RE: Remote collaboration
Rocco, Sounds like you're looking for something like SourceConnect from Source Elements. It does exactly what you're describing. As a voice actor, I use it all the time to have studios record what I'm reading remotely, in real time. SourceConnect is either a stand alone app or a plugin. They just released version 3.9. I tend to use this app under Windows. The last time I tried it with a Mac it wasn't accessible, but I've never attempted the plugin version under ProTools and it's been over a year since I tried it with the Mac. I know they're trying to go more toward a web interface, at least for the stand alone version. Do any of you know of a way to collaborate remotely when using pro tools, in real time? Either sending a high-quality audio stream between 2 people, or something within PT itself? I’m thinking similar to team talk but more accessible and easier to use from the Mac side. getting PT to see my C24
Hi, all, I've got a ProTools HD Native system running PT 12.3.1, and my "control surface" is a c24. PT sees my HDIO interface and lets me select that playback engine, but it doesn't see the C24. The c24 says it's offline, so I know it's not being recognized. Network lights show activity on both the mac and c24 sides. There is nothing indicating the control surface is present in the Setup menus of ProTools. Incidentally, this is a new system that has never been connected. This is not a case where the c24 was once there and now isn't. On the c24, Line out 1-8 is going to analog in on the HDIO, and ProTools In on the C24 is going to Analog outs 1-8 on the HDIO. What am I missing here? Looking at the manuals, but figured I'd ask here, too. Thanks, and happiest of holidays to everyone!! RE: getting PT to see my C24
Hey, Slau and all, We got it to work! YES!! Slau, we’d actually gone into exactly where you’d mentioned, setup > peripherals, and enabled the Ethernet port scan, but it didn’t find anything. Turns out we thought the cable we were using to go between the Mac and the c24 was a crossover cable but it wasn’t. We changed how it was connected to the network and it picked the C24 right up. Thanks! See my other message for more detail. Ethernet tab of the Peripherals dialog under the Setup menu. Enable the Ethernet port checkbox and select the C|24 from the pop-up menus. If it doesn't work the first time, reboot the computer and try again. I had an invisible C|24 the first time I ran the v12 beta and it worked after a reboot. Let me know if that works. off topic: financial systems
Hi, all, I haven't transitioned my entire life to the Mac, but I'm watning to know what is everyone using to keep track of their financials? I'm asking this question here because I know some of you are feeding your families and making a living running your own studios, which means you've got to be keeping track of cash flow, etc. You want reports; you've maybe got multiple accounts; a business credit card, employees, whatever. Suffice it to say that it's more involved than using the Numbers app to track a basic checking account and personal credit card on a government issued monthly check. Your thoughts are most appreciated, and to keep list clutter down feel free to reply to me directly at sata...@gmail.com. Thanks, everyone! Why use tools like Twisted Wave?
Hi, Slau, Chuck and others, This is a great question. For me, tools like Twisted Wave keep things simple, and sometimes that's all I need. I do a lot of voiceovers, and when I'm managing a project like an audiobook or long form eLearning, or if I'm dubbing or voicing to time in an already made video, ProTools makes sense. When I'm just tossing out 15 to 30 second auditions in .mp3 to prospective clients, I don't need anything but a single mono track. I don't really have to do any processing on it. I do have to clean up breaths, mouth noises, etc, and when I do that, ProTools default behavior is simpy to remove the audio but keep the silence in the track. Often I want to remove the audio AND the time. That can certainly be done in ProTools, but in simpler tools it just happens with less keystrokes. I am absolutely willing to concede that I have not exhausted all ProTools options and that I am no PT expert. PT is a work in progresss for me. I play with it when I can, which isn't as often as I'd like given my work load. I definitely see its value though, even for small stuff.
