Re: Amplitube 5 in PT
Hi Steve, Man I sure appreciate the info. IK has some good stuff, so it sucks hard that we can’t access it. Their loss I guess… I was also looking at amp hub, so thanks for letting me know that it is useable. I’m guessing guitar rig is also not accessible for VO users? All, I recently downloaded Amplitube 5 with hopes of using it in PT, however, even though it will show up, I cannot access a single parameter or preset. Re: new protools system, some questions
Hi Jed, I would think you would be fine with either option, being that you will be storing your recordings on an X ternal Drive. Heck, I just bought another USB flash drive the other day, and it was 32 gig for only 13 bucks, so I guess I’m one of those folks who is past feeling the need for a large hard drive or SSD. Having said that though, I do have a 1 TB thunderbolt Drive that I use for ProTools sessions. Re: Adjusting levels of sends
Hi Peter, After setting up an auxiliary track and putting the desired effect on it, go to the track which you want to use the effect on, example a vocal. Navigate to The sends kollom and interact with it. Choose the slot by pressing Vito space on the button, example, send selector b. Navigate through the menu until you hear track sub menu. Right arrow to open the sub menu. There you will see the auxiliary track you have created. Press enter on that. This will open up a view with the various controls to do what you are wanting, A few of them are, pre-or post fader, Front pan, as well as send level. Re: Importing midi files to EZ Drummer 1
Man it would sure be a shame to be back in the sonar environment because of something like this. I just wish ProTools made it easy to import midi to a track with EZ Drummer, as sonar did. In regards to what you asked about garage band Ricky, it seems as though I remember someone saying you could use superior drummer or EZ Drummer with some success. As I recall from that person's post in July, you can select the drum pattern you want from the provided library, and copy and paste it into the timeline on garage band. Please take these comments with a grain of salt though, as obviously I have not tried this before. However the person who posted sounded as though they had experience doing this in garage band and logic. I have no skills in garage band, but may consider building some. > On Jan 15, 2017, at 12:12 PM, Phil Muir > wrote: > > Not going to happen as the groove browser in any Toontrack product is > completely inaccessible both on Windows and Mac so don't waste your money on > EZ Drummer 2. My poor attempt at showing how to use elastic audio

After I figured a few things out, I recorded a short tutorial on working with elastic audio. I did this about a year ago, and for some reason, forgot to post it. Working with loops in PT
Anyone have any tips, tricks or tutorials on using loops and ProTools? Maybe I'm an idiot, or maybe it is because I am lazy and have not upgraded lately, but I have had no luck using the workspace window. It seems like importing loops and then copying and pasting to a single track is a lot more work than it should be. However, that is the alternative I most recently used. I guess I have been fortunate in my one year journey in ProTools to only be working with audio wich I or someone has recorded, but I am now finding myself in need of further wisdom on handling loops. Seems this is the one area where sonar kind of still shines. I would just hate to go over to the PC to do this... I'm sure it is my ignorance and someone will have something to offer. Re: my control surface dilemma, a real drag
Putting in a 2nd Drive is no big deal, and fairly inexpensive. Lots of people perform the task themselves, but even if you use a third-party such as simply Mac, it will still only cost you a few hundred dollars. This is assuming you want to go for something like a 256 SSD. Eventually I will do this with my MacBook pro, but for the time being I use a highly rated thunderbolt Drive. I was able to get a good deal on eBay on one which was brand-new, one terabyte for about $200. Still I am going to add an additional SSD, but I don't consider my money to be lost on the thunderbolt Drive anyhow as at that point I will use it simply for storage and backup. Seems like we have a different opinion of the MacBook Pro. For me, having the mobility and power have been great, though I would not want to go with one of the newer ones which are more of a headache to upgrade or change anything out on. By the way, the battery problem you had is pretty common. Folks argue that if you leave it plugged in it don't make a difference and all of that, but definitely not the case. Our I T guy here at the University had the same thing happened to him, and the battery swelled up and started pushing the case apart. Re: Vocal tuning
Basically when you buy from a seller on the auction site, they send you a code which you can enter on the Antares site for downloading your purchase. This is the same protocol if you bought the plug-in from musicians friend, guitar Center, sweet water and so on. It all comes down to the purchase code, or whatever they call it nowadays. > On Mar 8, 2016, at 4:56 PM, Jesse Kragiel wrote: > > Ok, how would it work buying it from somewhere like that? Just in case you did not know, Antares offers a trial of each of the auto tune plug-ins. H plug-in is fully fully authorized for a period of two weeks as I recall. Re: Protools subscription question
Hello, yes, my MacBook Pro only has two USB ports, that is what makes the additional two USB ports only Apple keyboard a blessing. I keep my iLock plugged into the keyboard. As for the subscription, I had good luck purchasing through Sweetwater. The iLock is included in the subscription price. Or at least it was when I purchased from them. Re: Audio selection trouble
Thanks guys. I should have disclosed in my last email that i had checked to make sure wave form was displayed, and the selection tool was selected. I was good on all of that. The problem came down to the fact that insert after playback was checked. How or why i cant say, but it damn sure was. Maybe it was my kids or maybe i hit the wrong keystroke while drunk, but either way that was the provlem... I'm not even sure what insert after playback is used for, but it sure had me by the nuts there lol. Never the less, thanks for trying to help me guys, i'm grateful to you. Audio selection trouble
Folks, in all projects i can't select audio. This just started, and for the life of me i don't know why. Both link timeline and edit and link track to selection are checked under options. The funny thing is if i uncheck link timeline and edit selection, i can select audio, but not if it is checked. This leads to a screwed up mess when trying to paste... elastic audio questions
List, I'm dumb even though i have RTFM... I am overdubbing a few parts for a guy Who suddenly decided he wants his song to be faster. No problem I think, I can just use elastic audio and speed up the track. Except I can't. I am working in Yosemite 10.5, and part 12.2, with three stereo tracks in the session. 1- select all the tracks. 2- make sure I am set to sample base, not tick base. 3- everything is selected from the top to the bottom of the session. 4- enable elastic audio on each track, and coincidently need the polyphonic voice for each track, so I set that up. 5- in the clip section of the menu bar I hit enter on follow tempo, or what ever it says there near the bottom of the menu. Basically follow tempo or follow session tempo. 6- then I get a message which says one or more tracks does not have a valid tempo map. Funny thing is one of the three tracks will change tempo while the others don't. Being that I have recorded all of these tracks, I know nothing is fishy as far as my tracking workflow. I have even tried changing to warp and analyze, to no avail. Anyone have any ideas? I'm sure it is a problem I am creating by missing a step or something. However, I am lost at this point. I watched a few YouTube videos, but you know how that can be. They say click on this, or click on that, and never quite say what this or that is. Re: Nudging selections without a numeric keypad
Very true. I use a Mac book Pro for my daily workflow, and this means I also had to invest in an external keyboard. What I have found is generally you can pick up a nice Apple keyboard with the number pad pretty cheaply on eBay. Or all else, I think they are $40 direct from Apple. A small price to pay for the convenience. Of that I am certain. Re: a reminder about level meter issues
Lol i had the same thing today but didn't know how to fix it. Thanks for the solution! Btw, i'm sure you probably have noticed, in part 12 The meters never have a minus sign in front of them. They will read for example, 13, when in truth they are at -13. The upside is they will say for example, clipped 6 if The meter is being over driven. Probably not a big deal but I have noticed when listening to others use part 11 or 10 that the meter correctly reports a minus sign in front of the number. Would be nice to have that back, not sure if it is Avid related or voiceover related. Re: Auto tune 8 or auto tune efx with BO?
Hi Chris, Thanks for the info. Part of my problem is understanding what extra added flexibility is available in 8.1. I have watched several videos to try to get a better understanding of what is not offered in EF ex, and of course the videos are only made by sided folks, and they put a lot of stress on the lack of ability to do graphic tunings in EF ex. So maybe you can be the guy who will clue me in. What all are you getting in 8.1 that we can use with VO which is not in EFX? I really appreciate the information man. Re: Auto tune 8 or auto tune efx with BO?
Hi Slau, Thanks very much for the feedback. I think I will download a demo of each, and report back to the list my findings. Not to hijack my own thread, but another project I have is to download the collection of 24 free plugins from Melda Production. They also have a vocal tuning plugin as part of that offering. Auto tune 8 or auto tune efx with BO?
Hi all, I have a gig recording vocals for a client. Being that I just got going in PT two months ago, I haven't built up a plethora of AX plugs, and Auto Tune is a must have for some folks. Just wondering if it is worth shelling out the extra cash on 8, or if EFX would offer the same access with VO? It seems that EFX just don't have graphical tuning node, which I would guess we can't use anyhow... And yes I know, I could just doqnload the demos and see for myself, but I had some hope that some of you would be willing to share your experiences... I could always fire up my Windows computer for this session, but I would rather just have those days behind me... Re: Anyone updated to 12.1
I don't know how much my opinion is worth on the subject, as I am somewhat of a new user to ProTools. However, my experience in 12.1 is that the track meters are somewhat on reliable. Also I kept running into an issue where command space would not record. And yes, I do have the spotlight shortcut disabled... Also for some reason the arm status of a track seems to be somewhat shaky when the track is viewed in the mix window. I could be off on my assessments, as I have only been using 12.1 for about a week. However, a studio i frequently work in still has part 12 running and I did not notice these problems when I was over there. Focusrite on Mac
Wondering how any of you feel about focusrite, PT and the Mac? I hear sided people complain about constantly having to access the mix window for their unit each time they start a new session. Also people complain about the companies slowness on updating drivers. In short, people always complain about everything regardless of how cheap or perfect it is. So having said that, anyone care to share experience good or bad before I put my money down? Part 11 or 12?
I have a quick question for you guys. I have searched the list archive and see that accessibility has not been improved in part 12, but no one mentions any bad experiences in part 12. Is it safe to assume that it is okay to proceed with part 12 if one is running Yosemite? Also, do any of you have experience with running and educational license of ProTools? I would qualify for such pricing because of my position at the University, but just wanted to make sure nothing has been hacked off of the educational Version. I know, I know, the Internet says it is a full working version, but the Internet says a lot of things LOL. Hi Scott, According to motu 64-bit is supported. Man it is astounding they keep updating that box, but i'm pretty happy about it. Not to highjack my own thread here, but i'm open to an external hard drive recommendation since you brought it up. :) i have done a lot of reading on the avid forum, but there isn't as much talk about what they think about drives with 12. Motu and general daw question
List, I'm making the plunge into protools, (another convert from sonar and windows). I have available for my use the following Mac book Pro, non-retina display, OS Yosemite, 16 gig of RAM, and perhaps somewhat disappointing, a Intel I seven quad core 2.2 processor. So now that the machine in question has been identified I will move forward with my inquiries of you. 1- do you have any speculation or experience as to how a motu 828 MKII FireWire interface will react with protools 10, voiceover and Yosemite? Yes I already know these are elderly interfaces. However, I have always had good experience with them and their stability. If it does not or will not work, that is another matter entirely... 2- assuming I need to go another route, what would you recommend as far as a FireWire or thunderbolt interface? My parameters are stability, ease of use, and portability. I need something which would at least house 2 preamps, as i travel and hate packing a lot of gear.
