No, just hook up one of those trickle charge solar panels and set it in

I have a NuPower PPC upgrade in my 540c running at 166MHz. I've never
opened her up to take a look at it but it is very steady and reliable so
far. I've had this PowerBook for about 4 months running OS 8.1 without
any problems. Google the NuPower PPCs...you'll probably find the info
you want.

One other thoughtwhich version of DiskCopy are you using? It may be
that you need an older version than the one you currently use.

It's been almost a year ago that I did it...IIRC I had to download them
in order because you have to have the first one (smi.bin) in order to
do anything with the others. D/L #1-19 each on their own floppy and when
you go to install you have to create a folder on the machine you want to
install to and transfer each disk into that folder and then start from
the #1 smi.bin. I remember it took me quite a long time to figure out
the process with alot of going back and forth but perserverence paid
off. If you seriously need this let me know and I'll try to reconstruct
the process in depth for you.

Thanks for the details and yes, after further inspectionit is the
wrong cable (18"). I was initially just trying to link the two so I
could get a decent browser installed onto the 540c. Fortunately, I found
my Stuffit Deluxe and was finally able to open the downloads taken from
my 7300. As of this morning the 540c is running OS 8.1 using Netscape
4.8 on a 'broadband' cable modem. Thanks for all of your help! Now , I'm
off to find the right cable! I'd like to have all of my options covered!

I haven't a terminator for DB-25. I'm off to eBay again, I guess! I'll

Here's the link to the Manual I was using:

http://manuals.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Manuals/powerbooks/0304451APB520540CGS.PDF

Line 6 & 7 talk about the other SCSI devices and the termination.

I have nothing, other than the keyboard & monitor attached to the 7300
and nothing attached to the 540c.

Any other ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,

To expand on this.Yes, I have the right cable (the dark one) There was no mention
of 'termination' in the manual that I read...I may be blind, though...
I did go through the Powerbook Setup and it is set to SCSI ID#2.
Do I need to disable the Apple CD Player? The manual mentioned disabling any other
SCSI devices...
Thanks,
Fran

file sharing...now what?

2002-11-09 Thread Fran Dollinger
Hi all,

Ok, I have the HDI-30 to DB-25 cable to hook my 540c to my 7300. I went
to the Apple Manual site and read the process to do the Disk Mode setup,
tried it out and got nada. The SCSI symbol that is suppose to come up on
the 540c screen did not appear, but no error came up eitherjust
blank grey screen. Any speculations or extra help appreciated!

Thanks,
Fran

Ah so, ne... I see! Thank you! I will do the search, buy the dang cable
and try that out!

was: file sharing, now: cable adapter

2002-11-04 Thread Fran Dollinger
Ok, so, anyone have a name or config or P/N for this cable that I can
use with my PB540c to hook up a SCSI CDRW?? Also, Craig W. what is SCSI
disk mode? (Oops, ingnorance hanging out everywhere!) What is it? What
does it do? How does one do it? And maybe you have a 'link' to somewhere
that I can read all about it!
Thanks,
Fran

Re: File sharing....

2002-11-03 Thread Fran Dollinger
Back atchya! Hey, do you know what I'd need to hook up an ext. CDRW or
if it's even possible?
I figured I could keep most of my misc. junk off of the HD that way...
Thanks,

Fran

Re: file sharing....

2002-11-03 Thread Fran Dollinger
Yeah, it's just called sharing... in the OS 8.1 menu. Went there did
that and still the HD was a no show in the Chooser. But I think you may
have something about Appletalk and the Printer using the same
port..I'll check that out tomorrow. Also, someone mentioned the
PRAM being bad could cause a problem.
Thanks for the help!!

file sharing....

2002-11-03 Thread Fran Dollinger
Hi,

Just got a great deal on a PB 540c, 1gig, 40mg RAM, PPC upgraded,
running OS 8.1. All the core programs were removed before the auction
(not eBay or online). No CDROM. I haven't been able to get a small
enough browser to put on it...well, I have Internet Valet w/ Mosaic on
it but it would not browse, it would however retrieve mail, go figure.
Anyway, I thought, ok, I'll hook the PB to my G3 upgraded 7300 with a
printer cable (am I wrong here?) and tried out file sharing. I get all
the way to the point of going into the Chooser to 'select the file
server' and nothing is showing in the box.I've gone to the
threemacs.com site and followed all of the directions...please email me
off list with any help, Thanks, Fran
