Whatsapp PTAccess group request

2020-11-06 Thread James Hurley
Hi - apologies if I've repeated this post but I can't find the one I
thought I posted.

I am a long term PT user (onetime Expert Instructor) who has had low
vision/ocular pain problems for a while now. I'm just getting back into it,
and studying accessibility for DAWs as well. Could you please add me to the
PT Access group
Many thanks
James

Hi Martin!

Thanks for your reply mate! Yep. Double tapped for no result but didn’t know
that I could set tapping speed in Flo Tools prefs. I’ll give that a shot.
Thanks dude. Stay safe!

Okay. I’ve followed all the instructions but some things don’t seem to be
working eg double-tapping T for the track menu. No result. I noticed there was
a comment regarding some macros not needing to be enabled. Specifically which
ones?

Also, some tips on settings would be helpful if there are any. Have followed
the tips on the Flo Tools page with no functionality following. Have been in

I've got several vocal tracks across multiple projects on which I have
tracked multiple takes on separate playlists.

However, whenever I try to listen to any of the other playlists in any
of the sessions, it will not change from the most recently-selected
 playlist.

For example, I seem to be stuck on LeadVocal.04. If I use
CTRL+Backslash to create a new blank playlist, that works fine and the
new playlist is created. But I am then unable to navigate back to the
 previous playlists.

Any assistance in resolving this would be a life-saver and greatly
 appreciated.

 Thanks.

Subject: Waves and UAD Plugins

Hi All,

I know few people here are using Waves and UAD, and they also created
presets for them. Having said that, how accessible are they with Voiceover?
Do parameters show up on the plugin window, or do you need to use
control surface and memorize knobs order for each plugin?
Thinking about getting UAD analog classics Plus or Waves ssl.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks,

Hi,

I'm sorry for the repost, but does anyone has suggestion about finding the
controls for elastick audio in PT11?
InPT10, I would open edit window, go to inside the track, and find the
controllers that let me change the audio track to tick base and choose
elastic audio plug-in.
However, I can't find them in PT11. Did they move it somewhere else?
Thanks,

Re: Questions about Clips

2013-11-02 Thread James Lee

Hi Slau,

Again, thanks for the clear explanation.
I guess the best way is to audition each files, import the one I want
onto new track, edit, and move it back to the original track.

I wasn't sure if there was any other easier way to do this.
I have another question which I might know the answer. I just want to
make sure I'm not missing on a better way to do this.
Let's say you want to punch a certain section a few times and select the
best one later, and the players also want to hear the little bit of pre
roll materials that lead into the punch in section. What's the best way
to do this?
If you create a new playlist for all the tracks, I assume the players
won't be able to hear the pre-roll material before the punch in begins.
IF you just punch over the original track, you can hear the pre.
However, you'll just over riding it every time a new pass gets recorded.
Pro Tools probably keeps the old ones in the clip list, but then you
have to swap them around with dragging.
Then, is the best way just duplicating the playlist before recording?
Also, duplicating the playlist doesn't increase the project size, right?
Pro Tools just refers to the original wave files instead of copying them.

Thanks,

Hi James,

1. Use the Import command under the File menu and choose audio. Navigate to the file,
press Enter and then press the Done button. You'll be prompted whether to import to the session or import to
a track. Choose the track radio button.

2. That's exactly the steps for auditioning the various takes (or playlists).
The master playlist is simply the very first playlist that is created when a
track is initially created. There's nothing else that has to be done, it's
simply the first. Yes, you can use the Control-Option-v shortcut but, first,
you'll have to pass through the shortcut because VoiceOver uses it for
adjusting verbosity. Further, once you've pasted it to the master, you can't
hear it in context, that is, with the audio that precedes or follows it. I
suppose one can just listen to those transitions later and fix them as needed.
My personal preference is to actually navigate to the master playlist and
audition the beginnings and endings on the spot.

3. The scenario you're using in your final question is best achieved with
either visually dragging in grid mode or simply cutting and pasting on the
grid. Again, I personally don't use grid mode but I seem to remember somebody
trying it and having some success. Again, I couldn't verify how
easy/difficult/successful/unsuccessful it would be.

This is done visually by dragging the clip from the regions list into a track.
For obvious reasons, this is quite challenging to a VoiceOver user. It used to
be possible to do this relatively easily with the old outSPOKEN screen reader.
You can still attempt this with a track pad but I can't guarantee success. If
you hide all tracks except for the track to which you'd like to drag the clip
and set its display to jumbo or extreme, you can route the mouse pointer to the
clip, click and drag the clip to the center of the track pad and let go. You'll
need to pay attention to whether you have any regions in the track already
because you may inadvertently drop a clip right on top of another. If you
include a modifier before the mouse down, you can get different results like
snapping to the insertion point or activating the spot dialog where you can
specify the location where the clip should go.

The alternative is to import the clip to a new audio track , cut the clip and
paste it into the desired spot on the track you're working on.

I should also point out that, if you're dealing with clips from various takes, it's best to create playlists
for each take so that each take is easily accessible. Using the name of the track as the basic playlist works
best. For example, create a track named Vocal and duplicate it. The resulting track name, and
therefore playlist, becomes Vocal01. As you record onto this track, the filenames will start with
Vocal.01-01, Vocal.01-02, Vocal.01_03, etc. This is all vocal take one. When you're ready for take two,
create a new playlist and the track name will automatically be Vocal.02 and the filenames will all be .02_01,
.02_02, .02_03, etc. In the end, copy the best take into the original playlist named Vocal and
then use bits of whichever take is best for any given line, phrase, word, etc. If you make a selection in the
master Vocal playlist, you can audition the various takes and the transport will just play the
selected area. When you find the take that sounds best, copy, then move to the master playlist and paste.

3. Also, is there a shortcut to nudge a selected clip to a closest grid without
cutting and pasting?

I never use Grid mode so I can't comment. I do use nudge mode to essentially
accomplish the same thing providing I'm moving by bars and beats.

4. Let's say I have clip A on bar 1 and clip B on bar 2, and both are 1 bar
long. I accidentally nudged Clip A to bar 2, so they overlap exactly on the
same spot. Then how can I choose clip A or clip B?

If the two clips are exactly the same length and you've nudged one on top of
another, it's not possible to select the one beneath, at least as far as I can
tell. Now, that may be different in version 11 and I don't know off the top of
my head. I won't be able to check that for another day or so

I'm looking at a few choices, and I'm wondering if someone can help me

Control Universal Pro, Euphonix Artist Mix, and Digidesign Command 8
I'm looking for something less than $1500. Also, It's not critical, but
I'd love to be able to use it on Windows as well since I haven't
entirely given up on Sonar yet. Also hopefully on Logic when Logic
becomes more accessible. I have RME fireface 800, so the audio interface

Would any of them fit my criteria?
Lastly, can you get Protool 9 with Digi 003? It seems like Digi 003
comes with Protool 8 LE.

I can at least switch preset with shortcuts.
Also, Fireface control panel is accessible with Jaws on Windows to

I'm also going to get in touch with RME directly and see if they
might be interested in implementing some short cut or midi control
so I can control the phantom power button and other features, as it
would be useful, and they update their software quite regularly, so
it could be a possibility. It might be useful to try and find out
how many blind engineers etc there are out there using RME stuff,
because I think they might be willing to play ball based on their
previous interaction with customers.

Especially with PT 9 being open, RME stuff is a great and cheap way
to get 0 latency monitoring (well one sample latency) and it will
work great with sonar too for those who want to keep up on both.

So yeah, I'd recommend you get somethingg that will help you take
advantage of the RME total mix features too, because it's a very
cool thing to be able to control and have at your disposal if you
are setting up monitor mixes, using outboard gear or all kinds of
things.

Apologies if you already know all this, and or if you have somehow
gained accessability with the RME total mix software with jaws,
please do tell!

Cheers,
Brian.

Subject: Control Surface, What To Buy?

Hi,

I finally decided to buy a mac to learn Protool. After going
through list archive, it seems like control surface makes a lot
easier for us to use Protool.
I'm looking at a few choices, and I'm wondering if someone can help
me to choose a right equipment. Digi 003, M-Audio ProjectMix I/O,
Mackie Control Universal Pro, Euphonix Artist Mix, and Digidesign
Command 8
I'm looking for something less than $1500. Also, It's not critical,
but I'd love to be able to use it on Windows as well since I
haven't entirely given up on Sonar yet. Also hopefully on Logic
when Logic becomes more accessible. I have RME fireface 800, so the
audio interface combo is not a huge factor.

Would any of them fit my criteria?
Lastly, can you get Protool 9 with Digi 003? It seems like Digi 003
comes with Protool 8 LE.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi Frank,

Thanks so much for the information.
That's good to know that 003 and command 8 don't work on Windows, and
Euphonix Artist Mix and Command 8 don't have jog wheel.

It comes down to Mackie Universal Pro and M-Audio ProjectMix then.
I wonder how solid they are on ProTools. Does anyone have used them on
Protool? At least I heard many problems with M-Audio stuff on Windows,
especially driver issue.

Thanks,

JL

Stay away from the command|8 and the 003 then.

You can get the crossgrade to 9 for $250 or so.

Deciding on a control surface is tough. Try to get your hands on them before
you decide.

Hi Brian,

Like you mentioned, I don't have luck with Total Mix either. However, I
can at least switch preset with shortcuts.
Also, Fireface control panel is accessible with Jaws on Windows to make
some changes like Phantom power, latency, and so on. I wonder if the
settings will stay if you change them on Windows and connect to Mac.

Hi James,

While there are others on the list who will probably be able to make
better recommendations in relation to protools specific questions, I
will say that if you intend on continuing to use sonar, and your RME
fireface, I would make sure whatever you do choose opporates on the
macky control protocol - so you should check about the euphonix, 003
command 8 etc.

I use the RME fireface UFX myself, and I'm not sure how or if you use
their total mix software, but in my experience its totally
inaccessible with jaws, however, you can set up monitor mixes and do
all kinds of routing with the total mix if you have a control surface
with the macky control protocol. I myself just bought one of the cheep
Behringer control surfaces to tie me over and to play around with some
things, but its fairly cheep feeling and I'm not sure how well it
would play with protools 9 under macky emulation. I'm also going to

Hello - Jim Abbott, Syracuse posting

2011-03-04 Thread James Abbott - Syracuse
Hello everyone,

Jim Abbott from Syracuse University posting. I'm a professor here in
the School of Music (audio engineering), and am doing research in
collaboration with the Burton Blatt institute, developing ways to make
pro audio technologies more accessible.

It's called MTAP, Music Technology Access Project. It's a nascent
program, but development is well under way. The idea is to help
recording engineering be a viable professional pursuit regardless of
disability. Frankly I have been amazed to find how little work has
been done in this area.

We have been working with Pro Tools exclusively up to now. But plan to
expand it to other DAW systems (Logic, Cubase, Etc). To date we have
clobbered together a very reliable voice command system and a control
surface system using an iPad.

Anyhow I thought I'd reach out, and join the discussion. Your list is
great and I have already learned a lot looking through the posts.

Best,

Jim
