Re: USB on a 3400c possible?

2004-09-23 Thread VidaVerde
yes, very simple. We really need a FAQ. . .
install the SW - you'll need tomeviewer or suchlike to steal it from
the 9.1 cd (i think, or wherever)

then buy any usb card
file (with a file) the plastic I'm a non-3400 type card key off one
side so it looks like the edge of your modem card (or any card that
DOES fit) - its about 1mm x 4mm x 2mm that you're removing.

It should fit all the way in now

reboot
put card in (AFTER BOOTING)
there y'are.. . . USB
BUT you haveto ejectthe card before shutting down (or you can't
insert it AFTER booting next time if you see what I mean)

USB on a 3400c possible?

2004-09-22 Thread dmxsoulja3
Hello everyone, I was just wondering how possible it was to use USB with my 3400c? I
want to use my cell phone to get online when im traveling and you need to have a usb
connection for the data cable. Is it possible to get usb on a 3400c? I have os 9.2.2
installed so system software shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks, Josh

Re: USB on a 3400c possible?

2004-09-22 Thread ACFX44501

I was just wondering how possible it was to use USB with
my 3400c?

The 3400c has a Cardbus compliant slot, but the slot itself is keyed
for PCMCIA cards, not for Cardbus cards.

It is possible, although it is quite difficult, to modify the 3400's card
cage to accept Cardbus cards.

Given that a USB card can be had for about $24.95 at Fry's and at other
places, why not just modify the Cardbus card to fit the 3400C?

I use a PPA International Cardbus USB card in my 3500 (the 3400 is
identical with respect to the PC card slot issues) with satisfaction, but
I have not been able to find any Firewire card which works in either my
3500, or my Wallstreet II.

So, yes, it is possible, with the above caveats.

I use a Maxtor 1394 Cardbus adapter card with my Wallstreet... only used it
once so far, but it worked fine...

Absolutely. As has been said, you have to do some minor XActo
knife-style surgery to the shape of the card's end. I don't have the
link to the illustrations handy, but a search of the list archive
should yield about an hour's worth of reading on this topic. One
important point is that you need to wait until after you're all safely
booted up to insert the USB card, else it won't be recognized.
Similarly, you need to drag it to the trash before you shutdown, else
it won't eject (and, of course, it won't be recognized when you start
back up). At that point it's time to resort to the unbent paper
clip...
