Yes, it's good that it works manually. I was more interested in finding
the cause. I have sent some settings to CTM, so they can look into the
problem.

I made my own Spamscript action filter and it seems to work fine. This
 should never be necessary.

However, I couldn't change the Spam Value slider, so that's possibly
subject to another spam report. I just have to rule out some stuff I did
first, to make sure it actually *is* some kind of bug.

An updater on this problem. I also have had similar problems to what have
been mentioned in this thread earlier, in PM 5.x and with Spamsieve
2.1.4. In my case, the assistant is not creating the second script spam
: actions. So the spam, correctly given a spam value, ends up in my inbox.

Am I alone in this or can anyone else with similar problems report that
this problem exists?
I have several more spamrelated problems, but I have to try and more
sense in what is happening before I report.

deleted the problem filter, spamsieve's performance has been nearly flawless.

Thank you Gunnar, I did also remove the condition related to my real
name quite a while ago. I am now running only on the two criteria not
in adressbook and not in recent, the effect of last one being
inverted AFAIK.
What strikes me is, during all the beta releases and maybe even a while
at the beggining of PM5, it was not. I still wonder wether there is
somewhere a prefs file I didn't rebuild...
Does anyone knows where these filter settings are stored?

solution. It may not apply to all of you...

address, and so roughly half the spam was not being identified. Since I
deleted the problem filter, spamsieve's performance has been nearly flawless.

In what may be a side issue, the spammers who use my real name are
sending spam messages that generally consist of quoted text (Shakespeare,
user manuals, etc.). I don't know if spamsieve would be able to detect
the spamminess in the body of such messages, and I'm sure it's building
up the corpus like gangbusters. At any rate, these messages are being
tagged as spam due to headers or addresses or something else.

I think that is in previous recipients and is not in previous

Jérôme I am sorry, but I *really* have an isue here, the same as
Marlyse. If for instance I reset the Spamsieve conditions by running the
spam setup assistant from the prefs, and ask successively for the
three conditions that lead to the usual setup (not in previous,
etc.), all new spam jumps right in my incoming folder and I can
perfectly see SpamSieve is not activated (it is not even launched if it
doesn't run). I discussed this issue at length in this very list just a
week ago. I reinstalled PM5 entierely, etc. In the end I discovered that
suppressing the incoming conditions (asking for a SpamSieve evaluation
always) did work. Then I reintroduced the filters one at a time, and I
found the faulty one being indeed if sender not in recent that never
triggers.
At present time I can ensure you my settings are
- if sender not in AdBk
AND
- if sender IS in recents
then evaluate spam
and this, works.
If I switch the second condition to is not, SpamSieve is just not
used, and all spam flies through.

As I mentioned, this may be a mistranslation in french (here I see PM
in french)

I also think that you should use all conditions.

Of course.

If you use any condition, all messages will be passed to SpamSieve,
except when the sender in both in your address book AND in your recipient
history AND the message is addressed using your real name. That is
 typically too restrictive.

Try it: with just not in address alone, it will work, with not in
 previous alone, it won't.

Probably because this sender is in your address book, but you have never
sent a message to this address in PM 5 (the previous recipients list
did not exist in PM 4)?

No. In one of my accounts I get 100 spams/day, and for sure senders are
not all in my addressbook.

2004-05-31 Thread Marlyse Comte

Since 2 days I am experiencing the same problem.

The first week or so after the upgrade it all worked fine.

The only changes I've done during the past 2 days (since the problem
begun to occur) was to create some new filters and to adjust some
existing ones. I did not touch the existing spam filters though. Another
thing I noticed is that when using Mark as SPAM it does not set the label
to spam (as it did). Applying the Spam: actions filter after marking as
spam, will correctly label the spam.

Having a similar problem to Gunnar.

I can't see that I have another version of SpamS. running, but the
Stats for SS do not indicate any messages going into Filtered Mail or
changing the SS accuracy listing, but each manually marked Spam
message does go into the Corpus count.

I have an other test installation on a separate machine, with the same
filtering settings as far as I can tell, and it seems to be working OK
with new messages increasing the Filtered Mail count.

 Puzzled.

Re: Spamsieve not working in 5.0?

2004-05-31 Thread Rick Lecoat

I had some initial trouble with Spamsieve under PM5, however it's now
working okay and I have *not* had to set my SPAM: Evaluation filter to
'Always'. It is set to 'Sender is not in address book', as set by the
Spam Filter Assistant.

The problem turned out to be the fact that I didn't notice that there was
a version of SpamSieve in the PM5 folder that I downloaded (makes sense I
guess since the download process is separate from the license purchasing
process). Evidently the system was having difficulty deciding which copy
of SS to send the message to and so the message was falling between two
stools.

Deleting the version of Spam Sieve that was in the PM folder solved the
problem.
Hope this helps;

Rick

Only 1/3 to 1/2 of spam is identified correctly - the rest is going in my

SS, it seems to be adding the messages to the corpus, but it rarely
claims any of them as false positives, and trumpets its performance as
95% or more.

I must be doing something wrong - but what? I've tried all kinds of
variations with the spam filter assistant, and with the SS preferences. TIA
