HELP! PB1400s

2004-10-14 Thread Dale Hill
I found another 1400 that I had stashed. Tried it and could get no response other than
a little noise. So, assuming it is not the hard drive, I pulled that 2.G and put it in
the good 1400. The machine recognized it, but said it wasn't a HDD disk. I tried to
initialize it and it didn't happen.

So, I pulled it out and put the known good hard drive in, 1.3, and now it is giving me
the blinking question mark. What is going on here? I have pulled it out and put it
back. Used a kitchen knife, to press down all the pins. No go. BLinking light.

Any ideas

For some reason it doesn't want to start up off the HDD. I'd start it
off a system CD and see if the HDD shows up on the desktop - then at
least you can tell whether something has gone awry with your re-install
of the HDD, or whether somehow the System Folder on the HDD has been
corrupted.

More HELP! PB1400s

2004-10-14 Thread Dale Hill
I have 2 harddrives. One is 2.0 G and the other is 1.3 G. It was obvious, smelling
the other 1400/166 that something had smoked the motherboard. The monitor won't come
on. Funny, thing, the 166 had an intact CD player.

I figured that I would check the 166, 2.0 drive (Bad Decision) in my 1400/133. The
133 has 7.5 on it. I have 7.6 someplace, and haven't found it. So, I booted with an
8.1 CD, and on the 2.6 was visible, but could not be formatted. So, I pulled out the
166 hard drive and put the 1.3. It will boot into 8.1 but the drive is not
recognized. Neither is it recognized in the repair or partition tools. Man, ... do I
regret this, big time, because I was keeping a sleep history on Clairis 5.0. I saved
a copy of the data to a 3.5, ... . Maybe I need to reset the Pram? How do you do that
on a Powrbook 144.

Fir get 'bout it. Probably both hardrives are good. I have mine back on. It was my
fault. YOU GOTTA be carefull when you pull the hard drive out. I wasn't. It took the
greatest tool in the world on computers, the ol' folded-back paper-clip trick. I had
pulled to hard and broken the glue on the right part of the drive plug-in cable. I
have it working and I'm not messing with it.
