Here is where I think the problem lies. I have successfully installed
perlbrew (and the required dependencies) which is based on perl5.16.0
and the environment is correctly set since "perl -V" in shell shows
perlbrew is being used. BUT LMS upon starting up uses the perl5.10.0
binary instead which sets its own environment and @INC. I am not a perl
guru. If anyone knows how to either make LMS use the installed perlbrew
build, or modify the perl5.10.0 @INC or environment to point to the
modules installed by perlbrew it would be a great help.
My configuration:

I am under the impression that Soundflower must be selected as the input
AND output audio device in system preferences for this to work. Is this
really so? Is this what is called a loopback device?

That's funny. I have the exact same configuration as you (Mac OS X
10.6.8 on a Mac Mini Late 2009, LMS 7.7.3, sox 14.4.1 and latest
Soundflower). Yet, although the plugin seems to be working, it still
outputs no audio. Heck, my activity monitor shows that sox is not even
launched while the plugin seems to play.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: CDplayer plugin

2009-01-11 Thread jimi00

Just a follow-up on the problems I had with the cdplayer plugin under
mac os x 10.5.6. I am now running CDplayer v1.06b2_7.3 installed using
the Extension Downloader. I get the "no cd in drive" message every time
I try reading a cd. I need to unmount the audio cd with disk utility for
the plugin to access the drive and recognize the cd. But then my os
remounts the cd and the plugin falls back on the "no cd in drive"
message again. I'll try to activate logging to see if I come up with
anything interesting.

OK, I Should have thought of this before but quitting iTunes does
prevent it from gaining control of the drive! On the gloomier side of
things, I AM running slimserver 7.3 and the Cdplayer plug-in now gets
CD and track names properly, I can even hear the drive spinnig up, but
it wont play the tracks. BPA, is this a known issue with SC 7.3 or
would you like me to throw in a few lines of log? If so, which log
should I activate?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: CDplayer plugin

2008-12-13 Thread jimi00

There is an incompatibility between the Cdplayer plug-in and the latest
version of iTunes (8.0.2) on Mac OS X 10.5.5. When you insert an audio
CD, iTunes takes control of the drive and wont let go as long as the
audio CD is physically present. There used to be a system preference to
ignore audio cds as they are inserted. That preference is still
selectable but it remains overridden by iTunes' behavior. Please, if
anyone knows of a workaround to this situation...

Thanks bpa. I'll revert to 7.2.1 and keep you informed when I'll have
the time to do some more testing.

BTW I definitely should be reporting a nasty bug in SC 7.3 that makes
the last couple of seconds of audio stutter on Apple Lossless files
transcoded to WAV or FLAC. I could not figure out if it was a SC or a
SB3 firmware issue.

Yes I did restart SC. And there is an empty file type in the Settings

I followed these instructions to play the RA type. The time indicator
starts up as if something was playing but I dont get any audio out of
the SB3. I checked my processes and mplayer doesnt even seem to
launch.

No luck. I tried playing the file directly from the Music Folder and
the SB3 displays the message "Nothing", so I guess it still considers
it as a playlist.
I even tried renaming the file to "Substitute2.ra" with the same
result.

Thanks for your patience. BTW, keep up the good work on the cdplayer
plugin!

I dont have much experience with adding new types.
Should I remove "rm" as one of the extensions being recognized as rstp
playlists or can SC handle multiple instances of the same extension
among multiple types? Is "rm" the right file type? Also, should I edit
the convert.conf file and add a new conversion?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC Real Audio Stream Issue

2008-10-20 Thread jimi00

A podcast... why didnt I think of this before? I successfully downloaded
the rm media file with clut and the header indicates
"xaudio/x-pn-realaudio". I haven't tried playing it yet with the SB3
(we'll see tonight when I come home) but it should help things that the
file is now locally present. I guess I'll just slip it into my Music
Folder. Any advice before I make a fool of myself thinking this should
work?

Just a thought. When I use Real Player 11 for Mac OS X to play the
stream, it indicates that the type is HTTP. Couldn't we add HTTP to the
custom-types.conf and the custom-convert.conf files?

Thank you but no luck. I get an "error=connect timed out: invalid
argument" message on the SB3 display using the rstp url.
Hum, BTW, I can actually get mplayer to play the stream locally with
the http OR the rstp URL.
I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that the rm file
is audio and that the server expects it to be a playlist.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC Real Audio Stream Issue

2008-10-18 Thread jimi00

Hello,

I have been trying to get this to play on my SB3 with SC 7.2.1 and
AlienBBC on Mac OS X 10.5.5 :
http://www.aligrefm.org/player/Substitute.rpm
It's a Real Audio playlist that links to :
http://aligrefm2.free.fr/Substitute/Substitute2.rm

I have properly installed AlienBBC to do so and all the default BBC
streams actually play just fine.
I can even get mplayer to locally play
http://aligrefm2.free.fr/Substitute/Substitute2.rm

When I paste either of these URLs into "Tune In URL", I get a "Checking
Stream..." message on the SB3 display, and half a second later the
following message appears: "Error:No items found in playlist".

When I first tried, I had WAV streamed to the SB3 to save CPU cycles.
How foolish of me :)
With FLAC it works out of the box like a charm.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Cdplayer Plugin and DTS CD

2008-09-20 Thread jimi00

Actually, these DTS cds are just like Red Book Audio except with DTS
instead of PCM encoded in the tracks (i'm not sure i'm technically
correctly expressing myself). There is a thread on these forums on
ripping these DTS CDs to flac and then having the SB2 or SB3 passing
the data to the digital output:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24714
I guess it could be possible to have cdda2wav convert to flac before
sending the stream to the SB3... in fact, I'm trying it right NOW!!
IT WORKS!!
I dont even have to rip my whole dts cd collection!

BPA, you rule! Thinking about re-writing the cdplayer plugin with
cdparanoia as the ripper? Anyone wants to join in?
Actually I dont really have the proper pre-requisite to help with the
right syntax. Bummer.

Oh, could cdparanoia do it then?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Cdplayer Plugin and DTS CD

2008-09-20 Thread jimi00

I find it hard to believe that no one has tried passing dts audio from a
dts cd with the cdplayer plugin to their SB3 or SB2. I just tried it one
my system and I get white noise in my receiver plugged to the digital
out of the SB3. Has anyone else tried this? Am I overlooking an issue
which should prevent this from working properly?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Req:Mac OS X version of WaveInput

2008-07-30 Thread jimi00

I dont know if killall works on os x but here's a workaround... if I
select to play another playlist altogether instead of stopping the
current track being played by cdplayer, then it seams cdda2wav quits
properly.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Req:Mac OS X version of WaveInput

2008-07-30 Thread jimi00

Just a little followup... the CDlayer plugin works just fine on my
Macbook Pro with Mac OS X thanks to your installation instructions.
There is one caveat though. The cdda2wav process is not properly quit
by the plugin after cd ejection. As a matter of fact, it even continues
using CPU cycles (about 10% on my 2.2 GHZ Intel Core2Duo). I have to
kill the process by hand.

Actually, I was trying to stream lossless audio from my internal cd
player and I just found the thread on the CDPlayer plugin you created.
Looking forward to test it as soon as I get home tonight. Thank you.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Req:Mac OS X version of WaveInput

2008-07-29 Thread jimi00

I notice there has been recent advances in the linux version of the
WaveInput plugin. I am just dying to see lossless audio broadcasting on
mac os x, unfortunately I dont have the knowledge to do so. Could
someone throw an eye on the linux version and see if an easy port is
possible? Thanks to the slim community.
