[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alexa to LMS

2019-07-09 Thread bc-nero

Hello!

I would like to bring the music output of my Echo Dot2 to the LMS to
stream into the players.

My system:
Ubuntu homeserver
6 USB sound cards
6 squeezelite instances on the homeserver for each room
Alexa connected to the mic-front connector

Unfortunately, trying with Wavein always failed at Pulseaudio, every
time I remove Pulseaudio, the system becomes unstable.

Has anyone ever done this and can give me a short and easy instruction?

The control by Alexa would be nice too, but getting the sound in LMS
would also be a great thing!

THANK YOU

It can work with Pulseaudio just a bit harder to do so not shor & easy.

You have not provided any details of the OS being used (ie. version of
Ubuntu) , the LMS server hardware nor the input device ("mic connector"
is not a descirption also possibility of impedence/level mismatch -
Line-in is usual ) being used - so it is hard to give any clear
instructions without details.

Try the input via one of the USB Soundcards instead

Are you saying the Alexa/Echo Dot is to be plugged into a RPi2 and that
will feed your LMS ?

If so then install piCorePlayer 5 onto the Pi, disable Squeezelite but
enable pcp-streamer.
Use a USB DAC/ADC such as Behringer UAC202 -
https://www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/Behringer-UCA202-Audio-Interface/79E?origin=product-ads&campaign=PLA+Shop+-+GENERIC&adgroup=GENERIC&medium=vertical_search&network=google&merchant_id=1279443&product_id=9410d1&product_country=GB&product_partition_id=638853982722&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIp8C5s5Go4wIVbb7tCh06AgsrEAQYASABEgIvVvD_BwE
Feed output of Alexa via the USB to Pi and then Tune In URL on LMS in
the form designated under "more" where it says pcp-streamer
There is some lag and you can only connect one player or one
synchronised group

Altrentively using the same hardware but Raspbian, Liquidsoap & Icecast
you can build a similar streamer which does support multiple streams and
seems more stable to me -

Hi,

Is it arm or x86 ?
What version of Ubuntu ?
What version of LMS ?

...see #4

"pacmd list-sources" from homeserver = Attachment

But I would prefer the same DAC (as the ones from the homeserver) from
the raspberry2 right in front of alexa. Homeserver is 15m away :-(

I think I will try #7 tomorrow - I hope I am able to do it.

But if someone else has a good idea, then I like to take it! Thank
you!!!

I think you describe what you want/need rather than asking for a
solution you think might work.

Since LMS can play any station Alexa can play.
Do you really want Alexa control of an SB player ?
or
Do you want to hear Alexa response etc through your LMS system (e.g.
synced through many SB players) ?
or
something else

I would like to distribute the sound of Alexa over LMS to the players.
But if there is a solution here that can be used to control the LMS by
voice, then of course that would be even better. But with step 1 I would
be very satisfied!

OK.

You should have pulseaudio-utils installed - this package includes the
"parec" command used to record Pulseaudio sources.
You should also have Pulseaudio GUI applications under menu "Sound &
Video" "PulseAudio Volume Control" & "Pulse Audio Volume Meter
(Capture)"

First it is necessary to make sure you are getting audio on the correct
input and that you can record audio from the input.

Plug a sound source into the audio in and make there is continuous audio
(e.g a radio station)

Using "Pulse Audio Volume Meter (Capture)" - on the working port the
meters should be moving - find which pulse audio device is the one you
are using.
If No port show activity use "PulseAudio Volume Control" to look at
input devices and make sure volume level is right to show activity.

The command to record a WAV file form audio input is as follows.

Code:

  parec --file-format=wav -d alsa_input.pci-_00_1b.0.analog-stereo test.wav

After record about 30 secs - stop the program and try to play the
test.wav file to confirm the audio has been recorded.

The input device (i.e. the devices start with "alsa_input") you use
will depend on your system. A short list of valid device names (Igore
any "monitor" devices) will be shown using

Code:

  pactl list short sources

@bpa

Your answer is based on the source (Echo Dot) being adjacent to his
server.
I have read the OPs posts differently i.e. I have read them to mean his
Echo Dot is in his Living Room 15 metres away.
It sounds to me like the server is a central system with 6 USB DAC
outputs presumably wired to 6 sets of speakers located in various rooms
of his house.
I would imagine that he wants the Echo Dot in the Living Room so he can
voice control it.

I think the OP needs to clarify exactly what it is he is trying to do.

but let's work through it.

I'm not sure your skill level skill but for Alexa to control LMS there
is the thread

However, it is a very technical solution. There is another Alexa LMS
integration but using house automation system

The same command to record is the one that will be used by LMS to copy
the sound to player.
If you don't have a working record command - there is no point wasting
time booting / rebooting LMS.

NO

Run from a shell prompt - this has nothing to do with LMS. It is
necessary to verify it works on your system without any LMS.

The pcp-streamer method does have a 10 second or so lag and I have found
that the sound stutters a bit for a minute or so before it settles down.
It will only accept one connection.

The Raspbian, Liquidsoap, Icecast2 method on the other hand has no
stutter and less of a lag circa 3-4 seconds and will accept multiple
connections. It is more fiddly to set up but I believe a better solution
if you want something remote from the LMS server.

I assume this means you were able to record audio into a file and play
it back OK.

Now to modify LMS to use parec (which is PulaseAudio record) instead of
the default arecord (which is ALSA record)

1. Locate the Wavinput plugin - it will be installed in a Cache
directory ending with the following.
*Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/WaveInput* . You can find location of
the Cache folder/directory from the WebUI Settings/Info page
2. Stop LMS
3. Backup the custom-convert.conf file in the Plugins/WaveInput
directory
4. Edit the custom-convert.conf file to look like the following - make
sure you use a tab not spaces before the "[parec]" and "# R"

Code:

  #
  # wavin
  #
  wavin pcm * *
# R
[parec] --file-format=raw --format=s16le --rate=44100 --channels=2 -d
$FILE$
  wavin mp3 * *
# RB:{BITRATE=-B %B}
[parec] --file-format=wav --format=s16le -d $FILE$ | [lame] --silent -q
$QUALITY$ -v $BITRATE$ - -
  wavin flc * *
# R
[parec] --file-format=wav --format=s16le -d $FILE$ | [flac] -cs
--totally-silent --compression-level-0 -

5. Save the changes and make sure the owner and group of
custom-convert.conf is the same as all other files in the WaveInput
directory
6. Now you need to make sure the userid which runs LMS has permission to
use PulseAudio and access Audio hardware. This is done by adding the
userid which runs LMS (usually squeezeboxserver but check) to the groups
pulse, pulse-access and audio. The following command should work

Code:

  sudo usermod -aG audio squeezeboxserver
  sudo usermod -aG pulse squeezeboxserver
  sudo usermod -aG pulse-access squeezeboxserver

7. Start LMS and check that WaveInput is installed OK (i.e. WebUI
Setting/Advanced/FileTypes and look at WaveInput entries - should all be
valid and have parec)
8. Create a Favorite in LMS for the input device (i.e. in the URL box
put *wavin:alsa_input.pci-_00_1b.0.analog-stereo* )
9. Apply test music to Line-in and test new Favorite

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alexa to LMS

2019-07-12 Thread bc-nero

Thanks, but unfortunately it still does not work ...

I did everything as written, Waveinput also shows:

Wave input
FLAC = parec / flac
MP3 = parec / lame
PCM = parec

But if I start the favorite with "wavin:
alsa_input.pci-_00_1b.0.analog-stereo", then it starts for 1-3
seconds and then stops again, without even having played one sound ...

Another idea?

Thanks Thomas

The clock is started when you press play - it means nothing specific -
just a timer.

Timer running for 3-10 secs and stops usually means parec or lame or
flac have failed or device name is wrong or that permissions weren't
set.

Sometime permission changes need a system reboot to take effect.

To check parec etc. - enable logging player.source to INFO and try to
play the Favorite. After timer has stopped look at server.log file and
copy the lines the look like the following to a post. - your output may
indicate the cause

The test prove that Pulseaudio is working for a logged in user (i.e. not
a service) and somewhere there is a device that is correct.
When LMS is run in a service the Pulseaudio device names may change
according to what devices are available to the LMS process. I need to
check how to get devices name available to a LMS in a service.

OK - everything is as expected.

I think I see the problem - it looks like parec doesn't like piping WAV
output.

I'll have to look for an alternative to parec.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alexa to LMS

2019-07-13 Thread bpa

I dislike PulseAudio intensely - it solves problems that 99% of users
don't have but makes life more complicated.

For some reason parec will not pipe its output so a quick and dirty
solution is to use "arecord" with an environment variable "PULSE_SOURCE"
but that requires a shell script as LMS syntax doesn't support
variables.

Attached are 2 files in a zip file becuase forums doesn't support the
file types as attachments,
custom-convert.conf
pulse.sh

the custom-convert.conf now calls a shell script pulse.sh instead of
parec. Also I have omitted mp3 encoding as I think it is not required.
the pulse.sh script has to be put into the WaveInput Bin directory with
same owner/group as resot of plugin but also it must be made executable
(i.e. chmod +x pulse.sh)

1. Stop LMS
2. Download attached zip file and unzip - 2 files pulse.sh &
custom-convert.conf
3. Copy pulse.sh into WaveInput/Bin directory. Change owner & group to
same as plugin and make file executable.
4. Copy custom-convert.conf into the WaveInput plugin directory
5. Start LMS
6. Check Filetype for WaveInput are "pulse.sh" and "pulse.sh/flac". If
they are disabled then pulse.sh is not exectuable or accessible by LMS -
fix and restart LMS if necesssary
7. Try playing wavin Fvaorite

By default LMS will choose Flac - this will typically have a 3-5 sec
delay.
If you disable Flac WaveInput FileType (i.e. only PCM is enabled) - the
delay will be around 1 sec but will be a heavy network load if sending
stream to many synced players .

Increasing sampling rate (e.g. 44100 to 9600) for Flac stream may reduce
delay as delay is caused by time to compress dependent on compression
CPU time and rate of data collected.

Before you go further with PulseAudio, I presume you tried using
WaveInput with ALSA devices - it doesn't always require PulseAudio to be
uninstalled.

I guess you had tried ALSA because you said you tried to uninstall
Pulseaudio.

Was that a test with WaveInput before you gave LMS user permission to
access "Audio" hardware by making userid a member of audio group ?

To get the right device - you first do a test like you did with parec.

1. Find all the possible input device with "arecord -l"(the option
is lower case letter L not digit 1). Output will be like

Code:

   List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices

Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1

2. play audio into input port
3. Record the input into a wav file - example with CARD=0 and DEV=2

Code:

restarted for custom-convert.conf changes to take effect)
