My problem is the power connector on my 190 the psu is totally shot and i
need to replace it but the cost in the UK is silly so i have an old 150 mb
that is shot (nice big crack) can i take the power connector of this board
and solder it to the 190cs then use the 150 psu to power the 190cs, it does
not have to charge the batterys as my 3400 can do that .

any ideas

Are you sure the connector between the 2 is identical ? If not, dont
try it. It is likely (although I dont know for sure) that the
voltages required between the 2 different models are different.

If you need a replacement, you can probably find a 190 motherboard on
ebay for cheap.

Yup, I use a 5300 charger (and batteries) interchangeably in my 190.

Re: 190 cs

2002-08-12 Thread J. Ryon Lucke

Victoria--

It should be fairly straightforward to transfer the connectors from one mb
to the other. I've done some surgery of this order--you have to be careful,
but it can be done. My tools of choice are a 15-watt grounded iron (for
static electricity safety) from Radio Shack and the finest rosin-core solder
they carry, something in the range of 1.5mm diameter, I think (.032 here in
the US of A).

You will also need some method of desoldering the connectors from the mbs in
question. I would warn against desoldering braid, as it seems to require
high-wattage irons and usually leaves residue, but a solder sucker should
suffice, as will other more primitive methods like melting the solder on
both terminals and pulling _carefully_ until you get the connector free.

If you're not familiar with soldering techniques, you should be able to find
manuals at whatever the UK equivalent of Radio Shack is. Or just rope in a
techie friend of yours--I wouldn't try this if you're at all uncomfortable
with soldering. There's also a fair chance of destroying the board, so be
careful at any rate!

Best wishes,
Jesse

190 cs SCSI disk mode

2002-08-12 Thread J. Ryon Lucke

The internal HD on my 190cs is formatted using Silverlining 6.1, and when I
try to boot it into SCSI disk mode, it shuts down as soon as the HD drivers
load. It's not the disk mode adapter, 'cause it works on a Duo.

Any suggestions? I've already tried resetting the PRAM.

Thanks,
Jesse

Just how is a 17 watt power supply from the 150 supposed to
substitute for the 45 watt power supply of the 190, even if it doesn't have
to charge the battery?

190 cs floppy drive bay

2001-07-17 Thread Dr.O.M.Betz

I also noticed someone mentioning a zip drive that fits into the floppy
drive bay. Neat! what else'll fit in there?
--
Alex Allee [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Something I find especially handy if you want to travel light is the AC/car
adaptor made by VST; you swap it for the floppy drive (that you hopefully
won't need anyway, while you're on the road) and bingo, all you have to
carry besides the 'book are the two cables to plug it either in a wall
outlet or in your car's cigarette lighter to make it work or charge the
battery. No more brick(s) needed. You may want to take a look at their
website. Another option I heard about, but can't talk of any personal
experience with, is a case fitting in the FD bay that accepts a second
battery; sounds good to get longer use away from an AC outlet, but I'm not
sure if this adapter box is able to charge the additional battery, I'm
afraid the contacts just aren't made to support this kind of usage.
