Jenni says: I PROPOSE IT SHOULD BE A PUNISHABLE OFFENSE TO COMPILE A TEN BEST LIST IN APRIL! Go outside! Get some sun! Kiss a girl I agree. The punishment should be not being allowed to post another best-of list until after December 15. (And maybe 50 lashes with a wet noodle too.) Especially if a significant percentage of your ten best haven't even been released yet. --Amy

Re: Best So Far - 99
Nice idea and I would truly like to but just went out to my car here in good old northern Utah and theres another two inches of white shit on it. It's new and it didn't come from seagulls, and more of its still flying. I guess I'll just have hang out with the cd player for another week cause it ain't supposed to snow tonight but a new colder nortern storm front should arrive late tomorrow. Oh well, the Mandy Barnett is hot enough and I'm still having trouble getting the Chris Webster to vacate a spot in carousel. No top 10 yet cause I haven't had a chance to listen to everything that will be released before Jan. 2000. Iceman ps The Tom Waits si great and the new Robert Cray (all three cuts I've had a chance listen too seems headed that way, too. Oh yeah top tens when only a month ago I was seeing us debate a thread on 1999, the year the music died. What happened? Carl asked about this band; Or I could have them confused with Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her. ...and yeah, there was a band from (Japan, I think?), at SXSW with that name. I almost skipped a bunch of shows I wanted to go to and went to "SSKHKH" out of massive curiosity but didn't. So, they're named after an XTC song??? dan n.p. Sparkle Horse Kiss Her Kiss Her

Hey there, Or I could have them confused with Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her. Did a band actually name themseleves after this XTC song? Close, either the song is Kiss Her Kiss Her and the band is Kiss Me Kiss Me or vice versa. If TMGE is who I think it is, and according to Don they are, then these guys are more electronica. Later... Yeah, Deb, it is indeed a "half-life" Jerry is referring to. A "semi-life" is the truck-driving life, as everyone on P2 knows --jr.

Terry Allen's "Salivation". It is indeed a good album, but these are the ones that are really doin' it for me so far this year: 1. Mandy Barnett - I've Got A Right To Cry (Sire) 2. Kelly Willis - What I Deserve (Rykodisc) 3. The Damnations TX - Half Mad Moon (Sire) 4. Old 97s - Fight Songs (Elektra) 5. Steve Earle the Del McCoury Band - The Mountain (E-Squared) 6. Mike Henderson the Bluebloods - Thicker Than Water (Dead Reckoning) 7. J.D. Crowe the New South - Come On Down To My World (Rounder) 8. Tom Waits - Mule Variations (Epitaph) 9. Wilco - Summerteeth (Reprise) 10. Ricky Skaggs - Ancient Tones (Skaggs Family) Honorable mentions: the Gourds, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, the Del McCoury Band, David Olney, the Roots I believe I've commented on most of 'em, 'cept Waits's new one (still experimenting, but also more based in blues and gospel than he's been in awhile, and the songwriting's as strong as ever). And I have no idea what all that bluegrass is doin' up there -- good thing the year's still young.g In fact, the whole list is pretty tentative -- #1 is head and shoulders above the rest, but I could see me switchin' most of the others around tomorrow if I was in a different mood. Anyway, three of 'em aren't even out yet -- Mandy's new one hits the stores next Tuesday the 13th, and the Old 97s and Waits albums come out two weeks later on the 27th.--don

If Don's list is any indication, perhaps Sire's efforts in the Americana vein are finally starting to pay off. There's also the Tim Carroll due out on Sire later this spring or early summer, no?? --junior
