M-Audio C400?
I'm trying to help a friend who is very seriously considerring getting the $300 or so version of ProTools V10 that comes with the MAudio C400 interface. I was told by my friend that this version of ProTools is somewhat watered down apparently. Apparently, you only get 48 tracks max. He said he didn't know if like ProTools S E, if you get no e q and no dsp plug in support. We're hoping that isn't the case. He's also totally blind. He doesn't even have light preception. I think he's got prostetics, but that's totally aside the point, LOL! Basically, he's got a Yamaha keyboard, don't remember the model, but it's part of the DGX portible grand series. I want to say it's the dgx500, but I could be wrong. Then he has a Seagull acoustic-electric guitar and a Fender Mustang amp. He's also got an Eppaphone SG series electric guitar with the two hum bucker pickups. At my suggestion he got the same microphone I use, which I think is the Samsung C7 condinsor microphone. This mike does need phantom power. He's going to be installing to a white mid 2010 stocked with no customization 13 inch macbook running OSX 10.7.3 Lion. So with all of this said and out of the way, seeing he's still a somewhat intermediet level skilled musician, he's not right now looking to make this a full time career. In the long term goal, yes, he wants to do so, but not yet until he gets better at PT. My question is, for a blind person, is the C400 a good choice for an interface? He doesn't want a control surface, and really $300 is about the most in his budget right now. Is there anyone on this list who has made any recordings using the C400 who could send me an mp3 on list to let me hear the sound of it in action? Are there many controls on the board he'll have to learn or menus, etc? He wants to make this purchase in the next week or so but doesn't want to do so until he knows how well it will work. I'm gonna try to get him to join the list, but he told me he gets so many e-mails as is that it's becoming a bit hard for him to manage, even with things being in filters along side of smart mailboxes. If someone can let me know, I'll get back with him and let him know. Actually, it was Christopher Geissler from Sweetwater Sound who suggested this setup. I myself might even look into a C400 myself, if you all think it's worth it for someone just aching to get started. So, let me know you all's opiion of thoughts. Is this a good choice? I know there are other interfaces certainly that would probably do even better, but remember, he's on a very tight budget. Chris.
Re: How to select multiple tracks without a controller.
Hi Sonar, All you half to do is to "Command Click the track with the mouse" while in the "Track List Table" and bang discontiguous tracks will be selected! :) Heres the "Rub"! ;) You half to make sure the "Track List Table" Is resized over to the right about 30% by having some one grab the gray bar at top right of Track List Table. Thats it! No sweat? YMMV Give a call if you want. Re: How to select multiple tracks without a controller.
Hi, Yes I would have to agree to please set aside some hours and do the portion on the edit window as it would really help those of us who are new to pro tools learn it a lot quicker. When you do certain tasks like recording you don't always state what keys are being pressed such as command and space I understand why you don't talk about the voiceover keys but the pro tools keys I think you should mention at least once or just say command space for record a few times to help out the very new to pro tools. Also, How do you record both the tutorials and record into pro tools with out them always getting in the way of each other like in the comping one? Kevin suggested to me to hide all and then unhide the ones needed. That is usually the fastest way to do it. -Original Message- From: ptaccess@googlegroups.com [mailto:ptaccess@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sonar Switcher Sent: Wednesday, March 07, 2012 2:09 PM To: Pro Tools Accessibility Subject: Re: How to select multiple tracks without a controller. question on the digi 003 control surface version for totally blind users
Hi, I was looking around at the guitar center and they had a digi 003 with a control surface unit that I was able to feel and so I had them order one for me to be shipped to my house. My question is after I install the firewire drivers from my pro tools 10 disc which I have already done and buy the converter cable what other software will I need to install as I want to prepair my mac book pro 17 inch for the device when it gets here so I just plug it in and use it? Should it be easy to use all of the analog inputs at once as all I currently have are two microphones and a CD player that is stereo that I plan to attach to it using the line in inputs the quarter inch ones? Re: Mumber pad that works with protools
Your best bet is to get the full sized apple keyboard mate, I think that's what most people on this list use, in fact, it's what I've just been using with Pro Tools with for the last 5 hours LOL. Re: How to select multiple tracks without a controller.
One way to do it is to show only the tracks you are working with. Then, in the track list, when you are using shift, control, P or Semi Colon, only the tracks that are showing will be selected. Hope this helps. Kevin On Mar 7, 2012, at 12:04 PM, Sonar Switcher wrote: > Hello is that really the only way? Hello is that really the only way? With sonar it was so easy to just move down and select any track you want in any order. Is there no way in Pro Tools to shift click or anything like that? If I want to highlight all tracks for editing with command A what section of Pro Tools do I have to be in?
