(perldoc-produced manuals often don't). Let me know how the regress tests get on. If it sticks at this set of ports needing updating/adding I think we are probably OK with doing it now, but if we end up having to update huge chunks of Catalyst as well, we're going to need to defer until after we're done with 5.1. Comment about audio/squeezecenter which depends on DBIx::Class; it may possibly have problems with this, but it's practically unmaintanable anyway so I have to say I wouldn't worry too much about that if it's getting in your way. (if anyone is interested in picking up the squeezecenter port, I suggest moving to the internal copies of modules as much as possible, yeah it sucks, but so does keeping track of dirty dependencies on internal APIs of a subtantial proportion of the ~50 modules it needs - personally I have since switched my squeezeboxes to connecting to vortexbox running as a VM instead, mounting music by NFS, not exactly my first choice but it works really well ..)

Anyone? is it entirely too terrible to have more than one emulator for the same system? usually the different emulators can achieve some different results that maybe more desirable on one sytem. i also have a port of gens-gs, but i wouldn't want to see removals. is this where i need to put up or shut up and offer to maintain these? :) i should also get properly involved and start making commits, i will try and catch phessler@ in the next few days. -ryan

I have a port of gens-gs also, but I did not post it becuase it was limited: * It refuses to build on amd64 (configure actually exits with this as an excuse). I am guessing this is probably because no-one has yet written the assembler code in amd64 calling convention. * There is a segfault bug in mono sound in gens-gs. * Does not perform as well as dgen-sdl. In general dgen-sdl was just a better emulator for me -- that's all :) I don't see any reason why we can't have 1 genesis emulator in tree, just they should all work. We actually have sdlmess in tree, which can do megadrive emulation, but it is painfully slow. For what it is worth, my gens-gs effort is attached. The way to do things properly would be to auto-detect xv and use it, and fall back to x11 otherwise. (see xvinfo and xvctl's code, in general, you want to detect that you have an xv extension *and* that it has useful adapters. This is probably about 20 lines of code...
