PM Truncates Text String

2010-03-19 Thread Giovanni Andreani
I've just added a new mail account that has a quite long domain name. In
the "Mail Accounts" window > Receiving tab > Incoming mail server field
I've inserted the "pop3." prefix followed by a 34 character string.
After completing the settings I discovered that PM won't receive any
incoming messages because, in some way, it had truncated the last seven
characters of the incoming mail string. It actually cut off the
characters that exceeded the field where they where inserted in, in the
"Mail Accounts" window. Though, this happens after saving the Mail
accounts window. In all the other fields this don't occur even though
these fields are containing a larger number of characters than what they
can actually display.
Any suggestion?

Thank you in advance.

Sharing Same Email in Multiple Contacts

2007-07-07 Thread Giovanni Andreani
Hello,
when adding a new contact in the address book sometimes i deal with two
persons who share the same email address; this happens, for instance,
with two little brothers who's real email is their father's.
Unfortunately PM doesn't let me share the same email address in more than
one contact in the address book.
Is there any way to get around this?

Thank you for the explanation, Rene.
I actually have an "empty" account set as the default one to avoid
sending messages from the wrong account, therefore I can fall in error
just the same if it comes to send to multiple addresses.
Probably I should look onto the script side to solve the problem.

Re: Setting Criteria Before Sending Messages

Thank you Rene, I tried with the filter you recommended, but it sends the
messages just the same.
This is how I set the filter up:

Conditions
If number of recipients To or CC > 1
Receive mode is not BCC

Actions
Display Alert "No BCC Set!"
Move message into folder Folder Name

When all conditions are met, the alert displays correctly, but even if I
don't close the alert window, after a few seconds the message is sent.

Marlyse, this is the strange part about the situation occurring: I quit
PM every evening and empty the trash several times a day by using the
equivalent keyboard shortcut under the menubar, PowerMail, Empty Mail
Trash. When I moved some 40/50 messages to the trash folder it resultes
full of 67,000 messages (!)

This worked fine! The Message DB shrunk from 1.91GB to 47.5 MB and,
better of all, the messages in the trash folder are now visible.
Can anyone explain this phenomenon?

In any case, thank you Marlyse for your help
PM is now working better. Definitively.

DB Message Full With Low # Messages

2005-05-24 Thread Giovanni Andreani

Hello

This is the strange thing happened to me yesterday:

PowerMail advised me that it can't handle a message database bigger than
2GB, so I selected some 40/50 messages stored in a folder since about a
year ago, moved them to trash, and when told PM to delete the trash
folder; an alert window then reported I was going to delete something
like 67.000 messages. I really had something like 2.000 messages
distributed in all folders. Probably, this has something to do with the
fact I can't still see messages in the trash folder. Is it possible that
some kind of invisible files are piled up somewhere in PM? How can the
actual size of my message DB's be 1.91 GB with not more than 2000 visible
messages?

In any case, I'll try to proceed as if the only problem was the DB's size
and would like to ask you:

1. Is the message database increased by the Address Book as well?
2. If compacting the Database, can I still read single messages?
3. What would you prefer between compacting the DB and exporting the messages?

Thank you in advance

PowerMail Spam Filter and SpamSieve

2004-12-15 Thread Giovanni Andreani

Thank you for the SpamSieve tips

I was wondering if SpamSieve works filtering messages before PowerMail does.
For example, let's say I've created a filter where Mr. White's mails are

trained to recognize the same incoming messages as spam is it going to
act before PowerMail's filters and, if so, is there any sense in keeping
these filters active?

Training SpamSieve

2004-12-14 Thread Giovanni Andreani

Thank you all for the advices about legal email lists; I can see, looking
around the web, that the really genuine legal ones are almost inexistent,
as David Gordon suggested.

Meanwhile, I've installed the trial version of SpamSieve but can't find
the scripts for training it. The help doc says:

"To train SpamSieve with spam messages, select one or more of them and
then choose SpamSieve - Train Spam from the Scripts menu.
To train SpamSieve with good messages, select one or more of them and
then choose SpamSieve - Train Good from the Scripts menu."

Am I missing something?

Thank you
Giovanni

This is exactly what I intended David: if you don't sign up that means
you don't want it, but if you do you probably want it

Thank you once more, David. Yes, there are laws about this in Italy, and
laws about tutelage of private information have been considered as model
of paragon by EU parliament, when discussing about privacy tutelage.
Furthermore, I wouldn't be asking for advice if I hadn't any care about
the argument

Thank you Gordon for your help

I know spam works in a negative way. What I would like to understand is
the following: when registering on a commercial site some times one is
asked to agree or not for having his email given to other companies
related to special areas of interest. This happened to me to; I was
asked, after purchasing a book about economy, if I was interested in
receiving commercial information coming from different companies than the
one where I was buying my book from about software related to this
specific area.
So when I asked for information regarding email lists, I intended these
kind of lists, where the email owners gave their permission for sharing
their personal information:

Spammers Addresses, SpamSieve and Legal Email Lists

2004-12-13 Thread Giovanni Andreani

First of all, thanks for the help on the scripts regarding copying body's
content (btw cheshirekat, the script works perfectly now). I've got three
questions to supply to your attention:

First: I'm one of those who filters incoming spam by applying rules. The
problem now is that the phenomenon is increasing in volume and I would
like a software to help me do the job: how efficient is SpamSieve in
doing this?

Second: I've got about 400 email addresses of spammers active in the last
twelve months. Is there any use if I propose to share them with the
members of this community? And is this possible for the moderator of this
list?

Third question: I'm looking to purchase a list of email addresses for
commercial advertisement; can you eventually indicate a serious company
who provide such lists?

Thank you in advantage

First of all, the Answers to Cheshirekat:

>What do you mean by automatically?
Just as a script would do: in a glimpse without no other intervention

messages in only that folder?
Yes, and eventually only the selected messages in that folder

All the selected messages into one new BBEdit document

I've tried the script above, but I can't get Bbedit to open a new window.
I changed the syntax with
tell application "BBEdit Lite 6.1 for OS X"
I've got a trial version of Bbedit which is expired, so it wont open.
Am I doing anything wrong?
Another curious thing: where are PowerMail's Scripts stored?

Thank you all

I Agree that this would solve the problem, but if you had to satisfy a
request like:
if ( A or B or C or D) and (E or F or G or H)
you'd have to generate a good combination of single filters

copying from address book

2004-10-25 Thread Giovanni Andreani

One more to ask

when I drag drop an address from the address book to a text editor's open
window, I get:

Name Surname <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or if the email is stored without a
name and surname, i get.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] not enclosed in the "< >" symbols.

My question is: can I get the email address to be always copied within
the "< >" symbols, even if it's stored in the address book without a name
and surname?

Login Error Message

Hello, it's my first time in this list. I really need help with PowerMail.

PowerMail is launched automatically when my mac starts; I've got
different accounts it controls. Every time it retrieves mail on startup,
I get this message: Login error for "name1" on "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", where:
name1 is the name before the @ in the email address
name2 is the name after the @ in the email address
name3 is the incoming mail server

The message ends with two buttons: the "OK" default blue button and a
"Snooze" button

Can anybody possibly tell me something more about what's happening? And
what happens when I select Snooze?

Thank you
