I've checked the Generate Filter reports in Settings.
Eudora occasionally filters something, but I can never find a report.
I have a Filter Report pop up every time I receive mail that was
filtered. Shows me how many messages got filtered to which mailboxes
(with doble-clickable links to those mailboxes). Messages going to
the trash doesn't seem to generate a report.

The report goes away when I close the window (returns the next time I
check and something's filtered), I don't think they're stored

1400/G3 and Netscape 7 ?

2003-07-12 Thread Tina Holm
Yesterday I installed Netscape 7.02 on my 1400cs/NuPowerG3 running
9.1, but it won't run.

It installed without problems or protest, it fires up with the splash
screen, but then just gives me an empty window, which I assume is the
registration suggestion dialog window, then nothing. If I close the
wondow, Netscape quits.

Any suggestions? Oh, and since I'm considering a downgrade to 8.5.1
(9.1 will not let me turn off VM and I prefer Ram Doubler), does
anyone know if NS 7 will run with that?

TIA

3Com cable for my Global Village card?

2003-05-29 Thread Tina Holm
Any chance this cable will work with my Global Village modem/enet card?
Just found a local dealer and they're even cheaper than the listed price on
this page:
http://www.3complete.com/acatalog/3complete_PC_Card_Cables_87.html

I don't care about the modem part, but very badly need the enet, if that
makes a difference. Can't find the GV card right now, but I think it's a
platinum card, and the adapter seems to be the same.

TIA

Re: Low Level Formatting and PowerBook IDE/ATA hard drives

2003-03-21 Thread Tina Holm
At 8:07 +1100 20/03/03, John Smith wrote:
Lets just move on shall we?

Well, not quite yet. I didn't have the time to follow this thread when
it... hmmm, - escalated. Today I finally read all the messages, and have to
add my personal experiences.

First of all, 9.0.4 and 9.1 will _not_ let me do a low level format on
either my PB 1400/G3 or my Beige G3 Tower.

8.5.1 did let me do it to the 30 gb Samsung IDE drive that was in my Beige
when I bought it second hand 3 years ago in May. The drive was barely 5
months old and had developed bad blocks (according to Doc Norton), and was
crashing all the time during boot if virtual memory was turned on.

I had a vague memory of some warnings about low level formatting of IDE
drives. Went to Samsung's website, and found them recommending low level
formatting if bad blocks occured. Thus, I happily went on. Well actually I
went to bed while the formatting took it's time, - for more than four
hours...

Then it ran for a couple of days, and there were bad blocks again, and it
continued, no sort of formatting would keep the bad blocks from returning.

I had it replaced under warranty. The new drive lasted about 6 months, then
it started chirping so loudly that I didn't trust it anymore (it's actually
still running in my friends Sawtooth), and replaced it with a 30 gb Maxtor,
which lasted about 16 months before it went tick-tock on me. Surprisingly
it had a 3 year warranty, and I had it replaced (by their mistake with a
7200 rpm one :-))

Now I'm on my 4th drive in this Mac, don't say IDE drives don't die...
Don't know about the newer SCSI drives, but the old Conner in my IIfx had
been running for 40.000 hours when I handed it over to some kids. It sounds
like a jet, but it's still running...!

BTW, what's inside the old floppy connected 20 mb Apple drive that I had on
my Mac Plus? Still running both of them too.

Can't turn VM off ???

2002-10-26 Thread Tina Holm
I just installed a fresh 9.1 on my 1400/G3, and wanted to use RamDoubler
instead of Virtual Memory, but the system won't let me turn VM off, gives
me an alert saying that the 1400 doesn't have enough memory to run without
VM, and that I should buy more memory...!

The system takes up 14 mb of the 36 mb installed, I can't se why it
complains that way.

Any ideas about how to get around this stupidity?

TIA
Tina

Yes, you can delete the outdated certificates so they won't bother you

Mac googling can help you out.

I'd actually like to find a way to download them to a print file or
something as a standalone backup.

So, you deleted the addresses from the address book, and they still turn up
in the Message To menu?

I haven't seen something like that ever, but here's a suggestion: Most of
the Eudora files are simple text files, open it with something like BBEdit.
I just tried it, and it's just a simple list. If the old adresses are
there, delete them, save the file, and see if they are gone from the menu.

If not, at least you have a list of the addresses that you'd like to keep.

I did something similar, some time back when one of my mailboxes got too
big for my Q800 to handle it. I opened it with BBEdit, cut it in half and
saved it as to different files. It worked fine, so I reckon it should be
save to fidle around with the nicknames file too. You probably should try
it out of a copy first though.

Good Luck

Can't recall if you've already done this. I just remembered a similar
situation with system 8.1 on a couple of Quads. The solution was to do
something like, selecting the hd in the finder, do a get info, and then
turn on some make this a shared volume option.

I've never had to do this in any other system version, but have had more
than one incident of this with 8.1.

Don't give up, it is definetly possible, I've done it numerous times
between 8.1 and 9.1, albeit on other hardware than yours.

Good luck

In CAD, I really don't know. My father in law uses AutoCAD pro at his work

AutoCAD is Windows only, any suggestions on Mac Cad software?

AutoCad 12 was the last version for Mac. It was for 68k, but there's an
extension or control panel called PowerFPU which will make it run on
PowerMacs. My husband runs it on his 2300c, and it seems to work fine, but
it's not very Mac like, and it's probably a not anything like the recent
Win versions either, I'd guess. Not sure which 68k will run it, but a
friend had it running on an 040 (Q800).
There are other Mac Cad software, like Cadintosh from

I was wondering about this too. Never heard of a Mac virus that could do
this, perhaps it's a new one (or I missed something in my general Mac
education). Unfortunately, when the hd is erased, the virus is gone too,
and it'll be impossible to investigate further, I guess.

Can't be an .exe file, but self executing apps can be made for Macs. There
has been one Mac virus spreading itself like the ones on PCs. Going for
Outlook and Entourage. Didn't do any real damage though, but did send
itself on to everyone in the address book.

Thanks to everyone who replied and/or suggested where to find info.

I've been asking and searching high and low, and I've found only few
answers. Many suggested, like above, Guru and other sources, but actually,
none of them had this info.

Guru has for some models, like the Starmax, and the 8500, Applespec
doesn't, it's not in the service manuals, it's not on Apple's website, not
any of the other Mac or ram specific sites suggested.

Simply just next to nothing about which volts or refresh rates go where.

Or I must be blind...

Thanks again

Ram for 5300

2001-09-11 Thread Tina Holm

Just got a free handfull of dimms, and one of them I assume is a PB ram, -
it's very flat.

It's a Toshiba, 3.3 v, 16 megabit, 2k refresh, 4 meg x4, 32 mb, EDO, 60 ns
(specs according to the chipmunk site).

Will this dimm work in a PB 5300? Will it work in any other Mac PB, like my
1400cs/G3 (NewerTech)?

TIA

Re: Ram for 5300

All the dimms are pulled from Macs, so it should be able to work in some
PB, - unless of course it's not a PB dimm. It's just that it's so flat, and
I can't imagine what else it should go in.

Could you tell me why it won't work in a PB?

TIA
