Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2012-04-07 Thread philly4

I have my system set up to suspend after 60 min of no activity. After
upgrading to 7.7.2, LMS would no longer suspend with no activity. After
doing some trouble shooting, I figured out that the Lazy Search plugin
was the culprit. After uninstalling Lazy Search, everything works
perfectly again. I never had a problem with 7.6 or anything before.
Somehow SvrPowerControl was getting info from it that there was activity
and therefore not going to suspend. Anyone else run into this issue?
Any workarounds? Windows XP SP, 3 LMS 7.7.2 - r33893, Lazy Search
v3.5.6. Thanks for any help.

I'm having the same issues with SrvPowerControl. Does anyone have a
work around? Is it just that LazySearch needs to be updated? Thanks.
Love the plugin.

philippe_44,

First thanks so much for this plugin. I have it set up connecting to a
Sonos One. While it works great a lot of the time, it seems to pause to
buffer or stop all together quite often. This is both when playing from
Pandora or my local music but seems worse with Pandora. Before the
plugin with my just my boom everything seemed rock solid.

Is there any settings in the plug-in which might fix this or make it
more stable? I tried to increase the buffer to 3000 ms but that didn't
seem to improve things any.

Running server on Windows 10 Pro 1803 with LMS 7.9.1 with plugin
0.4.8.0.

When playing a song, the sound will stop, and then ~5-10 seconds later
resume. Other times, the sound with stop and it will not resume until I
click on "next track" either on LMS web control or via the app I have on
my phone. If I have my Sonos sync'd with my Boom, the Boom will
sometimes display buffering when the sound stops. The buffering display
on the Boom I've only noticed when playing a Pandora stream. Clicking
next track seems to "fix" the issue 90% of the time. I've had to power
off and power on and restart the plugin the other ~10% of the time.
When playing music from my local library it I havn't noticed the buffer
issue, but just the song stops mid stream and doesn't resume until user
input of some sort.

All plugin settings are default except for the audio buffer which I've
set to 3000...but it doesn't seem to be significantly different from the
default of 1000 ms. I've tried changing most of the settings and havn't
noticed any significant difference.

I'll try LMS 7.9.2 and see if that makes a difference.

I do not have a UPnP bridge installed. The only way for LMS to "see"
the Sonos is with the AirPlay plugin. I'm not an expert on what AirPlay
version my Sonos supports vs. what your plugin supports however. But it
is a Sonos One.

My initial testing with LMS 7.9.2 has been positive for local music so
far.

Are you sure your firewall isn't blocking something? My Sonos One had
not sound output until I tinkered with my firewall. I'd assume Sonos
would have the same/similar software/firmware for their Airplay support
for both the Sonos One and Beam but perhaps its different.

What other Airplay players do you have working? Airplay players that
you are controlling via an iPhone (or similar) or Airplay players that
you have working via Airplay Bridge through LMS?

If your Beam is accessible via upnp bridge it does NOT mean that your
firewall won't block it if you try it though Airplay bridge.

Basically, your firewall needs to let the Airplay helper through...which
is not used if you use Airplay directly with an iPhone. It's also not
used if you use upnp bridge.

Depends on your network setup and which firewalls you use. If your
firewall is the issue, it's most likely firewall of the OS which LMS is
running. If your LMS is running on Windows, it's likely the Windows
firewall for example.

@philippe_44

After testing out with LMS 7.9.2 latest nightly for one day, (and
uninstalling and reinstalling AirPlay Bridge) it seems to work better,
but I'm still getting some issues that my best guess are from the
plugin.

When I didn't have the AirPlay Bridge plugin installed and I listened to
Pandora through my Boom, I never noticed a cutout or any imperfection
for several hours. Then, I installed the AirPlay Bridge and listened to
Pandora on the Sonos One. After listening for an hour or so, on average
, every third song I would get a short (about one second or less)
cutout. Then during a song which I didn't like, I clicked on next track
(via the web control) and it played about 2 seconds of the new track and
then stopped playing. After waiting about 1 min, I clicked next track
again and it started playing a new track.

Overall it is working better for me now than it did when I was on LMS
7.9.1.

I was using all the default settings on the plugin.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Soundicity - SB Controller App for Windows Phone 7.5/8

2013-06-30 Thread philly4

I have a few comments for the app. Overall, I'd say a really good
start:

1. It would be nice if you could type in the host name instead of the
raw IP address in hostname setup. I'm not sure how difficult this is or
if it's impossible.
2. It would be nice if the app was able to retrieve lyrics without
additional 3rd party plugins required on the server. I know other apps
do this pretty well.
3. The home menu is a little cluttered to me. It just has too much
small text. Since the app opens to the home menu, it should have the
most used options as the most prominent. It would be nice if it had
icons and/or it could either be customized better somehow (like remove
“radio” as I never use it).

Things I would recomend:
a. Remove the app gallery from the home menu. It can be put in the “my
apps” submenu like it is in the web interface. This isn't something
that most people use on a daily basis. It doesn't need to take up space
on the home screen.
b. Remove favorites. There’s already an icon for favorites at the
bottom on the screen. There isn’t text for “albums” or “artists”, so
why have it for favorites.
c. Add icons to all the text.
d. Possibly add a home menu customize section in the settings to display
or hide any of the home menu entries.

Marc, thanks for the response. I wasn't thinking of using the icons
from the server. I was thinking of using icons kinda like the ones at
the bottom for favorites etc. Ones in line with the metro feel. I
don't think the server ones fit very well. Kinda like the apps have
icons next to them in the apps page.

At any rate, that was the least important part of the ideas I had. I'm
excited to see you implement some of the other changes. Really nice app
overall.

Thanks Marc for the updates. I think those make the app really nice.
Certainly the best one are the windows phone market. It's awesome to
have a developer who is so responsive.

A few more requests/suggestions now that I have played around with it a
little more.
1. It would be nice to use the windows phone time interface to set the
alarm clock rather than manually type a time in. Just like setting an
alarm on the actual phone.
2. I don't know if I don't understand the search on the app or if it has
bugs, but it doesn't work like I would think it would. It seems to only
work for song titles for me for songs in my music library, but to use it
I have to specify after I type my search that I want to look in my music
library and specifically for songs. If I search for an artist, nothing
is returned.
3. You've probably already worked on this, so I'm not sure how much more
can be done. It's probably better with a faster phone...but if you
could speed up time it takes to open the app to be able to start using
it, that will always improve the user experience. It currently takes
about 4-5 seconds on my Nokia Lumia 710 running windows 7.8.

Thanks again for the great work so far.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Soundicity - SB Controller App for Windows Phone 7.5/8

2013-07-10 Thread philly4

One more thing to follow up with the alarm. I tried to set the alarm
time yesterday and I typed 0440 instead of 04:40 like I should have. I
hit enter and it messed up the alarm on my Boom. No matter what I did
with trying to set and reset the alarm, I could not get the alarm icon
to show up on the Boom screen and the alarm function wouldn't work.
Restarting the server didn't fix it. I had to delete all the server
settings in the advanced tab to fix it.

I'll know to never do that again, but I think there's a bug with the
server with how it handles an invalid string being passed to to. So,
the app at least probably needs a way to verify a valid string is being
passed to the server.

Marc. I tested a little farther and I think I found the issue. It does
have to do with Soundicity sending the wrong string. I searched for
"Dave" and went on to search Artists. It worked as it should. I then
backed out and searched again. This time I searched for "Before". I
went on to select Albums. No results. I then searched for "Before"
again and selected Artists and it showed me the results of the search
for "Dave". It seems like the string isn't being updated all the time
for some reason which is why I had the issue earlier as well. Hope that
helps.

2008-12-23 Thread philly4

I'd love to get this plugin working as it's exactly what I'm looking
for, given that the default prevent sys standby plugin only works for
windows. I'm very new to linux so the reason I need help is probably
just user error (i.e. me, not a bug)

I'm relatively confidant that my only problem is setting the
permissions so that squeezecenter can shutdown/suspend etc. Can
someone post an idiots guide to do this for ubuntu/xubuntu. Any
further confirmation on other ubuntu setup specifics would also be
appriciated, (what folders to copy things to etc.) but I'm pretty sure
it's just the permissions thing.

I've read through the provided readme and debian guide with no luck. I
couldn't get the provided setup script to work. It just gave me errors.
Thanks so much for any help.

Yes, actually it should be much shorter. I'm in the process of setting
up a new server. At the moment I only have 1 song in my library to test
with. After things are set up, I was going to transfer the entire
library over the network.

Also, I have the AutoRescan Plugin which auto rescans automatically
when music is added to the music library folders. Could this be
causing a conflict. It's only supposed to initiate a rescan when your
music library is changed.

Yes, the idle monitor started working as soon as I added something to
the music library and restarted squeezecenter.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-01-09 Thread philly4

Could someone please explain the difference between the default
suspend/hibernate etc. commands given with this plugin (pm-utils) and
the default commands in Xubuntu, or are they the EXACT same? Thanks.

Xubuntu default:
/usr/sbin/pmi action sleep
/usr/sbin/pmi action hibernate

Thanks. I've tried both and can't tell the difference between the two.
I am having a bit of a problem with both, but I think it's a much
"deeper" issue with xubuntu. Everything works great as long as I have
monitor, mouse, and keyboard connected to the computer. But I'm trying
to run it as a server, and I'm getting some funny behavior when the
computer wakes up from sleeping for a long time without those things
connected.

the only place I have noticed it is in the svrpowrctrl plugin page, but
for me it was both in windows and ubuntu. But now for whatever reason
it's only "bad" in ubuntu.
