[SlimDevices: Plugins] Guide to installing BBC iPlayer

2017-07-18 Thread AndyBeevers

Please could you someone provide me with some simple advice on how to
install BBC iplayer.

I am using picoreplayer 3.20. I have installed the bbciplayer that is on
the list of plugins. It plays live ( has no icons) but does not play the
non-live areas. I assume I need to update the plugin to the latest. Not
sure how I do this - do I take the xml URL link and put it in the extra
repositories and then apply and then re-boot? This does not appear to
work

I have read through many of the threads but with the hundreds of
responses it is difficult to follow. Using picoreplayer - do I need to
save anything before I reboot? How does the selection of the plugin get
from in memory onto disk so it can be read when re-booted

So in summary if someone out there can give me a quick guide that would
be great.

This thread is dead and has been for a number of years.

To search for current BBCiplayer use something like following on google
*site:forums.slimdevices.com bbciplayer 2018*

The current support thread fopr BBCiplayer and BBCiplayerExtra is
*https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?109826-BBCiPlayer-V1-6-(and-higher)-amp-BBCiPlayerExtra-2-0-(and-higher)-Support*

*Do not post on this thread as all it does it make it appear high &
current on search engines*

2017-07-18 Thread castalla

Here:

1. Unistall existing iplayer - uncheck on active plugins list - apply
(wait for message to restart)

2. Restart LMS (or reboot)

3 Add to Additional repos

Code:

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/bpaplugins/V154testrelease-repo.xml

  - Apply

4. bpa's Squeezecenter Plugins v1.5.4.4 test repo section should appear
at bottom of plugins page

5, Check the new plugins you want - Apply (wait for message)

6. Restart LMS

7. New plugin(s) should appear in Active plugins list

8. Inspect and amend any settings for the new plugin(s)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Guide to installing BBC iPlayer

It is better to use this repo

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/bpaplugins/betarelease-repo.xml

The V154 repo will only ever stay on V1.5.4.* and is the "experimental"
repo with latest DASH-Flac functionality whereas the betarelease will be
updated to deliver most recent stable version which is currently V1.5.3.
I expect to be able tp update this "beta" repo to 1.5.4 in a few weeks
once the DASH Flac playing has been fully tested - user will then be
automatically notified of the update..

Thank you both for your advice. I have used bpa's suggestion. Followed
Castalla's instructions and it all worked.

I did backup PiCorePlayer to disk

So once again thanks very much.

Bpa, I've had the 1.5.4 repo in place for a while, currently using
1.5.4.4 (and Extras 2.0.0). To follow your advice here, sounds like I
should switch to the beta repo (I won't actually be listening to Proms
after all). Can I do this without upset, in other words just replace the
repo in settings and thereby go "back" a version?

If it works at the moment - leave it. Going back can sometimes has
problems with preferences. If you are not using Flac then any updates to
V1.5..4.* are unlilkely to affect you.

1.5.4.* is the version which has Flac implemented. An update (soon) to
1.5.4.5 will also support the BBC live Binaural( another experiment).
User of 1.5.4.* know that each version has not been tested by others and
could have problems which may break the plugin and require another
update.

The "beta" repo ( a bit of a misnomer as the beta refers to BBCs beta
HTML5 trial not the plugin version) will deliver the latest version
which is "stable" which means any update will be to a version which has
already been tested by other users and there is unlikely to be another
update for months. So far beta repo has been 1.5.2 in November 2016 and
1.5.3 in June 2017(although 1.5.3 started testing in Feb) . The "beta"
repo also inlcude the latest version of Extra.

V1.5.4.0 started testing in April 2017. V1.5.4.4 was "released" in June
2017. As there are a few small bugs to be fixed and some performance
tweaks I expect that 1.5.4.* will be revved soon and if there are no
problems with it then by end of August - 1.5.4.6 will be put into the
"beta" repo. At which point the V154 repo becomes redundant as V1.5.4.*
branch development will be finished.

OK bpa ... I think I've got that.

So, I carry on with 1.5.4.* and its repo, but keep an eye open for when
the beta repo delivers the stable 1.5.4 (how will i know this?), and
then switch to that?
