Is there a particular reason why you are shying
away from Yamaha. As far as accessibility goes, the Yamaha motif xf is very
good because it doesn’t have a touch screen. It does have usb and if you buy
the optional board, it has firewire. It also can be used as an audio
interface.

Hi all,

I need a replacement musical keyboard. It has to be usable by completely blind
players. Price doesn’t matter, it should be portable, have the ability to play
soft synths, speakers are not required, and preferably not in the Yamaha line.
It should have the ability to connect to the line-in device in the studio
through traditional analog out, firewire, thunderbolt, or USB. It also needs to
focus on instrument quality when not connected to the studio rack instead of
arranging styles (similar to a Yamaha workstation). Does anyone have any ideas?

Agreed with the Apogee Ensemble recommendation, and if you act fast its onside
for Black friday/cyber monday direct from Apogee for about $500 less than it
normally goes for.

Also the apple keyboard has unpowered USB ports so if the HD has its own
external power supply it will work. If it doesn’t have power supply and is bus
powered it won’t work plugged into the keyboard.

 Andy,

sweetwater.com is a great place to buy. Depending on the channels I think
the Saffire Pro40 is a good start. It connects using Firewire, has eight
channel inputs, two outputs for speakers, two headphone jacks, and
consists of knobs for level controls and buttons for phamtom powered
 microphones.
I also use an Axium keyboard, which uses a USB to plug into the computer.
As for the guitar hardware someone else will have to answer that.
Sweetwater customer service is remarkable. They've worked with blind
musicians before and if you describe what you need they will most
certainly match you up. Explain that you need the most hands-on, knob and
button oriented hardware and they be delighted to help. I do not have any
bad experience and everything I won, keyboard, control surface,
 microphones etc are from them.

I hope this gives you a start.

Best of luck and do feel free to ask questions. That is why we have this
 list.

Hi Chris,

The Applications Manager isn't yet accessible and there's no workaround, per
se, other than logging into your Avid account on the web and looking to see
what might potentially be a new download like a new version of Pro Tools or a
new driver, etc.

Which interface are you using? Was it recognized in a previous version of Pro
Tools? Did you ever install drivers for it?

Best,

Slau

the interface seems inaccessible with voiceover. I am also having a rather
strange interface problem as well. I’m using protools 12, and it just will not

Re: Pro Tools accessories

2015-11-30 Thread Brian Howerton
Andy,
Good to see you jumping in to pro tools! You should be fine with the USB slots
on the mac book pro. What I do is plug in my pro tools license in to my
keyboard USB port. That should leave the other for your interface. Not sure
if you could use a USB hub for more ports.

Trim plugin question

2015-11-30 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,
Just was wondering if the trim plugin was working better in pro tools 12.3. I
know in previous versions of pro tools, we were unable I believe to move the
volume down in the trim plugin itself. Just was wondering how that works now
in 12.3. Thanks for the info,
Brian

Andy,

sweetwater.com is a great place to buy. Depending on the channels I think the
Saffire Pro40 is a good start. It connects using Firewire, has eight channel
inputs, two outputs for speakers, two headphone jacks, and consists of knobs
for level controls and buttons for phamtom powered microphones.
I also use an Axium keyboard, which uses a USB to plug into the computer. As
for the guitar hardware someone else will have to answer that. Sweetwater
customer service is remarkable. They've worked with blind musicians before and
if you describe what you need they will most certainly match you up. Explain
that you need the most hands-on, knob and button oriented hardware and they be
delighted to help. I do not have any bad experience and everything I won,
keyboard, control surface, microphones etc are from them.

I hope this gives you a start.

Best of luck and do feel free to ask questions. That is why we have this list.

Re: Pro Tools accessories

2015-11-30 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Andy,

Regarding the control surface and interface, I'd recommend the S3 and an Apogee
Ensemble Thunderbolt. If, as you say, price isn't of concern, you'll want to
eventually get the Pro Tools Dock when it comes out early next year to give you
better transport control and scrub wheel functionality.

Best,

Slau

the apogee interfaces I hear are great, but I hear they are expensive as all

Currently, I have the pro 40, and though the buttons are great, as I
understand and the last time I checked, the mix control software is not
accessible. That is why I am looking in to another option like the apogee
interfaces.

 1. Pro Tools 12.3 - On the way.

 2. Control surface - price is not a concern.

 3. Audio input for recording instruments such as vocals, guitar,
 and
keyboard - USB enabled with a direct input method. Price is not a
 concern.

 4. Guitar amp modulator - portable, price is not a concern.

 5. Keyboard - Must be portable, workstation type of playing. Must
 have
the ability to play soft synths/virtual instruments in Pro Tools. Price

 not a concern.

I believe the list above will get me started for now. A note of
 importance,
I am completely blind, and cannot read anything printed on the screen or
device. My current computer is a MACBook Pro mid 2015 with 500GB flash

Re: Pro Tools accessories

2015-11-30 Thread Vaughn Brown
I do not use the mixing software as I use Protools to do the mixing. I
actually do not if the mixing software for Pro40 is accessible. I
think it is, though.
Have you gone into a music shop that carries such hardwares to
physically check them out? That is how I did my research; took
reccomendations from others and then ventured into some music stores
to examine them. Then I made my purchase online.

Currently, I have the pro 40, and though the buttons are great, as I understand
and the last time I checked, the mix control software is not accessible. That
is why I am looking in to another option like the apogee interfaces.

Re: Pro Tools accessories

Andy,

sweetwater.com is a great place to buy. Depending on the channels I
think the Saffire Pro40 is a good start. It connects using Firewire,
has eight channel inputs, two outputs for speakers, two headphone
jacks, and consists of knobs for level controls and buttons for
phamtom powered microphones.
I also use an Axium keyboard, which uses a USB to plug into the
computer. As for the guitar hardware someone else will have to answer
that. Sweetwater customer service is remarkable. They've worked with
blind musicians before and if you describe what you need they will
most certainly match you up. Explain that you need the most hands-on,
knob and button oriented hardware and they be delighted to help. I do
not have any bad experience and everything I won, keyboard, control
surface, microphones etc are from them.

I hope this gives you a start.

Best of luck and do feel free to ask questions. That is why we have this list.

Pro Tools accessories

Hi all,

I am just getting started with Pro Tools. Unfortunately, most of the
hardware left from my previous stint with another DAW brand is sub quality.
I wish to start over with new equipment and hardware, but do not know what
equipment to purchase. I have a list of items with nowhere to find good

Re: Usb interface controller

2015-11-30 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Pavel,

Two things that are strongly recommended for blind users of Pro Tools are an
Apple Pro keyboard and a control surface. Your budget will largely dictate
which control surface you'll end up buying. Another potential issue is whether
you need that surface to work with other DAWs. Currently, for Pro Tools, the
entry level would be the Artist series. Also, if you look around, you can still
find the Avid 003 second hand. You can use other surfaces that use the HUI
protocol but be aware that their implementation with Pro Tools is often clumsy
but certainly better than not having a surface. Again, it all depends on budget
and what kind of compatibility you need with other DAWs, if any. Whatever you
decide, I'd recommend doing as much research as possible. There have been
several small companies over the years who have introduced products that seemed
promising but those companies have ultimately stopped manufacturing and
supporting their products. I know, I bought one of those products years ago and
it became an expensive doorstop. As I recall, you're in Europe so there's the
added aspect of local support and a relatively smaller community of blind
users. Maybe that complicates things just a little, I'm not sure.

I know of nobody who uses the Q-con surface. I think I've seen mention of it on
gearslutz but, since I know better than to read anything on that forum, I
dismiss that as any measure of the Q-con. It seems like it has the key features
that you would need to use it with Pro Tools but I'm not sure about sales and
support, especially in Europe. You'd have to check that out carefully before
diving in and making sure, since I know of no other consistent users, that you
have a decent return policy in case it's not the right solution for you. If you
do go with the Q-con, keep us posted.

best,

Slau

Usb interface controller

Hi,
I am buying Pro tools 12 now. I want to buy some usb audio controller.
Maybe Q-con pro. Is it a good choice? And can be Pro tools used without
controller? I think yes, but it will be more difficult. Or do you know some
better than Q-con pro?
Thanks,
