if your and RichA's problem is that you are looking for
the MLB prototype on the controller. It does not have a controller
interface as far as I can tell, but can be seen on both the web
interface AND the display of both the classic and boom. Is that
possible?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: MLB Gameday Plugin 0.0.1 -- alpha testers wanted

2009-03-10 Thread ericj

I took about 5 minutes to install this on my Ubuntu server. It was much
simpler than I thought. Simply edited the install.xml file, installed
the plugin, and then rebooted. The required modules all were
previsouly installed (checked in synaptic).
This is alpha software, and while it would be nice to have an interface
for the controller and web, AND access to archive games, it was nice to
be able to listen to out-of-town (i.e. market) games.

The low quality of the audio reminded me of listening to baseball on AM
radio while driving cross country. No fading though!

It would be wise, I think, of the powers that be to get this polished a
little bit, adding to the legion of logo's they support on their
packaging. Lots of fans who would love to listen on their Booms
outside

Thanks for the tips...

Resetting the menus did the trick. Thanks.
This plugin is so useful. Please let me know if a non-coder can help.
Also, has the BBC thought of selling access to higher bitrate streams?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC schedules give "no programs found"

2009-02-22 Thread ericj

I seem to be the lone dissenter, but here in the US the beta version
does not address the problem.

Radio 3 (and others) produces a single listing line which is:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/networks/radio3/audiolist.shtml

My setup is below, but the only possible causes I can see of my
different results is that I'm running the newest nightly 7.3.3, and am
not in the UK (the US in fact). I did delete my allienbbc.opml from
the cache file.

This is a wonderful plugin, and we miss it very much when it is not
working.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Odd AlienBBC BBC only problem,

2008-12-13 Thread ericj

Interestingly, I tried BPA's suggestion, which had a different url for
Radio 3, and it did work, while mine which was copied from the AlienBBC
URL, did not.
I then made sure that I eliminated all references I could find of the
old installation, including the alienbbc.prefs file. That solved the
problem both live streams and recorded iplayer streams worked.
It is also possible that there is some oddness at the BEEB's end, since
some programs take quite a while to start. Curious about other's
experiences.

Thanks, BPA, for all the help. This is a VERY important plugin, and
Radio 3 is the reason, for me at least.
(FYI, I'm in NY, not the UK)

On this server, there are two Squeezebox 3's, a Receiver (off at this
time) and a softsqueeze.

By not retrieving data, I mean the screen has the Weather Channel logo
and the time. Time updates, but otherwise the screen save does not
cycle. I normally have it retrieving weather and Baseball scores.

I have no other retrieval plug ins as part of SuperDateTime.
AstroInfo, for example, seems to be pulling data successfuly.

I tried the + to force a retrieval. It said retrieving data, but no
change on the display.

sorry to be a problem child.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Potential Solution for MusicIP/Music Folder Problem

2008-08-25 Thread ericj

First, thanks to all for your comments. They have been extraordinarily
helpful and generous.

Second, I concur that having MusicIP and the Squeezeserver scans
operate independently is a good thing.

Finally, Pippin's comment got me to thinking. I had installed MusicIP
with no music library (as documented in the wiki), and that is what I
wanted to use CustomBrowse to address.

When I tried to enter my library as Pippin had suggested, I found that
the MusicIP scan would hang. After some thought, a penny dropped, and
I remembered that I had some flac's with embedded cue sheets that might
have been a problem. The log was very ambiguous. I did use metaflac
and a find command to remove the cue sheets and everything is hunky
dory, at least to date. I have my Music Folders back.

For Erland, I did want to report that his Music Folders custom browse
entry did show my entire system. I think this way would have worked
out, but don't need it as of now. I am a big fan and will use Custom
Browse for my Classical and Opera collection.

Thanks to all for all the help. This is an amazing community
My entry on the cue sheet problem, and how to fix it, in case anyone
runs into the same problem is here:

interesting errors after an attempted compile

cc -c -I/usr/include -I/usr/inc32 -I/usr/kerberos/include -D_REENTRANT
-D_GNU_SOURCE -DTHREADS_HAVE_PIDS -DDEBIAN -fno-strict-aliasing -pipe
-I/usr/local/include -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -O2 -g
-DVERSION=\"1.35\" -DXS_VERSION=\"1.35\" -fPIC
"-I/usr/lib/perl/5.8/CORE" SSLeay.c
SSLeay.xs:92:25: error: openssl/err.h: No such file or directory
SSLeay.xs:93:27: error: openssl/lhash.h: No such file or directory
SSLeay.xs:94:26: error: openssl/rand.h: No such file or directory
SSLeay.xs:95:28: error: openssl/buffer.h: No such file or directory

It would be wonderful to get this working.

Thanks so much

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Potential Solution for MusicIP/Music Folder Problem

2008-08-01 Thread ericj

Thanks, and my apologies for not providing details...
My goal is to add a music folder menu using custom browse. To get
MusicIP to work, it looks like I cannot have a string in the SC music
folder settings.
So this corresponds to erland's
>Or is the Music Folder parameter empty in the SqueezeCenter Settings
and you just want MusicIP mixers support in the other browse menus
while you are still able to use the Music Folder Menu ?

In more concrete terms, is there a way to change the custom browse
music folder entry to start at a specific directory (or other similar
workaround).
Thanks for clarifying

Here is the setup: utf8 is there

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC addon to read iPlayer menus

2008-07-20 Thread ericj

Thanks so much. I had installed v2 of the addon. Worked perfectly. I
had just assumed it would show up under Radio 3 where it was broadcase.
In fact, its under A-Z just as you said.
Also, the feed sounds like a bit higher quality, shows 65K in iPlayer.
I'm happily, thanks to you, listening to the proms in upstate NY

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC addon to read iPlayer menus

2008-07-19 Thread ericj

While iPlayer plays the Proms perfectly well, I don't see them on the
iplayer menu. Strangely, 20 minutes, the interval show, does appear.
Listed, it appears as BBC Proms.
Any help would be, as always, much appreciated.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC addon to read iPlayer menus

2008-07-18 Thread ericj

Haven't tried the newest version, but since Radio 3 was not providing
anything other than Live streams using the old plugin, I did install
this. Worked brilliantly and my only suggestion seem to be in this
update. Amazingly fast response which those of us addicted to BBC
programming appreciate.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2008-06-13 Thread ericj

As an enthusiastic user, I have to report a problem. My setup is at
the end of the email. SC run well, but when I install SuperDateTime
(after an upgrade to SqueezeCenter 7) Squeezecenter will not start
with the following message in the log file:
[08-06-12 21:45:10.1230] Slim::Display::Lib::Fonts::parseFont (657)
Warning: Can't use an undefined value as an ARRAY reference at
/usr/share/perl5/Slim/Display/Lib/Fonts.pm line 657.
[08-06-12 21:45:10.1255] Slim::Utils::PluginManager::shutdownPlugins
(663) Shutting down plugins...
2008-06-12 21:45:13 SqueezeCenter died. Restarting.

Removing SDT lets SC7 start flawlessly. Could this be a problem with
the SDT 'fonts?"
Any help appreciated. Seems to me that this happened when I updated to
SC 7.0.1, but I am not sure..
Eric

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC on SC7 - have to pause and restart on softsqueeze

2008-04-30 Thread ericj

I have noticed the same problem...
-->it does not happen with the squeezebox
-->with softsqueeze 3.6 I need to pause and then continue
-->Irregularly have what sounds like two streams playing at once.

This, among other things, makes skipping by holding the ffwd button
down problematic. I also note more dropping of the stream with
softsqueeze.

Noted on both the max and ubuntu linux servers that I run:
-
SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 17610 - Mac OS X 10.5.2 (9C7010) - EN -
utf8
Server IP address: 128.59.215.158
Perl Version: 5.8.8 darwin-thread-multi-2level
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-standard
Platform Architecture: x86
---
SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0.1 - 18946 @ Sun Apr 20 00:41:25 PDT 2008 -
Debian - EN - utf8
Server IP address: 192.168.15.100
Perl Version: 5.8.7 i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi
MySQL Version: 4.1.15-Debian_1ubuntu5
Platform Architecture: i686-linux

Looks like a softsqueeze problem, or an interaction?
Thanks...
