A couple of pro tools questions

2015-05-16 Thread trevor
Firstly, I am not a drummer so the only way I can lay a drum track is using
drum loops.
What is the best way to do loops in pro tools?
and, I have copied addictive drums presets and some other presets in to plug in
setting and they are not showing up at all in pro tools.
I’d be grateful for any help please.

Thank you,

Got it.
Hi guys, thought my test drive with 11rack within Sonar on windows world
could be apreciated by guitarist or bass players, well, anyone interested.

In my judge it's a fantastic guitar and bass sound and fx processor.
Yet, it's a great USB audio interface.
The ASIO drivers are amazing. Zero, I mean really zero latency.
Exist a basic 11rack control pannel, where it's easy to adjust buffer,
hertz, bits and clock.
The hardware; it's a 2unit great AVID design, but concerning accessibility?
well, it's suppose to be use also as a stand alone guitar processor,
therefore it's like a amplifyer. knobs all around, straight forward, scroll
wheel to swap presets and a bunch of knobs where parameters cam be adjust.
some button pads that enable or disable several fx, like delay reverb mod,
distortion and so on. Yet, a button pad tap tempo .
No ! it doesnt talk, so the display cant be read by a blind musician,
preset name and preset editting must be investigated if could be possible by
movements, like, one left, two down and edit button , press save and so on.
Very soon I'll gonna test it out within Pro Tools, where I believe that
those unaccessible information and editting can be done.

Anyhow, concerning Sonar DAW; you gonna like this:
11rack gives 3 ports;
1st . Guitar ; records the dry guitar.
2nd . Eleven Rig ; records the sound of the amp, cab, mic and any effects .
3rd . ReAmp ; will aloud to direct the dry guitar to the 11rack and record
once again, with any other preset or modification .

Resuming;
You can create one mono audio track. Select Guitar In as its input.
Also, you can create a stereo audio track. Select Eleven Rig L/R as the
input.
Record enable both tracks and record your part. This will record your
stereo rig and a clean signal that you can reamp, or easily edit later.

Great stuff.
Now Pro Tools comes with 11rack.

Regards,
Rui Vilarinho

Re: Christmas tune

2014-12-21 Thread trevor

Firstly Chris,
I have only heard Oh come all ye faithful and I think the main problem
with this track is that, you are not a rock singer.

I have heard you do other things a lot better.
You don't sound at all as if you are enjoying it, it sounds like your
trying too hard.

Stick to the country music and stay in your comfort zone.
You do have a lot of talent and you shouldn't keep beating yourself up.

OK. you all asked for it. I'm telling you now, this isn't any good though.
Like I say, I can think of at least 100 things in the first verse I did
really badly.

I won't list near all of them here, but for one, I dragged the tempo, my
chords were way way off in a few places, my base guitar pattern line sucked,
my mandolin track was way way too loud, my vocals were way over compressed,
I was extremely flat in places, I strained quite a bit on a lot of the
higher notes, my backing harmoney was way off, not to mention not in sync, I
cut wayyy too much low ends out of my lead vocal while e queueing most
likely, etc.

I'll send you two of them. If you write back and say, eek, yikes! then
yeah, I know, dont' say it, I already know it's not! good! But, alas, as
you said, Christmas is about sharing, so I'll definitely do it. I'm very
very very very very! hesitant to do so, but, I will.

So, two tracks. First: Silver Bells:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16962268/silver-bells.wav

Then, one I think is even worse!... Oh Come all Ye Faithful:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16962268/Chris%20Gilland%20-%20Oh%20Come%20all%20Ye%20Faithful.wav

Hmm ... So, my mac Pro will arrive very soon, but just now came to my mind
the fowloing crazy thinking:
A Mac Pro it's only a cilindric beautiful dark grey grafite color box, a
desktop incredible computer.
No display, no speackers , no nothing! grin .
Concerning the display, I will gonna connect it through HDMI to my LG tv.
First doubt, I hope this will be enough to direct out the sound, to the tv
speackers.
hmm, just now came to my mind that I felt an analog headphones output hole,
therefore I can always ear the thing I suppose!
But... of course, how the hell I'm gonna syncronize my Apple wireless
keyboard first? to control the Mac?
Yet, Voice Over wont start speaching just because he feels that the user is
blind! grin .
in short; how can i sync a wireless keyboard with the Mac, without any
keyboard attached?
Am I wrong or this means that for this first set up I gotta have a USB
keyboard and somebody with good eyes!?
Or, exist any keyboard shortcut that turn on straight away voice over? in
case i find any USB keyboard to start.
Am I missing something?
Well, just sharing my thoughts, this is a new world!
I hope this all make sense!

Trevor,

Use Command-right arrow for stereo or Command-left arrow to go back to mono.
You don't have to click the pop-up menu to do this, just use the shortcut and
the menu item will change. Use Command-up and down arrows to change the track
type.

Hi trevor,
Here are a couple of golden rules regarding Pro Tools:
1. Never update to the latest Software Update before checking to see if there's
any news on incompatibilities with Pro Tools. Upgrading will be a risk
otherwise. Yes, that's inconvenient for daily use computers but Pro Tools is
most often run on a dedicated production machine so software updates can wait.
2. Always save your disk images so you can restore previous versions if
necessary or reinstall. In this case, I'm not sure that installing a previous
version of PT will help. Generally, you want to be on the latest version,
especially in the interest of having the best chance of being compatible with
the latest system version.
3. Not specific to Pro Tools, always have a backup drive. You'll have your
files on the backup and can either restore or simply copy and paste
applications as needed

HTH,

Slau

I thought some of you would be interested in this. Last year, I
mentioned that I'd try to take some of my Pro Tools training and
convert it in to tutorials. when we determined that this would be
difficult to keep comprehensive and understandable, we decided to
develop a set of tutorials for using Pro Tools with VoiceOver on the
Mac.

June 8, 2014.
We are proud to announce the launch of
http://www.protoolswithspeech.com, a site specifically geared to, an
accessible approach to recording, editing, and mixing in Pro Tools
with VoiceOver on the Mac. Offering both paid and free comprehensive
audio tutorials for current and prospective users of the Pro Tools
digital audio workstation, there is sure to be helpful knowledge for
everyone.

Our paid tutorials are broken up into three major categories,
Recording, Editing, and Mixing.
The recording Tutorial is over an hour long and is currently
available for $9.99. This module provides you with a work flow to get
up and recording quickly. You'll be able to create a new session and
add various types of tracks such as: Audio, Master Fader, and Click.
You'll also learn how to use such powerful features as pre and post
roll, as well as Quick Punch, Loop Record, and playlists. You can
read the entire table of contents at:
http://protoolswithspeech.com/recording-table-of-contents/

The Editing tutorial is an interactive audio module with nearly two
and a half hours of instruction and is currently available for $19.99.
After purchasing, you will be provided a link to the accompanying
session so that you can follow along with us and practice editing the
exact session you hear in the tutorial. This module covers concepts
such as, using VoiceOver's hotspot feature to manage information and
changes in Pro Tools, using markers, multiple techniques for selecting
and manipulating audio, comping vocals, as well as, fades, (fade in,
fade out, and cross fades). Read the entire Editing Table of Contents
at:
http://protoolswithspeech.com/editing-table-of-contents/

The Mixing tutorial is a continuation of the editing module. You will
be provided with a second session completely edited, and ready for
mixing. We will cover concepts such as: adjusting faders,
instantiating a plugin, inserting a compressor, inserting an EQ,
setting up time based processing, automation via the keyboard, and
bouncing. Read the entire Mixing Table of Contents at:
http://protoolswithspeech.com/mixing-table-of-contents/

A bundle of all three tutorials is available for $42.99 a savings of
15%! For the first 15 purchasers, take an additional 10% off with
coupon code first15! If you're intrested in the bundle, take 10% off
with coupon code first10!

Also, be sure to check out the content available in the free
tutorials section. We plan to add to these videos a few times a month
with new content. These are much shorter how to tutorials to help you
use various features of Pro Tools. If you have a suggestion of a topic
you would like to see us cover, please use the contact us link on our
site.

Follow us on twitter @Ptwithspeech. One of the first 100 followers
will win a free bundle, and two others will win a tutorial of choice.

Pro TOols 11 is not an installer like previous versions but a .app
file. simply copy it and paste it into the applications alius in that
folder to put into your macs application folder then you can launch
it like you can any other app on your mac.

Not sure what version of PT you are running, but in 10, under events
on the menu bar, you can change the meter by going to time operations
and then change meter. If you are running 11, I believe slau may have
posted a way to accomplish this a few months back.

Your local Avid representative should absolutely have that answer. Further,
any Avid dealer can sell an educational copy to anyone with a school
identification. It's the same version of Pro Tools possibly with an upgrade
limitation or something of that sort. Anyway, your Avid rep or a dealer

Avid has not approved any version of Pro Tools for Mavericks yet. There might
be a specific version that will launch but they've outlined a whole slew of
problems that can potentially occur so they recommend not upgrading yet. The
next version of Pro tools will most likely be Mavericks compatible but that
won't be released for several weeks.

If you've not got this working as of yet, I'd try the following.
In pro tools after opening a project, Go under setup, and IO. Do a
physical mouse click on input tab I do this by pressing control
command option f5, and then clicking with the mouse. Then voice over
to your right until you hear default. VOice over space on this and
then click ok. It switches your IO to default which has worked for me
twice in the past with my scarlet.

The best thing about them ,is that every thing he does he tells you what

They are definitely worth a listen for anyone learning pro tools.

I will persist because I really would like to read it.

Thank you for getting back to me,

Trevor

 Hi Trevor,
 there's only the Kindle version.
Is it a problem? You can read it on all the devices including iPad, Mac and
Pc with a special free software.

 Trevor,

Have a look at the Nook app for the Mac. I understand it works. I haven't
 personally tried that one yet.

 Hi Simone,
It's a shame because it sounds brilliant but sadly I can't read it because
the kindle app isn't accessible for blind mac users.
However, I'm sure there will be a way around this problem.
I will persist because I really would like to read it.

Re: Pro tools and mountain lion

2012-12-03 Thread trevor
Hi Mike,
I'm a total beginner and I haven't got that far yet.
I only know how to set it up, record and play back.
I still have a lot of reading to do yet.

its not a result of this but, I am having problems.
Firstly, I discovered that I could no longer use the function key and F11
and F12 to alter the volume.
Then, I connected a USB keyboard and disabled the wireless one but, now for
some reason, my computer will not let me connect it again.
and lastly, I got a message saying that version of protools was not
compatible with mountain lion and it put it in a folder called unconpatible.
I hadn't updated it to 10.32 but, maybe that is all I have to do.
I would be grateful for any advice.

Re: A couple of questions from a beginner

2012-11-07 Thread trevor scott
Thanks for writing back Gord,
Yes, I create the track and then do command equals for the mix and, I have
discovered that the piano I get is the piano in protools but, that is the only
instrument I get.
I have selected the others but get nothing from them.

I am going to read all the documents but I was just very keen to get the basics
sorted like creating a track and selecting instrument and recording.

Thanks again for your help

Are you creating an actual instrument track first before inserting? There is

Subject: A couple of questions from a beginner

I have only had protools for a couple of days and I need to ask a couple of
basic questions to set me on the right path.

I have listened to Kevin's excellent podcast and I think I need to listen a
few more times to grasp all the information.
However, I have managed to select a piano and record a bit but, not
 satisfactorily.
I say not satisfactorily because I had to use the command shift space to
record and not the command space or the F12.
When I was installing Protools there was a message about disabling certain
shortcut keys and I stupidly didn't listen.
Could someone very kindly let me know how I disable these keys and how I
 enable the protools shortcuts please?

Also, I installed the virtual instruments but I can't find them when I am
 recording.
I interact with incerts, theninstruments and I find some things I installed
before I got Protools but, I can't find the protools ones.

 I would appreciate any help.

 Thank you,
 Trevor=

How accessible is protools with mountain lion?

2012-10-08 Thread trevor
I have never used protools before but I have heard rightly or wrongly that
protools is not accessible with mountain lion and that, I should get version
eight and go back to leopard.
I'd be very grateful for any help please.

Thanks,
