both, when ever a track is armed. but i think it’s really something in the way the desk is set up. I know exactly where the feedback is coming from. I’ll work around it. Re: input monitoring
Hi Steve, If you're using the computer's built-in audio, therein lies the problem if you're monitoring the computer's output through the console. I'm sure there's probably a better way to route signals in this case but, without knowing all the details, it's impossible to suggest anything that would be feasible. For what it's worth, if your track is selected, simply pressing the m key will toggle mute on and off. Perhaps that'll help in the mean time. Re: input monitoring
hi slau, no the problem is really in the way the desk is set up. There is a computer level nobb. When you turn this up, you have an option to monitor what is being recorded, while listening to what is coming from other sauses, unfortunately the way it’sset up, it also records what ever the computer plays as well. so a feed back lupe is created. normally we do not use protools with this desk. what usually happens is we use sound forge, and studio recorder on a pc. Both of these programs do not allow you to monitor the input at all when recording, so the feedback lupe does not get created. In protools it is reversed, you hear the input level at all times. For the most part this is exactlly what i require. i was really just wondering if the input monitoring could be turned off, so as to set it up to run in the way these other programs run. As you say, i can set it up to only monitor the output of the desk, but the problem is when i replay i can not hear what is coming back until i re enable the computer. This is fine except when i’m recording voice tracks for radio i have to punch in and out very quickly and i do not have enough hands to hit command space and find this computer button at the same time. this is the cause of the feedback lupe. Very difficult to explain clearly in an email. so if this does not make sense i’m sorry, and i’ll leave this thread hear. But no it is not a software issue. i just wondered if it could be set up differently as could be done in sonar. you would just turn input echo off in sonar and no more issue. How ever i am not for a minute bagging protools at all, there are so many things that work so well, and i love the program, it’s only a little thing really which does not effect me when i’m using a proper interface. I can also find a work around on the alan and heath desk, and reroute the output if need be. Re: input monitoring
Steve, I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. If you're getting feedback, it's not a software issue. Either turn down your monitor or use headphones. Why are you getting feedback? Option-k toggles between Auto Input and Input Only monitoring. Thus, if you're not in record mode on a track, pressing Option-k will do nothing. When a track is record enabled, pressing Option-k will toggle between Input Only and Auto Input but you won't know the difference until the transport is engaged. When the transport is engaged, Auto Input will monitor what's being recorded. If you're not recording, the track will playback either what's been recorded on the track or silence if there's nothing on the track. ok from what i can see, option k just let’s me monitor the input at all times. What I need is the opposite. I am wondering if i can turn off the input, so i don’t hear what i am recording till i play it back. I need this in this situation, as i am getting a feedback lupe when using an annalogue desk wit u s b capabilities. Re: input monitoring
Hey john yes, i did give that a go earlier today, but it just seems to allow me to monitor the input at all times.so when the transport is stopped the input still comes through. For some reason i can not seem to record in this mode. not sure why. I guess what i am needing is a way to turn off the input sauce when actually recording. so you don’t hear what is coming in this is not a problem when using a proper interface like presonis or motu, or what ever, but i did encounter a problem when using the alan and heath z 18 today. this is a basic annalogue desk with u s b capabilities. So you can plug your computer in to it and start recording. I have used a pc with this desk and used programs like sound forge , and studio recorder. these programs to my knoledge do not let you hear the input at all, so the problem is not there. In sonar on a pc, you can enable or disable the inputut monitoring, they call it input echo, so this task could be achieved easily, But i can't see a way of doing this in protools short of muting the track when you record. If you are recording a voice track, and want to do a lot of punching in and out, this would be really hard to carry out. It’s a strange one, and as i said before, in my studio at home here, i would not want to work this way, but need to with certain equipment. input monitoring
Hi. i am wondering if there is a way to turn off input monitoring in protools when recording. you can do this in sonar for each track. Under normal conditions i would not want to run this way, but i had protools running through an analogue desk today, and to cut a long story short, i ran my computer through the u s b feed on there desk. it worked fine but i got some feedback. the machine they generally use does not monitor the input when recording. so i’m wondering if it’s possible to do this within protools. or is there another way around this. Short of re routing my signal sauce. Steve -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Pro Tools Accessibility" group.
