There's a Bear Family CD that's split between Hank songs recorded by
others that Hank himself never recorded and tribute songs to Hank that
were recorded shortly after his death. Can't recall the name of it
offhand. And yeah, I also remember that article, but damned if I can
remember where -- could've been that dubious South Atlantic Quarterly

Well hell , it could have been Jason The Scorchers for that
matter. But Amy's original interpretation seems to make the most sense.

Isn't Earle a Texan? Wasn't Leon Payne a Texan? You never can tell... g

Trivia: "Lost Highway" was a #12 hit for Williams in 1949, but it was the B
side of a bigger (#4) hit, "You're Gonna Change (Or I'm Gonna Leave)." I
wonder if some of the former's stature isn't due to what became of Williams
afterward.

"Guitar Town" has a verse about Hank, though it would be a stretch to say
that the song is about him. In truth, it's only part of a verse:

But I heard someone calling my name one day

Steve, I'm sure there are many of them out there, but these two leap to
mind:

Tim Carroll, "I Think Hank Woulda Done It This Way"
2 versions: 1 on "Rig Rock Juke Box" (with Blue Chieftans),
the other on his Sound Asleep EP.

Mustang Lightning,
"Hank's Last Ride" (possibly titled "Cadillac Cowboy"?). There's
a fun demo version on their "Guitaro Loco" album, a studio version on some
earlier album I don't have. Kind of garage-rocabilly-twang.

Howdy all,

I'm finally back on P2 after almost a year of absence. Work and school made
it just impossible to keep up with P2. Now, I'm back in school full time to
wrap up my last semester. Great to be back, folks.

My two cents on Steve's inquiry:

From Rig Rock Juke Box

"Do It for Hank " World Famous Blue Jays
"I Think Hank Woulda Done it This Way" The Blue Chieftains

Later...

Rollin' and Ramblin' (The Death of Hank Williams) - Robin and Linda
Williams
I Wanna Ride in the Car that Hank Died In - Austin Lounge Lizards
29 - Slaid Cleaves
Country Beats the Hell Outta Me - Jerry Dale McFadden

Any others?

I dunno Yerkey, but I'll echo John's echo of Roy's comments about

amazing harmony from Tracy Nelson.

There's also "Thank You Hank" by Marshall Chapman.
