Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: KitchenTimer - set multiple countdown timers
I would love to use this plugin with "Jive-powered" players like the Radio that resides my kitchen :) I am well aware that it is currently a feature that is not planned, but squeezeboxes with nice big displays uses Jive these days. Would it be hard work to extent the support of this plugin? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: KitchenTimer - set multiple countdown timers
Peter - I want to start with I love your timer. It has turned my boom into the ultimate companion to brewing. I set timers for each time I need to do something and then just let them roll. I did have an issue last night that I wanted to let you know about though, but I haven't tried to reproduce it. I set my first timer for 75 minutes, then another for 45 minutes, a third for 60 minutes, and a fourth for 70...the problem I ran into was that when scrolling through the timers the first and last were always visible, the second was rarely visible and the 3rd was occasionally visible. When the second timer went off I was not able to cancel it for almost 5 minutes and I ended up having to cancel other timers to get to it. As I was fiddling with it I was thinking, a web interface to these timers would really be the ultimate way to set them up and to not have to worry about these types of issues. If I could sit down and type in "add hops" or something on each timer I would be in heaven. Thanks again for a great plug-in -- Jonnio Jonnio's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18575 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52710 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

I've given that some thought, but haven't come up with a good plan. I think of this as "linking" timers, and it seems to me there are two different ways timers would normally be linked. For tasks like flipping, turning, stirring, etc., you'd want the second timer to start when the first ran out, even if you didn't immediately indicate that you'd done the flip/turn/stir task. For tasks like "now that the dough has risen, punch it down and start baking the loaf", you don't want the second timer starting until you've done the first task. I think linkages should probably be fully usable (meaning creating & managing them, too) from the player/VFD UI. I'm not sure how best to do that, or if it's worth the effort (for me). :-/ Sue -- thanks, as always, for the success story! -Peter -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ free plugins: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/#slim AllQuiet BlankSaver ContextMenu FuzzyTime KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52710 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: KitchenTimer - set multiple countdown timers
pre14 is now up. As of pre13, KitchenTimer does not use the SqueezeCenter 7.2 alarm code. This makes it work better, and it should work OK in SqueezeCenter 7.0 and 7.1, too. As of pre14, there's a KitchenTimer screensaver mode. This is most useful in conjunction with SaverSwitcher -- for instance, you can set your Squeezebox to normally show only Date and Time, but alternate between Date and Time and KitchenTimer if that player has any active or paused timers. It doesn't use the SC7 alarm code unless your SB is silent when the alarm goes off. And there are more settings you can change if you're willing to edit the Plugin.pm file (up next is making these accessible through the web UI). You'll want to change $fluctuateIfSilent to 0. Available settings: Code: my $minDuration = 15; # shortest number of SECONDS we allow a timer for my $twoMinutes = 120; # we push the client back to the countdown mode this many SECONDS before an alarm my $volChangeDuration = 2;# how often to change the volume (SECONDS) my $fluctuateIfSilent = 1;# should the volume fluctuate even if the player is silent when the alarm sounds (1==yes,0==no) my $fluctuatePercent = 66;# how extreme the fluctuation should be, 0-100 my $howLongToKeepAlarmSounding = 120; # how many MINUTES to keep ensuring the client is playing something $howLongToKeepAlarmSounding is a new enhancement -- it allows you to configure KT, unlike the SC7 alarm, to keep ensuring that your SB is playing something for at least X minutes after the alarm sounds. Setting this > 0 means you're less likely to miss an alarm because the alarm sounded soon before your playlist ended. Set it reasonably low and your neighbors won't freak out if an alarm sounds after you've left for the weekend. :-) -Peter -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ free plugins: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/#slim AllQuiet BlankSaver ContextMenu FuzzyTime KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52710 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

That is due to the SC7 alarm code -- when an alarm sounds, SC7 *always* issues 'stop' and 'play' commands. I don't know if that's intentional (another way to get your attention?). Perhaps KT should only use the SC7 alarm features if the player is off or silent when an alarm sounds? Or have the KT routine that fluctuates the volume use the SC7 alarm code if and only if there's a lapsed alarm but the player is found to be silent. That would handle both your scenario and cases like a playlist lasting just 22 seconds after the alarm sounds -- long enough to pass SC7's 20-seconds-after-firing test. SC7 doesn't ensure that the client is making noise after 20 seconds, and its 10-random-song fallback means that even players with no playlist when the alarm sounds might stop making noise after 20-30 minutes; I think I'd prefer that KT keep nagging me until I cancel or pause the KT alarm. Maybe that should be configurable, how long after an alarm fires to ensure that the player is still issuing an audible alert. Forever might be too long for my neighbors' taste. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ free plugins: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/#slim AllQuiet BlankSaver ContextMenu FuzzyTime KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52710 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

KT isn't sending any playlist commands itself, so this might be a bug with the SC7 alarm code, maybe something about stopping and/or deleting a SC7 alarm has that side effect. I generally use an Icecast MP3 stream and haven't noticed any restarts, but my kitchen player has iffy wifi coverage, so I'd probably chalk any stop+start up to wireless glitches. Another item to check out. BTW, I was NOT able to reproduce your trouble with the 2 minute warning (at least not with SoftSqueeze). The later releases add more proper debugging output (if you set the level high enough), and it does seem to be acting as I expected. There was an odd bug before pre8 or pre9 where it would sometimes schedule 2 minute warning timers when it shouldn't, but that shouldn't cause your problem. :-/ Please keep the feedback & bug reports coming! Oh, one known bug in the lastest rev: if you save a timer, run it, and shorten or lengthen that run of the timer, and then choose "Delete and cancel", KT will cancel the run but not delete the custom timer. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ free plugins: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/#slim AllQuiet BlankSaver ContextMenu FuzzyTime KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52710 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

As discussed on the Boom forum and mentioned in my .sig, I have a new plugin available that I call KitchenTimer. It lets you set per-player countdown timers that use visual and audible alerts to get your attention. I just posted the "pre5" release, which now includes the ability to name/save timers for nicer countdown displays and reuse.
