There is no power switch. The most likely cause of no LEDs is the power
cord working loose (inside the little door on one corner); if that's not
it I have no idea.

I don't think there is any reset; you can pull the plug. After any jam or
other yellow light condition, you typically have to open and close the
toner cover and it resets itself. Jams tend to occur in the back; often I
have to hold the pass-thru switch in the up position with a rubber band.

Did you use an installer program for the GV card? Non-Apple ethernet
drivers are typically not separate files or extensions but resources in
the System file. In one case where I could not find the installer disk, I
was able to copy a driver resource from one System file to another using
ResEdit, but it's a hairy process (this was a desktop machine).

That message appears when there is no cable, nothing active on the other
end of the cable, or no hardware card matching the selected ethernet
driver. When all else fails, be sure to trash AppleTalk preferences and
zap the PRAM.

You've got a bad version of StuffIt Expander. IIRC, there is a whole
version of Expander that is broken on 68K macs, not just a random
corruption. The symptom is files expand just fine on a PowerMac but wrong
on 68K. When it happened to me I think I went a half step back (-.5) on
the StuffIt Expander program and that fixed it. *$%#@ Aladdin!

Color StyleWriter 2200: My experience is they work great when plugged in,
but none of the battery adapters I've seen would take a charge. The small
black and color ink tanks can be replaced independently. You can use
Apple's 2200 driver, or the slightly newer Color StyleWriter 2500 driver.

I've got a couple of Color StyleWriter 2200's in their original boxes,
never been used. Contact me offlist is you want to buy one.

When I didn't use mine for several months, it had strange symptoms, and I
even went so far as to purchase a PRAM battery for it. Before I changed
out the battery I discovered that the PRAM is rechargeable and just
needed a fresh charge. Now I make sure to use and charge the 190cs every
month, and no more problems (except for the flaky charger connector...)

I encountered a password-protected 190 about a year ago. The nice thing
was, the password dialog had a Cancel button.

So I booted from a floppy, cancelled the password, and proceeded to a
disk formatting utility. I *think* I used Apple's drive setup, but it
might have been SilverLining. The utility allowed me to delete the
partition, then create a new, blank partition with no password.

I'm pretty sure Norton was not involved in the one I worked on, so YMMV.

This idea isn't so bad -- it actually works with SCSI drives and
third-party formatters like SilverLining. I've done it by leaving the
ribbon cable attached, starting the formatter, and then connecting power
to the drive. But IDE is different, so the same approach may not work.

how to replace 190cs PRAM

I've obtained a replacement PRAM battery for my 190cs.
Can anyone point me to a guide for taking it apart, replacing the PRAM,
