Re: Beginners guide?

2017-01-25 Thread Preston Davis III

I myself would be completely inadequate in writing such a guide at this
point, calling me a beginner would be kind! I, however loftily, am trying
to diligently compile as much information as I can in the hopes that such a
thing could be possible by me if no one else. Although with the
protoolswithspeech.com site being out there (this slipped completely under
my radar). It makes me wonder if the demand for such a thing even exists,
although what I had in mind was free, so that could offset any lag in
demand from a market segment. I personally have always found it easier to
learn and retain from the written word, but maybe that's just me.

The tutorials available at:

Are very good. They have also produced some YouTube videos that tell you
how to optimise Pro Tools E.G. kill off certain keystrokes on the Mac that

By all means, create such a beginner tutorial and offer it, sell it, etc.

The only other things I know of are:
1. www.protoolswithspeech.com and
2. learn VoiceOver, the Mac OS screenreader, then read the ProTools manual.

That video slow refresh issue should be fixed in Sierra for what its worth.
The cursor tracking only seemed to happen in certain windows so it snot all

Hi Martin,
i literally just updated from Yosemite to El Cap, and the difference is more
than just noticeable. My 2012 MacBookPro feels like a new machine, El Cap seems
to be very responsive.
I can't tell you anything about Sierra, from what Ive been reading though it's
not too reliable yet. However, a new update for it came out yesterday, they're
at 10.12.3, now I think, and maybe the new version improved things.

Re: Choice of os

2017-01-25 Thread Sean A. Cummins
Martin,

Remember, Air has not yet released the fix for the Mini Grand piano
with Sierra. There is also an issue with Apple’s cursor tracking in
Sierra and is particularly frustrating in Pro Tools 12 that is yet to
be resolved. Sierra is not a shipwreck of an OS; just a few bugs that
might frustrate your use in the OS with Pro Tools.

Also, I don’t know your video card, but there were problems with El
Capitan and greatly slowed video refresh rates in Pro Tools.

My suggestion would be for you to keep checking with Avid’s
compatibility list until moving forward with Pro Tools 12 and Sierra.
Old adage, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…
