A very silly question about recording electric guitar into Protools

2018-07-20 Thread Des Delgadillo
All,

I’ve been experimenting with recording my acoustic guitar into ProTools and, I
bet you don’t need me to tell you, but it’s a blast. I haven’t been having as
much luck with my electric guitar, though.

I have an audio interface, but when I plug in my guitar and set the switch to
instrument, I don’t get any sound. So I’m sure it’s a problem on the ProTools
side. So, a few questions:

To record my electric guitar in this fashion, should I create an audio track,
an instrument track, or a midi track? So far, when I try an instrument track, I
get no audio.
I have a few instruments that came as free downloads with PT. Does this apply
to electric guitar, or do I have to use a midi controller to be able to use
these sounds? Does this question make sense?

Anyway, there’s a lot to unpack here, so if anyone cares to mail me off list,
please feel free to do so at the address in my signature line.

My very best,

Desmond Delgadillo

Not sure if Slau is seeing this or anyone with knowledge of PT plugins, but I
would love to connect off-list and learn a bit more about the options available
to me as a very new singer-songwriter just looking to get his feet wet in the
production side of things.

It would be super cool to have a singular resource that compiles reviews and

Thanks. I used to use Garage Band quite a bit, but for some reason the program

Accessible Drumming Plugins?

2018-06-20 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,

I’m a pretty new PT user and I’d like to start slow, but I hear that there are
plugins out there that I can use as drum tracks. Primarily I’ve been recording
some acoustic music but I’d like to be able to plug in an electric guitar as
well.

Can anyone recommend a useable drumming plugin? I also have like 0 experience
installing or configuring plugins beyond the default plugins that come with PT,
so any direction would be super appreciated.

Feel free to email me off-list as I feel I’ll have a bunch of follow-up
questions and would hate to clog up the list with traffic.

Thanks so much.

Controlling Master Fader in Protools

2018-04-05 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,

I guess I just want to know if this is possible? How can I find the master
fader and control it? Right now, I find that when I export things to MP3 they
are much too quiet. I assume the master fader being turned down too low is the
cause.

Any help is super appreciated

Returning to Protools After a few Years and Just Hoping for Help getting my Bearings

2018-01-07 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,

I finally have ProTools 12 up and running on my Mac and I finally have working
inputs. Now I’m hoping for a quick rundown on what would best help me get
re-acquainted. On this list I’ve heard frequent mention of a Dropbox folder
with useful resources. Could I possibly be invited to that? The email address
is pepsiholi...@gmail.com .

I’ve also heard frequent mention of flowTools. Can someone explain what that is
and how it can help?

I’ve already purchased and listened to the Protools with Speech podcast
tutorials. If anyone has any additional recommendations for PT scripts or other
helpful things of that nature, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks a ton.

Air FX Bundle Not Showing Up in PT after Installation

2017-01-22 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi everyone,
Hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction here. I have
installed PT 12 and the Air FX bundle from the Avid website, but when I go to
use the FX in audio suite the plugins I just installed don’t show up. I have
restarted PT.
Is there any way to perform a rescan of plugins?
I would rather not trash my preference lists since I changed a lot of stuff.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Novice User - Track Selection Issue

2014-02-26 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi:

I'm curious as to whether someone else has encountered this issue and how, if
at all, they were able to solve it. When in the track list, I notice that once
a track is selected, I cannot unselect it. So when I need to select and edit a
different track, my consequent edit will be applied to both tracks.

I have tried everything I could think of, including quitting and re-opening my
session to no avail. Is there a shortcut or step I might be missing? Any
direction would be greatly appreciated.

Selecting During Playback in Protools

2013-04-28 Thread des delgadillo
hi, all:
Ever since I've started using Protools I've had an issue selecting during
playback. I've been told the way to do this is to down arrow to mark the start
of selection and up arrow to mark the end, after which i can perform the
desired function. But this doesn't seem to work for me. I'll perform the
down-up arrow commands but nothing will be selected, or at least the next
command won't work as it should. Am I missing something? The selector tool is
checked. Do I have to be interacting with a specific part of the project to do
this properly? Maybe there's another step I'm not privy to.

Thanks very much in advance,
