Set up a dummy table and report and try printing to this printer using
sys(1037) before the print. Print to one tray, then open the .frx file
and have a look in the EXPR memo to see if it has a line referencing the
tray, then try another tray and have a look in here again. If you have
two different lines then these can be written back to the .frx before
doing a print and you could have a control on a screen to select the output.

I wrote an article about this exact scenario long ago.
http://advisor.com/doc/01468

Rushmore will have to examine and use 3 index tags and build 3 bitmaps
and - if my suspicions are right - a 4th to AND the first 3 to do
that.

SEEK will use a single index tag and will not build a bitmap. SEEK
does a much simpler and faster process than LOCATE, and since it's in
a view (with 600+ records?!>!) it will be fast. You may find another
speed boost because you only have to build 1 index, not 3.

Under 50 records, depending on the CPU, there is little difference
between the two commands.

The THIS.nJobID is different. Check speed of using a memvar against a
property. There's a difference, especially if you add access and
assigns to that property. Nothing you do with indexes will speed up
using the property. I NEVER use property references in any rushmore
commands.

2007-08-07 Thread Wolfe, Stephen S YA-02 6 MDSS/SGSI
This is low level stuff for most of you, but I seem to be stuck.

I have a script that I run on a RedHat box that makes some network
changes. I want to call that script during subsequent reboots, to allow
the changes to span reboots.

This seems like a perfect time for a soft link to the script.

So I go to rc3.d, add my S89network --> /home/user/script  link.

Problem is, it doesn't execute. The script requires a 'start' parameter
if called from a shell, but I thought any link starting with 'S' would
pass that to the script when called...yes/no?

If not, how should I be going about calling this script (late in the
startup process)

I looked in dmesg, but all that's in there is some kernel level stuff.

Cron will run a script on bootup if you use the @reboot time
specifier. This can be a lot simpler than monkeying around with
initscripts as long as cron starts at an appropriate time for your
script.

Would using Database Events (in VFP8/9) prevent this from happening,
assuming you utilized the dbcBeforeOpenTable event to prevent access if
a special object/variable/property didn't exist?

RE: Beware - Virus that attacks DBF's

2007-08-07 Thread Dave Crozier
Michael,
Not really, I guess that the virus is simply embedded in an .exe, email or
similar and simply looks for anything with a .DBF file extension which it
would then open as a file and rewrite the crap back to the disk.

Effectively there is nothing that you could do in VFP apart from maybe
keeping the file open to deter exclusive access.

I didn't read the whole thing completely, but this doesn't sound like a
hack against VFP. It's simply a virus that targets a specific type of file.
(hmm... I wonder if it could be traced back to MS - they certainly have a
lot to lose by folks continuing to use DBFs...)

Anyway, a comparison would be a virus that looks for all files with a .doc
extension and replaces part of it with crap. It's not MS Word that has the
vulnerability (for a change). So you wouldn't stop using Word or .doc files.

RE: Beware - Virus that attacks DBF's

2007-08-07 Thread Bill Arnold

I never get a clear picture of how these buggabos get control/launched
on our machines in the first place. If it's an e-mail attachment, AFAIK
Outlook doesn't even let it into the inbox, and if it did, spambeyes
would probably put it into a junk folder which is mass-deleted after a
quick scan - at least that's how I do it. So, where/how is something
like this getting control?

Re: VFP9: Printing: Selecting a Different Paper Tray

2007-08-07 Thread Chet Gardiner
I had to do something like this too.

I ended up having to

Run the report in the IDE to one paper tray. Save off the expr memo
field contents.

Run in the IDE to the other tray. Save off the expr memo field contents
again.

Then when I ran the report I had to open the .frx file - plug tray 1
into the EXPR field, change to that printer in set printer to
Then do it again for the other printer tray.

The deal is just setting printer to is not enough -- the destination
gets screwed up unless the same destination is also in the .frx file too...

I could dig out the code if you really need it -- it's on another computer.

Unusual use of Fox

2007-08-07 Thread Garrett Fitzgerald
I'm kind of embarassed to admit to this, but...

I'm trying to convert a lot of fields in Visual Form Editor (works
with GE's Electronic Medical Record) from the format

[
{CFMT(, "", , "B", " ")}]

to

[fnFormatService(, )]

Unfortunately, VFE doesn't support search-and-replace within the .DLG
file. (I could do it with the generated clinical kit files, but my
changes would be wiped out each time I saved.)

So, I opened up VFP and assigned the following to an fkey:

SET LIBRARY TO HOME()+"regexp.fll" ;
, HOME()+"foxtools.fll"

lcVal = _CLIPTEXT
IF LEFT(lcVal,2) = CHR(13)
lcVal = SUBSTR(lcVal, 2)
ENDIF

lcRegExp = '.*\{CFMT\((OBSNOW\("[^"]+"\)), "", ("[^"]*"),.*'

_cliptext = STRTRAN( ;
reduce( ;
regexp(lcVal, lcRegExp, 1, "fnFormatService\(\1, \2\)") ;
) ;
, [ ")] ;
, [")] ;

I guess it's theoretically possible for an L.A. Longshoreman to work 130
hours a week...but not for long... That's what it would take for one to
make 250K per year...

As for WI teachers -- how far does $43,000 go in WI? They're at 91% of
the nation's average for teacher pay... What a huge salary for just a
lousy 50-60 hours per week! Damn Unions!!!

I see a median house in WI is about $150,000 -- don't think $43K/year
would qualify...

I guess I'd put you down in the knee-jerk anti-union column, eh Whil???

1. Longshoremen don't actually have to work 130
hours, they just have to write it on their timesheet.

2. You're leaving out the outrageous benefits of
being a teacher

a 10 weeks vacation (1/5 of the year)
b. outrageous health insurance benefits
c. lifetime job security
d. getting every phony holiday off

Works out to about $100k a year minimum

Additionally, how do you call yourself a professional
and still belong to a union?

I actually use FireFox 2.0.0.5 and I really like it. I have a few
extensions added that make my life easier :

Add Bookmark Here : adds an option into the bookmarks menu to add the
actual bookmark to the menu you are standing on

All-in-One Sidebar : Sidebar with favorites, history, downloads,
extensions and web page info

Bookmark Duplicate Detector : Warns me when I'm duplicating my
bookmarks, also checks my bookmarks for duplicates and allows me to
correct them.

Download Manager Tweak.

FasterFox : Performance tweak

FEBE : Backs up all my FireFox data (i.e. extensions, themes, bookmarks,
preferences, history, permissions, etc:) to directory in my pen drive,
then I can have all my FireFox browsers set the same way.

FireFox Showcase : button that displays a window with thumbnails of all
the tabs I have open and allows me to go to one, close one etc.

FoxMarks : Bookmark synchronizer. To keep my bookmards synchronized in
all my machines.

Tab Mix Plus : Must Have! lets me tweak the way my tabs act and
appearance, hundreds of settings.

That's it. Anyone would like to share his favorite extensions?

You might try a SELECT statement combining your 600 records with the
view. You write it so that it will return those records that match or
those that don't match or their quantities depending on your needs. That
might speed it up a bit (maybe).

For example :

SELECT MyView.* ;
into cursor CrsrFoundItems ;
from MyView V;
inner join My600records R;
on V.RecType = R.RecType ;
AND V.iKey = R.iKey ;
where V.JobID = this.nJobID
and now you process your hits.

SELECT MyView.* ;
into cursor CrsrFoundItems ;
from MyView V;

The only extension I use in Firefox currently is one of the ones that

Redirecting an exe's Output

2007-08-07 Thread Ricardo Aráoz
Hi,
been learning some Python and got some weird ideas. Problem is I would
like to accomplish some in VFP. So

Is there a way in VFP (preferably 6.0) to run a '.exe' and redirect it's
output to somewhere inside my VFP program?

TIA

Re: [OT] Bloggers consider forming labor union

2007-08-07 Thread Chet Gardiner
For the rational among you who don't believe the RW lies:

The TRUTH about Single-Payer Health Care around the world:

http://www.michaelmoore.com/sicko/checkup/

-

We could have it as soon as the bush crime family has left:

HR 676 - http://www.house.gov/conyers/news_hr676_2.htm

Brief Summary of HR 676

·The United States National Health Insurance Act establishes an
American national health insurance program. The bill would create a
publicly financed, privately delivered health care system that uses the
already existing Medicare program by expanding and improving it to all
U.S. residents, and all residents living in U.S. territories. The goal
of the legislation is to ensure that all Americans will have access,
guaranteed by law, to the highest quality and most cost effective health
care services regardless of their employment, income, or health status.
· With over 45-75 million uninsured Americans, and another 50 million
who are under- insured, the time has come to change our inefficient and
costly fragmented non health care system.

Who is Eligible

· Every person living in or visiting the United States and the U.S.
Territories would receive a United States National Health Insurance Card
and ID number once they enroll at the appropriate location. Social
Security numbers may not be used when assigning ID cards.

Health Care Services Covered

· This program will cover all medically necessary services, including
primary care, in patient care, outpatient care, emergency care,
prescription drugs, durable medical equipment, long term care, mental
health services, dentistry, eye care, chiropractic, and substance abuse
treatment. Patients have their choice of physicians, providers,
hospitals, clinics and practices. No co-pays or deductibles are
permitted under this act.

Conversion To A Non-Profit Health Care System

· Private health insurers shall be prohibited under this act from
selling coverage that duplicates the benefits of the USNHI program.
Exceptions to this rule include coverage for cosmetic surgery, and other
medically unnecessary treatments. Those who are displaced as the result
of the transition to a non- profit health care system are the first to
be hired and retrained under this act.

Cost Containment Provisions/ Reimbursement

· The National USNHI program will set reimbursement rates annually for
physicians, allow for "global budgets" (annual lump sums for operating
expenses) for health care providers; and negotiate prescription drug
prices. The national office will provide an annual lump sum allotment to
each existing Medicare region; each region will administer the program.

· The conversion to a not-for-profit health care system will take place
over a 15 year period. U.S. treasury bonds will be sold to compensate
investor-owned providers for the actual appraised value of converted
facilities used in the delivery of care; payment will not be made for
loss of business profits. Health insurance companies could be
sub-contracted out to handle reimbursements.

Proposed Funding For USNHI Program:

· Maintaining current federal and state funding of existing health care
programs. A modest payroll tax on all employers of 3.3%. A 5% health tax
on the top 5% of income earners. A small tax on stock and bond
transfers. Closing corporate tax loop-holes, repealing the Bush tax cut.

Thank you for not actually using the words 'Michael Moore' and 'TRUTH' in the
same sentence. THAT would have been to much.

What you are missing is the fact that just because you have insurance doen't
mean you get health care. Why do you think many Canadians are paying there own
way to the US to get health care. Like many of the socialistic schemes... they
sound good, but don't work.

All I can say is 'Gag me with a dead smurf."

We thought we had a lot of equity at the start, and we even had a fairly
good cash cushion. But I just haven't been able to make it all work the way
I hoped to.

Our lawyer is having a negotiation meeting with our former general

we are going to have to file a lawsuit, and that's going to rack up dollars
even faster.
