Hi. Does Squeeze Ctrl allow use of Erlands Dynamic Playlists plugins?
Sorry if this is covered somewhere but I checked around here and your

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2015-02-10 Thread magee35

Custom Scan seems to be working correctly now. I specified both tags to
look for, changed the maximum rating to 5 (I thought 100 was a max
percentage or something...), and checked the Scan All box.

Does the Scan All run when you Rescan Media Library/Look for new and
changed media files or only when selecting Scan All in the Custom
Scan plugin? You can see I'm still confused about what happens when in
LMS and these plugins.

I will try making various trackstat playlists for a few days. The two I
tried out today seem fine, both based on Advanced With Rating. I am sure
I will be purchasing a license from Erland soon.

Thank you!

I did notice the difference between mp3 files tags showing RATING WMP
and the FLAC files tags showing RATING. I also double checked the
settings in Custom Scan/Module Settings for Ratings Tag and see it set
to look for RATING. I can't figure out why it recognized the MP3 files

Here is the configuration. I have not changed anything since I ran

run the Custom Scan again tonight.

I finally had a chance to make a new SQL playlist and try it out. I
selected create new playlist; Advanced with rating and followed the
instructions in the Setup Smart Playlists wiki except that I selected
Rock genre instead of Pop. So it should play all 5 star rated Rock songs
in my library? Instead it is playing only mp3 files from my library and
no Flac files. Also, it is playing both 4 and 5 star rated Rock songs.
Is there a setting in Custom Scan that would allow making ratings tags
in Mp3 files but not for Flac files?

I turned off the UPNP plugin and the subscribe/unsubscribe error stopped
in the server log.

Thanks.

I am starting to get worried that I wasted a lot of time applying
ratings to individual songs when I ripped my CDs. When you pop a CD in
with dbpoweramp running it looks at some online ratings and shows stars
(1-5) displayed near each song on the CD. I took these as a starting
point and went ahead and adjusted ratings up or down as I saw fit. When
I had done so to all the songs on the CD I went ahead and ripped to FLAC
files on a HD. I looked at the files with windows explorer and saw the
rating stars I had assigned were displayed by the songs so thought I was
good. I probably have ratings that are not in tags but elsewhere??

You may be right about Random Playlist plugin. I recollect an early
Erland plugin that jazzed up the standard Random Mix playlist generator.
Might be losing my mind too. My hair is sure going fast.

I need to sulk awhile now. Might just give up and go back to listening
to internet radio. :(

2015-02-04 Thread magee35

Hi again.

So rereading the Erland Wiki for setup smart playlists again and I see
that Trackstat Plugin is indeed *needed for rating based Playlists*.
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Setup_smart_playlists

I added Trackstat to my plugins at the extension downloader. Then got
the licensing straight for it.

Going back to that smart setup page in the Wiki I decided to use the
example to make a *Top rated pop songs* which should play random that
have a rating of 4 and above and belong to the Pop genre.

Open Extras/SQL Playlist in the web interface
Select Create new playlist
Select playlist type : Advanced with rating
Enter playlist parameters

- Playlist name: Top rated pop songs
- Minimum rating:
- Include genres: Mark pop deselect everything else

Click next
Change parameters

- Filename: topratedpopsongs.sql.values

Click save to store the changes

So I went Dynamic Playlists and I found the new Top rated pop songs
playlist at the end of the list.
I highlighted this new playlist and clicked play - nothing happens.
The right panel continues to say empty, no playlist is generated,
nothing happens. Tried this several times with same result. Tried Save
and play and still nothing happens.

I don't know what the problem might be now. Any ideas??

Another way of getting ratings is to use a Rating tag in your files and
scan with Custom Scan. I am a bit unclear on whether trackstat can work
without Custom Scan in that case. I suggest you ask Erland (the

I have lots of 4 and 5 star rated pop songs in my library. The ratings
were assigned by dppoweramp when I ripped my CDs to my HD. Also assigned
genre at same time with dbpoweramp. The ratings and genres show up in

Years ago, when Erlans's pluging were free, I was able to play songs
based on genre and ratings. I think the plugin was Random Playlist

Am hoping Erland will take a look in here. :)

playing just fine.

Last pics I was trying to show what happens when I try to start on a
Create New Playlist/Download More Playlists. If I choose any of the
playlists on that page I never get to a page where I can select options
based on any selectable parameters. When I choose Save or Save and PLay
it just dumps me back on the first SQL Playlists page with no new
playlist in evidence. I am trying to stay away from Customize SQL and
use Predefined. The Erland Wiki articles seem to indicate that the
predefined should be just fine for beginners...

Maybe I do need to install one or more additional plugins? The Wikis
seem to indicate they are optional. I had them all loaded up at one time
but I was so confused that I thought I should get rid of the extras and
start with basics of Dynamic and SQL plugins only. I will try to
reinstall trackstat plugin and see if that is what I need.

Have you tried to run it? What doesn't it do that you want to do?

Yep, Random Rated Songs is in the list on the first page after selecting
SQL Playlsit. It does work fine. It allows to select genres but not
ratings. It does have the option to select which percentage tracks rated
less than *** (50) to include. I want to be able to select only *
rated songs, or perhaps *** and above rated songs.

When creating a new playlist you aren't asked about the runtime options
 - you enter these at runtime.

I don't know what that means. I never seem to get to a place where
Advanced type playlists actually run. When I select to Save and Play it
just loops back to the first page under SQL Playlists and there is no
new playlist there with advance options.

other ideas you have when I return tonight.

Thank you for the help!

and add POP to the name:
17285

Then click save I get here:
17286

so click Next to get here:
17287

then click Save and play and it loops back to here with no new
playlist POPadvancedwithrating:
17288

I don't ever get a chance to make a new playlist with the ratings and
genre I want to choose. Sorry again for long posting. Any help
appreciated for where I am going wrong.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2015-02-02 Thread magee35

I have been attempting to get the SQL Plugin to work for me off and on
for several days now. I am getting mixed results at best. First off, I
have unchecked all of Erland's Plugins on the express DL page except for
Dynamic Playlist, SQL Playlist, and License Manager. I am attempting to
keep it as simple as possible so I can make progress and see expected
results. Maybe I need more plugings other than those 3 to get it working
correctly? Here is what I see going through attempting to get some
playlists to run...

First here is SQL settings:
17280

And here is Dynamis Playlist settings:
17281

Here is what I see when I click Extras; SQL Playlists in the web
interface:
17282

As you can see there are several random type playlists available here
and I can successfully edit them and save them with more descriptive
names. They then run just fine - Random SONGS in genres FOLK and FOLK
ROCK is playing in above screen shot.. Unfortunately none of those
random type playlists in the first SQL screen above includes an option
for selecting by my assigned ratings.

Here is what I see when I click on Create New Playlist in the above:
17283

Why do those in the first column all have (delete) after them?

I can then click on Download More Playlists and get a long list of
more playlists, some of which apparently require additional plugins to
work. Here's what I see:
17284

Okay this seems great. I can follow the instructions on SQL Plugin Wiki
to Create and use smart playlist.. except it doesn't work for some
reason. When I click Advanced with rating I get this screen where I go
ahead and add POP to the name:

Gonna have to make a new post to use more pics I see now. Sorry for all
the pics, don't know to explain and give useful (?) info without the
pics though.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2015-01-29 Thread magee35

I hate to post into this thread with entry-level beginner's questions
but don't seem to be attracting any attention here:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?102994-Help-with-plugins-for-Squeezebox

I would like to buy plugin(s) that allow playing from my music library
in random sequence based on genre and assigned rating stars. I ripped my
CD collection using dbPoweramp as FLAC files and assigned a genre and a
rating of 1-5 stars to each song.

I used to be able to play random songs based on those assigned ratings
and genres several years ago. I believe Erland's plugins were free then
and I think I was using Random Playlist Plugin. I see that plugin is
still available for download at Erland's site but not much updated. It
does not show up in Extension Downloader so I downloaded and unzipped it
into the squeezebox plugins directory. Also checked Dynamic Playlist and
License Manager in extension downloader and got those going with
temporary trials. I cannot figure out how to get Random Playlist Plugin
to work. Don't see it anywhere on the Squeezebox or in the LMS web
control. I do see Dynamic Playlist on the web control.

I have LMS at 7.8.0, is that a problem for Random Playlist Plugin? I
have LMS and my music library running on a Windows Vista pc.

Thanks.

I don't know the Random Playlist plugin. The Dynamic Playlist plugin
does support Random play. Select it in the menu, then Random, For
Selected, Top Rated Songs in Genre, and set your genre and rating. This
may not be quite what you want but should get you going. Take a look
round the various menu items and see if any if your need. If none quite
do, you can save the closest match and customise it to suit (use the
Customize SQL option) If you don't know any, or sufficient, SQL and
get stuck, ask on this thread, including the closest match code and
saying what you want it to do, and someone may be able to help.

LMS 7.9 has Random Mix built in but it does not use ratings.

Thanks much for the quick reply. Was hoping that Random Playlist Plugin
was still viable as it was simple. I need simple as am having trouble
finding more than 15 minutes at a time to focus on this. The SQL stuff
looks complex and I did try a time or two with no joy. If Random Play
Plugin is no-go anymore then I will attempt the SQL stuff again and post
what results I get.

I love that so many very bright people are continuing to keep this
community alive. I have not posted much but usually find answers here
for my questions. :)
