Re: [Qgis-developer] Suppress rendering of small features

2013-09-11 Thread Andreas Neumann
Hi,

As I understand, the feature to suppress small/large features would be
optional.

Another interesting thing would be to simplify features when you zoom
out. Maybe simplifying would be quicker than rendering thousands of
unnecessary vertices. Optionally this could also be "outsourced" to the
database - many databases support simplification on the db level. I
don't know if it would really speed up things. One would have to test.

Re: [Qgis-developer] Suppress rendering of small features

2013-09-11 Thread aperi2007

Not always is preferrable to suppress the small features.
Often in our rendering we prefere to substitute a small rendering of
kind polygon with a point rendering at lowest scales.

This is possible using the Rule-Rendering
also is possible to use the rule-rendering to define a rule that in a
scale interval and with a dimension interval the feature is render using
a point rendering and change in a polygon rendering when the scale grow.

I'm just checking that if I code this up it's not going to be

[Qgis-developer] Suppress rendering of small features

2013-09-11 Thread Nyall Dawson
Hi all,

I've been chatting with Nathan about adding a feature to QGIS which would
allow suppression of rendering features smaller than a set threshold for
vector layers. (There's already a similar function in the labelling engine
"Suppress labeling of features smaller than"). This feature would come in
handy for me for several tables which contain a wide range of very small ->
very large features, which cause slow rendering at small scales.

I'm just checking that if I code this up it's not going to be duplicated
effort - Nathan is under the impression that someone else has been talking
about adding something similar. Is there currently any plans for a feature
like this, or should I get started?

Re: [Qgis-developer] Sessions in Brighton

2013-09-11 Thread Matthias Kuhn
Hi all,

I created a schedule based on the preferences from the doodle. [1]

I planned 2 sessions every morning (Fri, Sat and Sun) at 9 and 11 and
some in the afternoons (so our special guest Larry can join)

It should be possible for most people to attend what they preferred.

We are still looking for people who could give a talk at the beginning
of these sessions, so whoever feels like doing so, please raise your
hand!

Feedback is welcome.

See you all soon
Matthias

PS: I did not add the sessions which where not present in the doodle,
the responsible persons for these sessions, please find an appropriate
time and add yourself to the schedule if you want to have the publicity
:)

Basically, the idea is that it you create once the settings somewhere in
your plugin and then it handles type validation, defaut values, etc. The
most interesting part is that you have a SettingDialog class, which
automatically read/write widgets if you name them accordingly to the
settings (it handles several widgets for all the different types of
settings).

This small lib is very time saving for the few plugins I have.

It looks great! Especially with setValueOnWidgetUpdate=True, as I understand,
I'm able to make interactive settings (reading values in the runtime, setting
one widget depending on other widget value), without any need of direct access
to widgets, I mean staying purely within this layer of abstraction. It's
really nice.

Of course, I understand graying out widgets and changing list of combobox'
items still needs direct access.

Maybe an idea would be to translate this to a QgsPluginSetting class
which would then list all the settings to be edited in the main plugin
setting window.

Similarly to Alex, I prefer interactive and aesthetically hand-polished gui ;)
So for my plugins I only can imagine the common settings tree as something
additional, an 'advanced' mode. Anyway, let's talk about it on the HF!

So do I. But you could use this library to create the settings, and it
would automatically add them to the infrastructure. Then, fell free to
set your own UI or not.

See you tomorrow!

Generally, since the name changed officially, we should do a "Quantum" Hunting

I use giffgaff whenever I head to the UK.

You can get a £10 goodybag with 1gb data, or £12 for unlimited

do you have any suggestions for a cheap sim card with data (unlimited
maybe) to use the next 10 UK days?

Finding the train station should be straight forward.

I use giffgaff whenever I head to the UK.

You can get a £10 goodybag with 1gb data, or £12 for unlimited
(http://giffgaff.com/index/offer ).

2013-09-11 Thread Saber Razmjooei
Victor,

The ticket will be fine. You can get out of the station 3 minutes walk to
the hotel and drop your bags and get back inside the station. Just to be
safe...don't put it through the barriers and ask the person to open the gate
for you.

See you tomorrow.

Saber

I was thinking about leaving my stuff in the hotel before going to Falmer.
Does the ticket Gatwick-Falmer allow to stop at Brighton, check in at the
hotel, and then go back to the train for going to Falmer? Or you were
suggesting going straight from the airport to the venue?

Thanks!

Let me know if you all arrive at Brighton station at the same time, so I can
ask a colleague to come and pick you up from there!

When you buy your train ticket from Gatwick Airport, make sure you get
ticket (off-peak same day return: £9.70) to Falmer! Saves you a quid and
time for queuing in Brighton station!

Cheers,

Hi,

I added a topic about Python Plugins Repository (and installer).

We (mainly me and Borys) have some problems to solve about QGIS versioning
scheme and the qgisMaximumVersion metadata tag.

We can extend the discussion about new features or plugin repository
enhancements.

Ideally, somebody who know the details about QGIS versioning scheme should
participate.

I like the idea. Wherever we have somebody who is willing to give a
