That command doesn't exist, and is unlikely to be possible because PT
doesn't have an API that you could send such a request to. When I end
up in a situation with multiple tracks selected and I've lost track of
which, I usually just hide all tracks, show what I need at the time,
and start over. It's not as much of a pain as it sounds, hardest part
here was adopting the habit of only showing what you're working on at
the time.

Re: Novice User - Track Selection Issue

2014-02-27 Thread Slau Halatyn
To retract the insertion cursor from the bottom-most track, use the keyboard
shortcut Control-Option-semicolon. This, however, is also the VoiceOver command
for keyboard lock. So, you must first pass the shortcut through with
Control-Option-tab, then use Control-Option-semicolon to retract the insertion
from the bottom track. From there, you can use Control--semicolon and Control-p
to move the insertion cursor to the desired track for editing.

If all else absolutely fails and, for some reason, you can't get the cursor
retracted, create a new track which whill automatically deselect the other
tracks and the insertion cursor will be in the new track. Move the cursor with
the shortcut keys to the desired track.

BTW, make sure the All group isn't enabled or else the insertion cursor will be
within all tracks no matter what you do.

Re: Track selection

2012-02-21 Thread Slau Halatyn
By default, a track is selected when it's created. It's not that every time you
open a session, all of the tracks are selected. Just so you understand what's
going on. If you've never unselected the originally created tracks, they will
simply remain selected.

One method to deselect a track is by interacting with a track (I find this
seems to work somewhat better in the Mix window), going to the track name,
routing the mouse to the VoiceOver cursor, holding down the Shift key and
clicking once. This should deselect the track. From there on, you can use
control-p or Control-semicolon to move your insertion point to other tracks.
Make sure you have edit insertion following track selection under the Options
menu.

edit selection versus track selection

2011-03-01 Thread Slau Halatyn
Just a little clarification about edit selection and track selection.

Track selections and edit selections are two separate things. A track can be
selected without having any ranges selected within it. Track selection is used
for commands like deleting a track, making it inactive, grouping, etc. These
are things that have nothing to do with editing, per se.

An edit selection is like selecting a range of text within a word processing
document. Although most people now use Insertion Follows Track Selection,
it's still possible to have an insertion or edit selection within a track that
isn't selected. Regardless of whether one links the track selection and
insertion, it's helpful to keep in mind that selections within any given track
and selections of tracks, again, of tracks, are two separate things.

Yeah that was what I already thought.
Good reference for everyone.

Yes, I'm sorry, Link Track and Edit Selection. I'm not in front of Pro
Tools 9 right now. BTW, that message was for folks in general who might not
have gotten the difference between the two types of selections.

 Hi Slau,
That was already pretty clear to me, but you keep writing insertion follows
track selection. Do you perhaps refer to the Link track and edit
selection in the options menu? The different choice of words are a bit
 confusing.

Just a little clarification about edit selection and track selection.

Track selections and edit selections are two separate things. A track can
be selected without having any ranges selected within it. Track selection
is used for commands like deleting a track, making it inactive, grouping,
etc. These are things that have nothing to do with editing, per se.

An edit selection is like selecting a range of text within a word
processing document. Although most people now use Insertion Follows Track
Selection, it's still possible to have an insertion or edit selection
within a track that isn't selected. Regardless of whether one links the
track selection and insertion, it's helpful to keep in mind that selections
within any given track and selections of tracks, again, of tracks, are two
 separate things.

Track selection

2010-06-26 Thread Scott Chesworth
Has anyone figured out decent workflows to select multiple tracks? I
can select one at a time from the tracklist table in either the edit
or mix windows, but the control-click option-click and command-click
tricks I was expecting to be able to perform don't seem to work.

Any advice appreciated...
