VM works much better in Panther than in earlier versions IMHO. You are right. I just checked, and vm seems to be dynamic. However, I was unable to bring them back to 1 (default) after 6 stacks. It went down to 3 and doesn't go lower even I left it idle with no app running, and no vm is called according to Activity Monitor. I remember I used Snap-something on Solaris for purging long time ago. Does anyone know such? -- - Hiro [PROTECTED] <[PROTECTED]> <[PROTECTED]>

At least I have had MenuMeters say that I had fewer VM files present than the number of VM files at peak usage, indicating they had been removed automatically by the OS. VM works much better in Panther than in earlier versions IMHO. Anyone know exactly what changes there have been? PM 5.0.1 | OS X 10.3.5 | Powerbook G4/400 | 768 MB RAM | 30 GB HD

Olaf, recently I had a simular situation. It's the vm file for the virtual memory. Some programs don't manage memory well, in my case it was the camera software. Quitting the program solved the problem. I also suspected Powermail having a memory leak, but meanwhile I think I was wrong. The problem is probably that size of the message database plus the size of the address database exceed 2 GB; in this case, quit PM, remove the address database file from the PowerMail folder, relaunch PM to compact the database, then quit and restore the address database file. I will fix this in the final 5.1 release. Jérôme - PowerMail Engineering - "The Foxtrot-based search function really screams! No matter how convoluted the search, Foxtrot returns a result in less than a second (pretty impressive for 13K+ messages, a 60MB message DB, on a 500MHz G4 Laptop)."
