I have not tried in logic yet so unknown. I only mix in pro tools. I probably
should give it a go in logic just to see what happens.

Changing automation mode in plug-ins

2018-12-23 Thread Chad Morrison
Hello all,
I guess I should probably start by explaining what I am trying to do. I have a
song and on the master bus I have the EQ seven band with the preset transistor
radio. I want the EQ engaged for the first 16 bars of a song and then I want
the EQ to be bypassed for the rest of the song.
Here is what I’ve done so far.
VO spaced on the plug in automation enable button
in the text grid view and selected Master bypass and VO spased on the add
button.
VO spaced on OK button.

Now when I navigate to the bypass button it indicates that it is in latch mode
by saying “latch off effect bypass button”. I am able to bypass the EQ by
manually hitting the button while the track is playing. However, when I stop
the track the automation returns it to unbypassed at the point I stopped play
back. Normally when I write automations for buttons are use right mode. The
best example for this is when I use automation to mute or unmute a send. Is
there anyway to change plug in automation to write mode? If so how is this
accomplished. I appreciate your help in advance.

accessible dynamic EQ

2018-11-04 Thread Chad Morrison
hello all,
I’m looking for a dynamic EQ. Does anyone know of a good one that is
accessible with voiceover? I tried the nova from Tokyo dawn records but I
could not get the sliders to move with voiceover. I was looking at the f6 from
waves… I’ve been using waves c4 multi band compressor for a while so was
thinking maybe it would be accessible but don’t want to drop fifty bucks on
something I can’t use. lol
If anyone knows of free dynamic EQs that would be helpful as well.
thanks guys

Re: Setting up a sidechain workflow

2018-09-22 Thread Chad Morrison
here is the way i do this.
1. Place a compresser on the bed track.
2. Set the key input so that it is listening to a bus. (for what ever reason
in my case I am using bus 14 in my podcast template.)
3. set up a send on your vocal track routed to the same bus you have the
compressor on your bed track listening to. In my case it is bus 14.
4. bring the threshold down on the compressor until it starts to effect the
music’s level. set to taste.
5. Adjust the attack and release until the music’s volume is moving up and
down they way you like it.
You may also have to play with the ratio a little.
Anyway, that is how I set mine up.

Flotools Pete meter shortcut not working.

2018-05-13 Thread Chad Morrison
Hello all,
I am not able to get the peak meter shortcut to work. The reduction shortcut is
not working either. I have followed all the instructions to optimize ProTools
for flotools. The only one I can’t figure out is how to set track heights
properly. I have never got the reduction meter shortcut to work but the peak
meter shortcut just stopped working recently. If anybody can help with this
problem I would much appreciate it. Sure it is probably an easy fix. Thank you.

Hello all,
I’m finally able to upgrade my ProTools 11 to the latest version. However, I

hey Siri…. I am currently running version 10.9.5 because I was afraid the

Additionally, can I expect any major changes in the new were version of

protools 11 accessibility with latest os version

2017-03-03 Thread Chad Morrison
hello, I’m in need of advice. I am still running os version 10.9.5 with
protools 11. I have not updated for fear of not bing able to use protools
anymore. However, at this point I am shore I’m in need of the latest security
updates and pages has begun to get mad at me when I try to open some pages
documents. anyway, to my question:
if I update to the latest os version will I experience any difficulties using
ProTools? Additionally, Will I notice any accessibility improvements?
ProTools is the priority Application on my Computer so if need be, I will just
stay where I am and deal with the other difficulties.
Thank you,
chad

I have also found that if one moves to a unselected track and VO, shift m on
said track the track will be selected and all others will be unselected. Of
corse you have to press the escape key in order to leave the menu if you are
not needing to rename, delete etc.

Well stated. The only reason I've ever had to change anything in the control
panel was to turn off real-time monitoring. I prefer the monitoring through
ProTools so I know for sure what is being recorded. In fact. Kevin provided me
with this snapshot. So all I had to do was loaded into the control panel and
everything was done.

Regarding the control panel. Certain things are usable. You can change the
sample rate, you can change the clock source and you can change the monitoring
presets. If there comes a time when I have to change anything I hook it to my
windows computer make the changes save it as a preset and load the preset up in
mac after hooking it back up.

Hi, What is a good audio interface that has at least 4 microphone preamps

and at least 8 quarter inch line in jacks and works with Pro Tools 12
pritty much out of the box where I just install the drivers and start
recording as I plan to get the control surface later unless one exist that

is with the moving controls like my old Digi 003 had as I got the trade in

value for it and need to replace it as soon as possible more then 8 inputs

and outputs and more then 4 microphone preamps would be helpful of course

and either USB firewire 800 or thunderbult would work fine. Support on
windows 10 would be nice but is not really required. Nick Gawronski

change the output to the one I want. so then I tried the following. I stayed
on the first track prehook1’s output did the regular VO space to open the
output menu and navigated to the output I wish to have and once again routed
the mouse curser and tried the option, shift plus click. I think I may have
heard the sliding sound again but I still have no luck in the rest of the

How to get import after bounce to work.

2015-12-17 Thread chad morrison
Hello all,
I am hoping you can help me. I'm working on a massive session and I want to
bounce A series of tracks to a single track to save on system resources. For
example, I have a harmony part in the song which consists of three parts. Each
part of the Harmony has six vocal tracks. I'm wanting to bounce each individual
part two it's own track. Here's the problem. After In select all of the high
harmony tracks I use option, command plus the letter B to bring up the bounce
dialogue. However, I cannot get the import after bounce check box to check. Is
there a step that I am missing? I press Vo space on it and it will not check
at all. In the past I have just bounce them to a wave and manually reimported
them but I thought the bounce after import option was supposed to do that
automatically for me.
Thank you all for your help,
Chad

One kick note off beat.

2015-10-15 Thread chad morrison
Hello all.
I recently recorded drums for a client. All went well. However, because I'm
such an awesome drummer there is one kick that is slightly off beat. Grin I
have used elastic audio to quantize the entire session. However, there is one
kick that remains slightly off beat. For some reason elastic audio refuses to
fix it. Is there anyway to drag the kick into place using elastic audio. I have
seen YouTube videos of sighted people manually manipulating drum notes with the
mouse. Can we do this from the keyboard? The note I need to replace is right
after a breakdown in the song. Otherwise, I would just copy the note to the
clipboard and paste it in the right place with little fear of it being obvious.
However, if I do that now I am afraid that you would be able to hear The bleed
from the rest of the drum mics in contrast with the new Kik placement. Meaning,
if I paste the kick note in the proper place the kick would still be Heard from
the other drum tracks because of the bleed over. I hope this makes sense. If
not I will clarify more.

moving tracks using Voice over

2015-06-16 Thread Chad Morrison
Hello I was wondering if some one would be willing to write out instructions on
how to drag tracks to a new location using voice over?
here is my problem… the vocalist sang the main part of the hook 4 times. than
he sang the same part 4 more times an octave lower. When I imported the
Audio files they imported with the 1st 3 main vocal tracks in order with the 4
octave tracks below them in order. However, for some reason the 4th main vocal
track ended up below the 4 octave tracks. I would like to move the 4th main
vocal track up with the rest of the main hook vocal tracks. I have tried
locating the track in the track list, routing the mouse with VO Command f5 ,
using VO, shift plus command space to lock the mouse arroing to the place in
the track list I would like the track to go and repeating the lock mouse
command. however, When I look at the track list the audio track I was trying
to move is still in the original place. I have tried this with all tracks
showing, just the hook vocal tracks showing and just the track I am wanting to
move showing. still, I can not get the track to move. This leads me to
believe I am doing some thing wrong. I have got this to work in the past but
have been having trouble as of late. Not only with this project but with
others as well. If some one could help me I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks,

Also, ask for a reference, a commercially released track in a similar style
of music to your mix, something the client really likes, so you have an idea
what he has in his head.

Beyond that, i'm not sure what else to suggest, other than also rendering
mixes with the vocals down a bit, in case your client changes their mind. a
mix the client likes, plus one with the vocals up half a dB and one with the
vocals down half a dB is pretty common practice.

Hope that helps some. Often, we have to just agree to disagree and give the
 client what they want.

 Chad,

Another way you can achieve this effect without getting into automation is to
duplicate your vocal track and only have that track contain the words you
wish to send to the delay. You can cut those from the original track and copy
them into the second track. This technique seems more involved but if you
want to avoid the whole automation thing, you can certainly take this
 approach as an alternative.

 Hi Chad,

I'm assuming you have an aux input with the delay plug-in instantiated and
that a send is routed to a bus which is being received by the aux input.

In the automation window, enable Send Mute automation. With a control
surface, the following procedure is simple. You mute the send, set the
track's automation to Write and engage the transport. Without a surface,
you'll need to go to the Track's output window to the sends section and
mute the send and then enable Write mode and engage the transport.

Wherever you want the track to send to the delay, you'll need to click the
Mute button to toggle its state. Again, with a control surface, it's quite
easy and intuitive. If your unmuted sections are particularly short and
you find it tough to perform the button presses in quick succession, you
can use a slightly different method for the mute automation. Start with
muting and engaging the transport in write mode. Select the word or words
you wish to unmute to the delay, make sure you're still in Write mode,
unmute the send and engage the transport. The track will only play for the
duration of the selected word or words. Automation will be written for
that section as unmuted and will revert to the muted state after the
selection. You can repeat this process for each word or section.

By default, automation is set to change to Auto Touch after an automation
pass so you'll have to switch back to Auto Write each time you select the
word or words. Be aware, however, that when you engage the transport,
you'll be writing the current mute state so you need to make sure
everything is correct before engaging the transport. With a surface, it's
fairly easy to just keep the automation in Auto Touch mode and use the
send mute button to unmute and mute on the fly for each section that
 requires the automation.

 Hope that helps,

 Slau

Without a surface,
you'll need to go to the Track's output window to the sends section and mute
the send and then enable Write mode and engage the transport.

Wherever you want the track to send to the delay, you'll need to click the
Mute button to toggle its state. Again, with a control surface, it's quite
easy and intuitive. If your unmuted sections are particularly short and you
find it tough to perform the button presses in quick succession, you can use
a slightly different method for the mute automation. Start with muting and
engaging the transport in write mode. Select the word or words you wish to
unmute to the delay, make sure you're still in Write mode, unmute the send
and engage the transport. The track will only play for the duration of the
selected word or words. Automation will be written for that section as
unmuted and will revert to the muted state after the selection. You can
repeat this process for each word or section.

By default, automation is set to change to Auto Touch after an automation
pass so you'll have to switch back to Auto Write each time you select the
word or words. Be aware, however, that when you engage the transport, you'll
be writing the current mute state so you need to make sure everything is
correct before engaging the transport. With a surface, it's fairly easy to
just keep the automation in Auto Touch mode and use the send mute button to
unmute and mute on the fly for each section that requires the automation.

 Hope that helps,

 Slau

 Hi Chad,

When you select New from the Playlist pop-up menu, you are presented with a
dialog to name the playlist by default. The behavior is that the playlist
will automatically be appended with a dot 01 or dot 02, etc. with each
ascending playlist unless you specifically rename it something else.
Normally, you'll see this dialog automatically. The only case I know of where
the dialog won't pop up is when multiple tracks are selected and the New
option is chosen. In that case, the selected tracks will automatically have a
new name with an incremented number appended. For example, if you have a
group of drum tracks and you select New from the kick track, you won't be
presented with a dialog for the name but the result will be that each
 playlist will now say Kick.01, Snare.01, Tom.01, Overheads.01, etc.

If you don't see the dialog but a new playlist has been created, double-press
your track selection button on a control surface to bring up the track name
dialog and you can rename your track or, within the tracks list, go to the
track in question and press control-Option-Shift-m to rename the track. That
is the same as renaming the playlist since the playlist takes on the track
 name, if that makes sense.

The proper procedure for quantizing drums using elastic audio.

2014-12-09 Thread Chad Morrison

Hello, to all,

I am having trouble quantizing drums using elastic audio.Would some one
be willing to give me step by step instructions on how to complete this
task?I have all my drums added to a group with the tracks selected, I
navigate to the edit view, locate the elastic audio button and set the
plug to rhythmic audio, but I have also tried polyphonic without
success. After wating for the audio to be analyzed, Set the grid to the
proper note increment, I then use the hotkey command plus the number 0.
However, The drums are are moved to some strange place on the grid or
has some interesting artifacts in the audio.

I have also found that when I attempt to nudge the audio in to place
numbad plus and minus only move the cursor and not the audio.Any advice
on this problem would also be appreciated.I have tried looking in the
manual for help, but I was unsuccessful.

I thank you in advance for your help,

chad

minus 2.
There was always a dual license bundle for both Pro Tools 10 when you upgrade
to 11. I believe that's still the case. Check with your retailer to confirm.
You can certainly record in 10 and go between 10 and 11 freely. Some plug-ins
from 10 might not work with 11 but most do since most developers have made the

Re: Plug-in parameters resetting

2014-08-09 Thread chad morrison
I have set the tracks automation two off. I have even turn the automation for
plug-ins off in the automation window. I am still having the problem when the
playback is restarted. Do you have anymore ideas? Thank you for your help so
far.

Do you have automation turned on for the track with the plugin inserted
on it? Is the plugin an audio effect or a soft synth? If it is a synth,
there may be a midi program change on the track that is resetting it.

 Subject: Plug-in parameters resetting

I apologize in advance because I think this has been covered before on this
list. However, when I press play wile in the plug-in window my parameters
keep resetting themselves. Could someone please tell me how to fix this
problem? I did not have this problem until now. I have been running ProTools
11 since February. Thank you in advance.

Re: click track

2014-07-27 Thread chad morrison
Have you created a click track yet? If not, go to the track menu arrow down to
create click track and select it. Then you should hear the click when you
press play. If not, hit the number seven on the number pad.
