 Hi Mac,

You mention the Icon but I think you're possibly mistaken. I've seen Icon
surfaces in the $100,000 range. You might be thinking of some other surface.
At any rate, the Artist series is probably the best for Pro Tools in the
$1500 range. From there, you can go up to a C|24 or S3 or S6 but those will
range from $5,000 to $20,000. I suspect you're looking in the lower price
 range.

A 24-inch screen is plenty for use with Pro Tools, especially if it's for
 occasional use.

All modifiers work with surfaces for global commands. So, selecting, soloing,

Ah, totally different from the Avid Icon surface. The Company name is Icon and
I see that the surface is called the iControl.

I didn't see any mention of Pro Tools compatibility specifically but it appears
to have HUI emulation so it'll probably work. I guess it depends upon whether
you want great integration and functionality with Pro Tools only or whether you
need to use it with other dAWs and have some integration with Pro Tools.

Re: Pre eq recording

2015-03-05 Thread Steve Sparrow
Hey martin. as if you insert an eq plug over your track, i’d have thought
that’s as good as using an eq before going in to pt. your sound will not change
until you modify or remove the plugin. The thing is, if you want it to stay
that way, you can always bounce it to a track afterwards, or as poppa said
apply it at any time later to your track. I sometimes do use eq plugins on some
things like acoustic guitars while recording to reduce the bottom end, so it
sounds good in my headphones. . But i do like the ability to play around
afterwards, and i can always hit that by pass button and get back to the
unaffected recording. it just seem to give me unlimited possibilities.
at any rate, you could always go through an external mixer or eq unit and run
that in to p t if you want to eq the signal before recording.

On 6 Mar 2015, at 4:29 am, Poppa Bear heavens4r...@gmail.com wrote:

Hello Martin, I am not sure of your goal. When you bounce the track down to
stereo it will record the EQ insert on the audio. The other way is to select
the audio once you have it recorded and then do a destructive change by
applying the EQ setting in the audio sweet. Why do you need the EQ recorded
going into pro tools? If you record like that and then later find that the EQ
setting was not what you wanted then you are left attempting to fix a damaged
peace of audio. For the most part with the technology we have it is good to
capture clean unaffected audio and then once it is in the box you can use the
plugins to make the proper adjustments. Generally the only exception I know
of is using a little compression going into the box in order to tame some
 peeks now and then.

Selecting multiple non linked tracks - bug or feature

2015-03-05 Thread Martin Sopart
Hello!

In Pro Tools 11.3.1 I'm able to select multiple tracks which are not in
order or linked or what ever the correct word is. :-)

It's possible by pressing voiceover+space on the desired tracks in the
tracklist table.

In fact that I never heard that this is possible for VoiceOver users I want
to let you know.

But maybe it's an old story.

Re: Pre eq recording

2015-03-05 Thread Mac Egbert
Hi,

if I was informed right, you could create several tracks to do this. Track one,
raw audio, only the signal from your mike.
Track 2, gate and EQ. And if you wanna go firther, track 3,
compression and enhancement.
If you route the output of track one, that is your raw audio, to buz 1, and the
input of track 2 is buz one also, you get the right order.
the result of track 2, gets input to buz 2. Track 3 output buz 2.
This is what I saw on a youtube tutorial, on how to make a VoiceOver template
for a broadcast commercial.
if you wanna see this for yourself, search in youtube foor proTools and
Voiceover.
Its within the first 5 results that you will find.

have fun,

mac

Good point. Keep in mind that VoiceOver sometimes sees things that aren't
actually displayed on screen. For example, some items that are hidden within
collapsed areas in certain windows.

Also, of course, having a control surface is where this stuff just isn't an

RE: Pre eq recording

2015-03-05 Thread Poppa Bear
Generally the only exception I know of
is using a little compression going into the box in order to tame some peeks
now and then.

Re: solo safe again

2015-03-05 Thread Slau Halatyn
Good point. Keep in mind that VoiceOver sometimes sees things that aren't
actually displayed on screen. For example, some items that are hidden within
collapsed areas in certain windows.

Also, of course, having a control surface is where this stuff just isn't an
issue.

Here’s the go. i have my cursor tracking on. i am in the mix window, i’ve

hit command and the left mouse button, nothing is happening. I may be moving
the mouse, but i don’t think so. one strange thing is, after hitting vo
command f 5, i then hit vo f 5 and it did not tell me the solo button was
under the mouse. How ever i have not used that key stroke before, so don’t
know if it ever did in yosemetees.
 Any thoughts guys.

Re: Pre eq recording

2015-03-05 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Martin,

Sorry, I'm not sure what you're asking. Usually, but not necessarily always, EQ
is instantiated in the first slot. Could you rephrase the question?

Controlservice and screen question, better ask before buying ;)

2015-03-05 Thread Mac Egbert
Hi,
question.
I am near to buy the proTools software and also a controlService.
My eyes lay on the controlservice of Icon, the pro, witch is expenabel up to 32
tracks or channels.
I am thinking of buying this one.
Are there on this list any tips for do's and dont's when it comes to controlers?
I know Behringer is coming soon with one also, so I maybe will wait until I
can see its features.
And what about the screen for edit and mix windows in ProTools?
Since I will do all the work myself and am as blind as can be smiley, can I
have one 24 inch full Hd screen for an ocasional visitor or enginear, will that
fit there needs?

Slau!

In German Mavericks and Yosemite:

When navigating through the Finders go to menu I already find Library above
Computer.

Pressing option on Computer and then adding controle and space opens the
Computer folder here.

Any ideas?

Re: Pre eq recording

2015-03-05 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Martin,

You can use Audio Suite plug-ins to process the sound. What most people do is
simply leave the EQ plug-in instantiated just like on a mixing console.

 Yesterday I recorded an ukulele.
To get rid of the low picup noise I inserted an eq with a highpass filter in

When bypassing the eq after the take, all the low stuff was there again.

Is there a way to have a pre eq which effects the audio before it's
 recorded?

 Thanks and best! / Martin

Keep in mind that there's a regular Library folder which you can access by
simply opening your hard drive but there's also a hidden Library folder which
can be accessed through the method I detailed. I haven't seen a Library item
under the Go menu for a few years but perhaps it's different for you.
